13 best ar scope mounts
AR scope mounts are essential accessories for attaching optical sights, such as scopes or red dot sights, to an AR-style rifle. These mounts play a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy and stability of the optic while withstanding the recoil generated by firing the rifle. Here are some key points to know about AR scope mounts:
Types of AR Scope Mounts: There are various types of AR scope mounts available, each designed to fit specific mounting configurations. The most common types include one-piece mounts, two-piece mounts, and quick-detach mounts.
Materials: AR scope mounts are typically constructed from durable materials like aluminum, steel, or alloy. These materials ensure the mounts can withstand the rigors of shooting and maintain their integrity over time.
Mount Height: AR scope mounts come in different heights, such as low, medium, and high. Choosing the right height is important to achieve proper eye relief and sight alignment.
Mounting Styles: AR scope mounts can be either picatinny or weaver style, depending on the type of rail system on your rifle. It's crucial to match the mount style to the rail type for a secure fit.
Cantilever vs. Standard Mounts: Cantilever mounts are designed to extend the optic forward, allowing for better eye relief and more flexible mounting options. Standard mounts position the optic directly above the receiver.
Quick-Detach Mechanisms: Some AR scope mounts feature quick-detach (QD) mechanisms, which allow for rapid removal and reattachment of the optic without losing zero. This is particularly useful for users who need to switch between optics or transport their rifle in a compact case.
Scope Ring Diameter: AR scope mounts accommodate different scope ring diameters, so it's important to choose rings that match the size of your scope tube.
Torque Specifications: Properly torquing the screws or bolts on your scope mount is crucial to ensure a secure fit without damaging the optic or the rifle. Refer to the manufacturer's recommendations for torque settings.
Alignment and Leveling: It's essential to align and level the scope within the mount to ensure accurate shot placement. Tools like scope leveling kits can assist in this process.
Budget vs. Premium Mounts: AR scope mounts are available in a wide price range. While budget-friendly options can work well for many shooters, premium mounts often offer better durability and precision.
Compatibility: Always check the compatibility of your chosen AR scope mount with your specific rifle model and optic to ensure a proper fit.
Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain your scope mount to ensure it remains secure and functional. Loose screws or damaged components can affect accuracy.
In summary, AR scope mounts are essential components for shooters looking to enhance the accuracy and performance of their AR-style rifles by adding optical sights. Choosing the right mount involves considerations of height, style, material, and features to suit your specific shooting needs. Proper installation and maintenance are crucial for reliable and consistent performance in the field or at the range.

User questions & answers
Question: | Work for m1a eye relief |
Answer: | If you want to do a durability test to see how many times you can send a pellet down range before it refuses to hold zero, you can use it on a magnum air rifle. If it is a variable pump, non-magnum (Below 1000 FPS) inert gas, springer (any speed below 700 FPS) or a PCP air gun the answer will be yes. Otherwise if you do expect to use it on a spring piston(springer) or magnum speed rifle of any make the answer will be you can try but your durability will suffer. I have killed 4 scopes over the last 2 years putting them on my pellet rifles(Barksa, Centerpoint, Simmons and Gamo). Now I use magnum airgun rated scopes (Cabela's Brand the best so far and UTG/Leapers). |
Question: | Will this fit on a chiappa m |
Answer: | Yes, I put it on my 30+ year old Marlin model 60 with the included rings and it not only bolted right on, but I was on paper at 50 yards with the first shot group - only about 4" off target with no pre-sighting at all! |
Question: | Would this mount be strong enough for use with a shotgun |
Answer: | The rings that come with this scope will not securely attach to the dovetail on either a Marlin XT-22 or a Marlin 795. There is a lot of the scope creep. For the XT-22 I bought weaver scope bases, for the Marlin 795 I ended up buying a UTG air rifle base with integral rings. The scope is great, the rings that come with it are subpar though. |
Question: | What is the height from top of rail to bottom of ring |
Answer: | I have it mounted on my 10/22 takedown. Fits in the carrying case when mounted, but barely. Great scope for that rifle imo |

Question: | Will this provide enough clearance to mount a 50mm objective NightForce Scope on top of an AR |
Answer: | Definitely aluminum. The fasteners may be made of steel, but the mount itself is aluminum. |
Question: | Will this work on a Ruger precision rifle with the 20 moa base with the vortex viper pst 6-24x50 with the sunshade |
Answer: | NO! The rings are spaced too far apart to be able to fit the Nikon P-223, keep in mind the P-223 is a very short scope, the rings overlap where the scope flares for the lenses by about .5 inch or so. I would suggest getting the Nikon mounts or individual rings. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work on my cva scout v2 .45-70 govt |
Answer: | Go with a mount with no forward cant. This is to push the scope forward and still be able to mount to the receiver. |
Question: | do the screws holding the scope need to be torqued to specific amount |
Answer: | It will work on any firearm regardless of caliber as long as the firearm has a mil spec 1917 picatinny rail or equivalent on top. Since you asked 7.62x54r, I'm going to guess Mosin Nagant. You'll need an adapter to mount this. Also, you might be better served with scope rings instead as they allow for a lower scope placement. This mount was designed for AR style weapons so it rests quite high. |
Question: | Can this be mounted on gamo 6110017154 varmint air rifle .177 cal |
Answer: | This item will fit on a Ruger Precision Rifle, but is designed to push the scope forward for more eye relief. I believe the standard model or the extended version would be a better fit on a bolt action rifle than this SPR mount. |
Question: | what is the ring height from base of the mount to bottom of the ring? Will this fit a 54 mm objective lens scope on a flat top pictanny rail |
Answer: | This is made in the USA at their factory in Tacoma, WA. |

