13 best sniper scopes
A sniper scope is an optical sighting device designed to enhance accuracy and precision when shooting at long distances. These scopes are commonly used by marksmen, hunters, and military personnel to engage targets accurately from a distance. Here are some key features and information about sniper scopes:
Magnification: Sniper scopes often have variable magnification settings, allowing the shooter to zoom in on distant targets for better target identification and accuracy. Common magnification ranges for sniper scopes are between 3x and 25x, depending on the intended use.
Objective Lens Diameter: The objective lens is the front lens of the scope, and its diameter determines how much light the scope can gather. Larger objective lenses provide better low-light performance but can make the scope heavier and bulkier.
Reticles: Sniper scopes feature specialized reticles (crosshairs) designed to aid in precise aiming. Common reticle types include Mil-Dot, MOA (Minute of Angle), and BDC (Bullet Drop Compensator). These reticles help snipers account for bullet drop, windage, and other factors.
Turrets and Adjustments: Sniper scopes typically have exposed turrets for making quick and precise adjustments to windage and elevation settings. These turrets allow shooters to compensate for changes in distance and wind conditions.
Parallax Adjustment: Parallax is an optical effect that can cause the reticle to appear to shift when the shooter's eye moves. Sniper scopes often have a parallax adjustment knob that allows the shooter to eliminate parallax for more accurate aiming.
Lens Coatings: High-quality sniper scopes feature multiple coatings on the lenses to reduce glare, enhance light transmission, and provide better image clarity in various lighting conditions.
Tube Diameter: Sniper scopes come in different tube diameters, with 30mm and 34mm being common choices. A larger tube diameter can allow for more precise adjustments and better light transmission.
Eye Relief: Eye relief is the distance between the shooter's eye and the eyepiece. Sniper scopes typically have longer eye relief to protect the shooter from recoil and maintain a comfortable shooting position.
Focal Plane: Sniper scopes can have either a first focal plane (FFP) or a second focal plane (SFP) reticle. In an FFP scope, the reticle's size changes with magnification, while in an SFP scope, the reticle remains a constant size.
Durability: Sniper scopes are built to withstand harsh environmental conditions and recoil forces. They are often waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof to ensure reliability in the field.
Price Range: Sniper scopes vary widely in price, with high-end models costing several thousand dollars. The price depends on factors like brand, magnification, and features.
Maintenance: Proper care and maintenance, such as keeping the lenses clean and protecting the scope from impact, are essential to ensure the longevity and performance of a sniper scope.
Sniper scopes are crucial tools for precision shooting, whether in military, law enforcement, or sporting contexts. Selecting the right scope depends on the shooter's specific needs, budget, and the shooting conditions they expect to encounter.

User questions & answers
Question: | Just installed the scope and found it easy to zero in. The rear flip-up lens cover arrived with a broken spring and does not function. Cannot find any address for the advertised warranty; meaning it is worthless at this stage. Where can I get replacement lens covers |
Answer: | you may not want to hear this but the lens covers is useless anyway. when I mounted my scope on my Benjamin Marauder, the front lens cover notch won't let me turn my AO sight a full 360. like if I wanted to go from 25 yards to 100 yards the notch would stop the turn. just keep your rear cover and put on your sunshade and call it a day... happy hunting |
Question: | Does this scope have a Zero Reset Turret |
Answer: | Yes it does. It comes with an allen wrench, so you can loosen and adjust your elevation and windage knobs back to zero. |
Question: | can my a/r handle this scope |
Answer: | Yes -- not only will it handle the recoil of a .223 AR but also much heavier calibers, -- it is rated to handle the recoil of a .50 BMG ! |
Question: | want to put it on a 308 DPMS any feed back |
Answer: | I have mounted this scope on my dpms ar 10In 308. For the price can.t beat it. Must have is the turret locks....no matter whose you buy.If you shoot competition...and go past 200 yds. Up to about 600 yds. , Get a sightmark for 307.00. If you go out to 1000 yd. Better go with a night force at about 1200.00 to 2000.00. It is all on what will do with the rifle. |

Question: | Will this scope hold up to the recoil from a Diana 350 Magnum |
Answer: | I am assuming you are talking about an air riffle,if you can get mounts for it I would say yes, holds up to my .308 AR10 just fine. |
Question: | Is this scope a first focal plane or second focal plane |
Answer: | It looks like first focal plane |
Question: | Is this scope break barrel friendly |
Answer: | My guess is no. For whatever reason, break barrel rifles have a tendency to ruin lower priced scopes. I finally broke down and bought a scope designed for pellet rifles and it's working great. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with flip up caps or the bikini style caps. And if they're bikini style anyone know what kind/size flip ups fit this |
Answer: | Bikini |
Question: | Anyone buy flip up lens caps for this and if so what size and brand |
Answer: | Have not tried yet to buy flip up covers yet. |
Question: | What cal. Is this suited for |
Answer: | It would not be suitable for air/break barrel guns or rimfire. Any centerfire rifle should be fine. I just mounted it on a .243 Winchester model 70 on a picatinny rail. I'm hoping to sight it in very soon. I'll use it for prairie dogs next spring. With the illuminated reticle (which doesn't get as small as my Cableas Covenant 6-24X50 FFP at lowest zoom) it will help early morning and sunset for deer hunting. |
Question: | what i s the difference between this scope and $1000 plus name brand scope with exact same magnifications and power |
Answer: | Tolerances, lens materials, build quality, and coatings. Also, probably better turrets and more precise adjustments (getting back to tolerances and build quality). You will not have the same image quality with this--especially at longer distances--as you will with many more expensive scopes. I had an Athlon Talos 6-24 power FFP scope that I bought for about the price of this one. Too much distortion once it went past 16-18 power. At the top end it was unusable to my eyes. The image was flat, there was heavy distortion around the edges, and it wouldn't focus to save its life. I then bought an Ares model that listed for $800-1k. Night and day difference. The scope STILL had issues at the highest levels, but no where near the same as the Talos. Light transmission was MUCH better, making it usable longer into the evening and earlier in the morning. Field of view was better, PLUS I had a wider range (the low end was lower). Number and types of coatings impact how you at colors through the lens, impact light available to your eye, and impact image quality. Material in the lens and the precision of the grind (it's not easy to make a good lens) inside distortion, light transmission, and focus. In short you generally get a LOT more scope for the money moving from a $250 scope to a $1000 scope. Ideally, wait for an Athlon Ares or similar or a Vortex Viper in FFP to go on sale. Sometimes you can pick up an $800-1k scope for $350-450. Wishing I'd bought two or three :( Then again, everyone's eyes are different and you might not really notice many differences. But someday, when you're trying to make a precise shot at 500 yards, I suspect that on that moment, you'll wish you had the $1k scope. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the eye relief |
Answer: | Varies between 3-5 inches depending on your focus and distance. Keep in mind this is a second focal plane scope. I do not recommend using supplied rings as they crimp the tube on your scope. |
Question: | Has anyone mounted this on either a .223 or 7mm-08 bolt action rifle? If so how is it or has it held up |
Answer: | I have mine mounted on a .223 Wylde AR platform. |
Question: | Is it good for 600 plus yards |
Answer: | I would use it out to 600. It is second focal plane, which makes precise shots past 600 yards difficult. I really like the scope but wish it was first focal plane and 30 mm tube. |
Question: | Will the scope rings fit a tikka t3x factory dove tail |
Answer: | Yes |
