12 best reticle scopes with tops

Below you can find our editor's choice of the best reticle scopes with tops on the market

A reticle scope with tops, also known as a "top-adjusted reticle scope," is a type of firearm scope designed for precision shooting and hunting. These scopes are equipped with adjustable turrets or "tops" that allow the shooter to make precise adjustments to the reticle's point of aim without using the reticle itself. This design offers several advantages:

  1. Elevation and Windage Adjustments: The tops on the scope's turrets are used to make adjustments for both elevation (vertical movement) and windage (horizontal movement). These adjustments are critical for compensating for bullet drop and wind drift over long distances.

  2. Quick and Precise Zeroing: By turning the tops on the turrets, shooters can quickly and accurately zero their scopes to a specific distance. This ensures that their shots will hit the intended target at that distance.

  3. Tracking and Repeatability: Top-adjusted reticle scopes are known for their tracking and repeatability capabilities.Tracking refers to the scope's ability to maintain accurate adjustments as it is moved, while repeatability ensures that the scope returns to its original settings after adjustments have been made.

  4. Parallax Adjustment: Many top-adjusted reticle scopes also include a parallax adjustment turret. This allows the shooter to eliminate parallax error, ensuring that the reticle and the target are in perfect focus and alignment.

  5. Tactical and Long-Range Shooting: These scopes are commonly used in tactical shooting, competitive shooting, and long-range shooting disciplines where precision and quick adjustments are crucial.

  6. Variety of Reticle Options: Top-adjusted reticle scopes come with various reticle styles, such as mildot, duplex, or BDC (Bullet Drop Compensator), to suit different shooting applications and preferences.

  7. Durability and Construction: These scopes are typically built to be rugged and durable, often with features like waterproof and shockproof construction to withstand the rigors of outdoor shooting.

It's important to note that while top-adjusted reticle scopes offer precise adjustments, they require the shooter to be familiar with the scope's operation and to make accurate calculations for elevation and windage corrections. Proper training and practice are essential to maximize the benefits of such scopes.

User questions & answers

Question: When i bought this it was $299.00. now its $249.00. why
Answer: It came to me in a brand new box. It also had a warranty card.
Question: Do you have a quick release levered mount with the same low profile as the stock Vortex mount you can recommend
Answer: Hi, Yes it comes with a sunshade. What an awesome scope it turned out to be.
Question: Is this a dual color ring
Answer: It ultimately depends on what you're mounting it to, but typically you will need high rings for the 50mm objective on a 1" tube. I put mine on a rimfire with an 11mm to pictinny adaptor rail. That raised it up enough for me to get by with medium rings, but otherwise I'd need high.
Question: When you guys received you spitfire, was the box in a sealed package or just a normal vortex box
Answer: Hi! It all depends on the rifle you own. As you know the lower the scope the better it is. The 50 mm front of the scope has to clear the rifle. I mounted this scope on my Ruger 10-22 with the med ring and it is OK . I also brought the high rings just in case I switch rifle so day. How this answer you looking for

Spitfire 1x Prism Scope (SPR-200)

Built from the ground up specifically to maximize the quick-handling performance of rifles, Vortex’s Spitfire prism scope delivers incredible optical quality and ultra-fast functionality in a lightweight, streamlined package. The generous, parallax-free, sight picture and forgiving eyebox gets shooters on target effortlessly - even in high-stress scenarios.

Dual Ring Tactical (DRT) MOA Reticle

The DRT (Dual Ring Tactical) reticle is designed for rapid shooting at close distances. The dual ring design pulls the eye into instant alignment with the reticle center and target. Etched directly on the prism to assure consistent point-of-aim at all times with selectable red/green illumination of five intensity levels to match specific conditions.

Illumination Control

Illumination is available in both red and green colors. To change between colors, momentarily press and release both Up and Down buttons at the same time. Illumination intensity can be adjusted by either tapping Up or Down buttons, or holding button down to automatically cycle through adjustment range. The Spitfire has twelve levels of brightness, with the last two being ultra-low to allow use with NV equipment.

Reticle Focus

The Spitfire prism scope uses a fast focus eyepiece designed to quickly and easily provide a sharply focused reticle. To adjust the reticle focus:

1. Look through the scope at a blank white wall or up at the sky.

2. Turn the eyepiece focus dial in or out until the reticle image is as crisp as possible.

Mounting the Spitfire

Orient the Spitfire so the adjustment buttons face the shooter.

1. Loosen the base crossbolts and attach the Spitfire to the rail/base, making sure that recoil lugs are solidly seated in the base groove.