- Design in hollowed-out configuration between the ring and the bottom of the base, to release heavy duty when clamping your scope.
- Built-in tape inside per rings to prevent from marring the scope, also prevent sliding and holding postion accurately.
- The ring is for most scopes which are in 1 inch / 25.4mm scope tube. High profile, 0.71 inch gap from base of mount to bottom of rings. ( Item height: 2 inch)
- With 1 rail clamp screw and 2 scope clamp screw per side, ensure mount any 1 inch scope firmly, just twist off the nut and mount the base on the 21mm rail easily.
User questions & answers
Question: | Can you advise pls approximate height from rail to center of ring |
Answer: | Did this mount work for your scope? I just bought that exact scope for my T/C Ventire 270win and wanted to know if u cleared ur barrel? Thanks |
Question: | Tall enought to clear a scope with a 50mm front lens |
Answer: | The mount is very sturdy. I use it with a Nikon P-300 mounted on a 300BLK rifle. I've never had any problems. Make sure to use locktite on screws. |
Question: | Will this fit my benjamin nitro piston |
Answer: | I have the 1.5" version of this in top of an AR10 (similar mount) and it's too low to clear my 50mm objective crossfire. You want this one. I'll post again after I get it mounted, but I only need another .25" so I'm confident this will resolve my problem. |
Question: | Will these fit a 40mm scope |
Answer: | If you have to ask that question, you don’t deserve that rifle... |

Question: | What mount would this yse for a smith and wesson mp |
Answer: | Nikon .5 moa mounts |
Question: | Is it polyner ir aluminum |
Answer: | It is aluminum |
Question: | Was it made in China |
Answer: | No Philippines, glass is priority |
Question: | How to lock the turrets after doing zero |
Answer: | No need to "lock." To adjust to zero you pull up on the turret, turn to zero and release. The turret snaps back down. Now you can turn the turret to adjust for elevation (or windage) without losing zero. I am constantly adjusting elevation depending on brand and type of ammo, or, of course distance.. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this mount fit the Marlin 336 factory drilled holes |
Answer: | Tough question. Are your levi's really 32? Levis shrink when washed. I wear 32" 5.11. When I snap the waist and measure it's really 36" because of elastic. Amazon is very good about returns if they don't fit. Have fun. |
Question: | Will this fit a remington 760 gamemaster? Or is this a picitinny only mount |
Answer: | A very generous 16 inches. Perfect to fit over any work or military boot |
Question: | Can any post the actual height from the center of the rings to the rail |
Answer: | May be a tad long as you are a "31/32," but I've found that the sizes for these pants are pretty accurate. I'm 6.0 feet tall and take a 32/33 inseam; the 32 fits me fine. |
Question: | Has anyone tried this mount with the Nikon P-223 BDC Carbine scope |
Answer: | I wore mine for the first time yesterday on two separate hikes, the first was 8 miles, outside temp was 80 degrees F, the total elevation gain was 1900+ vertical feet, hiking with about 20 pounds of gear/water in my pack. By the time I reached the summit the crotch was soaked with sweat, seriously it looked like I peed my pants. I'm used to hiking in hot weather and have a variety of hiking pants from lightweight to fleece-lined for different conditions, these were hotter than I anticipated. The second hike was later in the day, at a higher elevation, and with cooler temps, during this hike, the pants finally dried out and were quite comfortable from then on. I think they'd be a perfect early/late season pant. My primary purpose for getting these was the ripstop material and to use them while bushwhacking through dense underbrush. They held up well in the overgrown trail I was on. My solution to the 'breathability' issue will be to add a series of 4 small grommets in the gusseted crotch area to allow for some air circulation, it's an easy fix to an otherwise solid pair of pants. I'll definitely be getting another pair as I like all the pockets, the heavy-duty belt loops, and the durability of the material. |

Answer: | It's 50mm. |
Question: | Is this mount for a 1" tube |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a 1” tube |
Answer: | Yes. Scope has 30mm tube and mount is 30mm. The scope has 4.0 inch eye relief which is plenty if installed on an AR. |
Question: | Why does it say 40mm Mount? Once it was purchased |
Answer: | The person that said the Crossfire II has a 1" tube is not necessarily correct. I bought a Crossfire II 1-4x24 and it is absolutely a 30mm tube. The larger magnification Crossfire IIs may likely have a 1" tube. Check the specs of the scope you have before ordering your mount! |
Question: | So am i getting a 30mm or the 40mm it adds to my cart need a 30mm |
Answer: | If you have a .50bmg you have enough money to get a actual Giselle or American defense lol. But on a serious not do not put a 30 mount on a .50 bmg |
Question: | What is the height of the center of the ring from the rail, will a 50mm lens scope clear the rails alright |
Answer: | Mine lock down. If yours don't they are not adjusted correctly. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How high is the centers of the rings seat above the rail |
Answer: | It is not drilled for mounting. It needs to sit on a Picatinny rail. |
Question: | what rise would I need for a 50mm objective |
Answer: | Picitinny rail only but if you can mount a picitinny rail on the 760 it will work. Although the cheek weld wold be nonexistent. |
Question: | What does the opening between the 2 clamps measure from inside to inside? Want to make sure the apra 210400 scope mount fits my Nikon P-300w/bdc scope |
Answer: | 1.5” |
Question: | The picture shows 3 different scope mounts. Which one is it |
Answer: | I have the Nikon P-223 3x32 BDC Carbine scope and this mount does NOT fit that scope. The distance of the outer edges of the rings are too far apart to fit the short carbine scope. Great mount but I had to return mine. |