2. Check that the mount fully engages the base, press the Spitfire down and forward, then tighten the base crossbolts.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this scope really weight 2.6 pounds
Answer: I didn't really weight it as itself but it didn't add much weight to my gun. My Remington 700 with heavy barrel was heavy already.
Question: Would this work on a ruger 308 precision rifle? Model
Answer: I dont see why not. You will need high rise scope mounts though. I have it on a Ruger American 30.06.
Question: Does this have an illuminated reticle
Answer: No, the reticle is not illuminated per se...when the illumination is enabled it places a "red dot" in the center of the cross-hairs of the reticle. The red dot is visible in low light situations and will be very hard to see in daylight hours...but very handy for fast target acquisition in low light. Here is a link to their site with a picture. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/crossfire-II-1-4x24-riflescope-with-v-brite-moa-reticle/reticle
Question: How is the glass? Sight clarity? Especially when you put it at
Answer: Excellent for the price. Not going to compare to my Razor HD in glass quality or features, but $200 vs $2500, it's unbeatable value and warranty. I have at least 7 crossfires of different sizes on calibers from 22 to 30 cal. Clarity is good enough to watch the bullet trace from a 22lr hit paper at 100 yards at 24x and see all of the bullet holes. Clarity further out is still quite good as well. I highly recommend them.

Wheeler Engineering Professional Reticle Leveling System with Heavy-Duty Construction, Universal Design and Storage Case for Gunsmithing and Maintenance

Wheeler

Based on 3 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Technological advances in today's modern firearms, ammunition and optics have enhanced the potential for long range accuracy. However, precision mounting and alignment of your system's scope is critical to realizing the accuracy. A scope's reticle must be precisely aligned with the weapon to ensure holdover or turret adjustments for bullet drop produce true vertical compensation for point of impact. If the crosshairs are canted left or right both elevation and windage bullet impact error will occur.

  • ACCURACY: Each level has an integrated bubble level for precise measurement and the Reference Level has a magnetic bottom for added stability
  • VERSATILITY: Adjustable barrel clamp level fits around even the largest diameter barrels, including shotguns
  • DURABLE: Precision machined aluminum with an anodized finish
  • NON-DESTRUCTIVE: Barrel Clamp Level features non-marring pads to ensure no damage is done at the contact points
  • INCLUDES: calibrated machined aluminum level housings, foam-molded storage case

User questions & answers

Question: How's the quality control? I am surprised that a lot of people blindly trust that a level is level without doing the 180 degree test
Answer: No. Console only. No cords, no games, no controllers.
Question: Do you only level the reticle with this? Or can you use this to level your scope to your rifle as well
Answer: The Wiimotes take 2 AA batteries. You don't need a charger, you just replace the batteries. There are third party rechargeable batteries with chargers, but that is not part of this listing.
Question: My question is...what is the top adjustment on the barrel clamp used for
Answer: It is well known that PS3 and Blu-ray Discs are both made by Sony, so PS3 offers native support for Blu-ray discs apparently, while the popular Nintendo Wii has no luck on this aspect, it can only play Wii and Gamecube games, no support for CDs, and DVDs, not to mention Blu-rays. It is said When Nintendo made the Wii, they were just focusing on fun and video games, not multimedia entertainment. But why couldn't we use it as a part of our home theater system to watch movies? Factually, it is possible to play Blu-ray movies on Wii, Dimo Video Converter Ultimate can help you solve this problem.
Question: Do not see how you properly position the barrel level? It looks like you could attach this clamp at any position 360 degrees around the barrel
Answer: It comes with all the cables plus the sensor bar, and remote and other one to hook it up with the other remote. Works good.

Professional Reticle Leveling System

Proper mounting and alignment of your system's scope is critical to achieving its full potential. The Wheeler Engineering Professional Reticle Leveling System is a precision tool designed to allow a scope to be perfectly leveled on any firearm with ease. It's the most effective instrument available for precision scope alignment.

Proper Installation

The system includes two calibrated machined aluminum level housings. The Barrel Clamp Level is attached to the firearm's barrel while the smaller Reference Level is placed on scope base, (bottom half of a ring or other flat surface perpendicular to the vertical axis). The firearm is then rotated until the Reference Level is aligned.

Fine Adjustments

The tuning adjustment knob on the Barrel Clamp Level is turned until the level is centered to match the Reference Level. The Barrel Clamp Level is then calibrated to the firearm's axis. The scope can be installed loosely and the Reference Level placed on top of the scopes turret cap. The scope is rotated until the Reference Level is aligned with the Barrel Clamp Level and secured in place.

Compact Storage Case

With a custom case, your Wheeler Reticle Leveling System is secure and ready when you need it most.

User questions & answers

Question: Will low height rings fit this scope & a remington
Answer: Yes this will fit with a low height rings on a Remington 700! I have one mounted on a Remington 700 bdl
Question: Is it good in dark areas
Answer: Me owning both a 44mm and a 50mm I’d say if you want one for lower light go 50mm. I’ve heard that it doesn’t matter but like I said i have both.. the 50mm you can see earlier in the morning and later into the night.. only down side is if your facing a sun rise or a sun down the 50mm absorbs to much light causing a glare.. you can buy a screw in extender that takes care of that tho.. hope That helped
Question: will this scope hold up to the pounding of the AK47 recoil
Answer: This is an amazing scope. Like the others have said handling a 416 rigby and a 338 win mag itll hold up to the 7.62x39 for sure. I know ur thinking probably about the continual jarring of a semi automatic but this scope holds up just fine. Best thing is u cant go wrong with vortexes warranty. I have two a 2-7x32 on my 375 HH, and a 3-9x40 on my .30.06, and only had one issue on the 3-9x40 from a shooting trip after i got it home i guess it got knocked around too hard and there was like dirt inside of the glass. I called vortex they sent me a sgipping label and said well fix it ir replace it and in a week or two i got my scope back good as new. I love vortex the scopes are great, and the customer service cant be beat.
Question: Does this scope come with flip up scope covers? If not, any recommendations
Answer: The scope does not come with flip up scope covers. I purchased Butler Creek ones and they work great. For the eye piece go with size 14-15-16 (their sizing is weird) and for the objective go with 13-15. They work great and I have no complaints.

User questions & answers

Question: im unable to keep the Wraith sighted in. What could be the problem? How to fix
Answer: I would contact UUQ customer service. From what I've read, they are very helpful and accommodating.
Question: Will this work with a 300winmag? Does it work equally well for a daytime scope
Answer: I dont know how big your blackout pistol is, so very hard to answer ... but if this helps the scope is about 13 inches long and approx 4 inches high to the top of reflex sight. It is somewhat heavy, as it made my 15-22 about twice as much weight as it was without. However, if you have the room for it, i still think its a great little scope. I would say however that for my 22 its fine, but if you are going to do long range shooting, the optics are clear, but paralax is lacking. if you want to use 16x you better be looking at something a long way off or it will be fuzzy. Hope this helps
Question: Anyone put this on a scar 17 yet
Answer: There's a dial on top of the eye piece, it has five brightness settings and off.
Question: Does it come with cr123 batteries? Or do i need to purchase these
Answer: Yes. It’s a great scope.

User questions & answers

Question: What height of rings for a savage 110ba
Answer: I shoot mine form 10 yards to 250 yards on my 22lr and 223. Absolutely flawless.
Question: How many mils total adjustment is available for elevation/windage
Answer: I would be careful because I had it on my Ak-74 (5.45x39mm) and it shattered one of the adjustment lenses. And no longer works. It's made for low caliber so I wouldn't recommend. Shattered after about 400 rounds. Great scope besides that.
Question: If I’m putting this scope on my muzzleloader which shoots 500 yds is this to much scope
Answer: I would say it is too much magnification power for an air gun. Hope I helped
Question: Does this come with a sun shade or lens caps

User questions & answers

Question: I'm putting this scope on my AR what height rings and offset would be good for this with a large 56 diameter do I need High rings
Answer: I bought 1.45 inch rings. Perfect height to retain cheek weld.
Question: Does butler creeks size 51 scope cover fit this objective
Answer: Vortex claims 31 mils of elevation adjustment, mine has slightly more. With a 40 MOA rail the scope has about 26.5 mils of up elevation adjustment. This is beyond what my abilities can accurately produce. The rifle and bullet combo i have should get out to at least 1900 meters.
Question: could you count antlers at 100 yds at dusk
Answer: Jason, Not at all. I bought mine specifically to for my .22 (to use primarily at NRL .22 matches) that I only shoot out to 300yds. The clarity, magnification range, and 15 yard parallax setting are all very useful. As far as magnification-better to have it and not need it if on the fence-the 25x may come in handy to ID deer, etc. Lower ranges extremely clear as well. You won't be disappointed!
Question: I am wanting this to put on an ar 223 5.56 will it be a good match on this rifle and what type mounts would you recommend. Thank You in advance for yo
Answer: Yes, it comes with both rubber caps and screw on shade.

User questions & answers

Question: Will they fit 3/8" dovetail
Answer: I bought 1.45 inch rings. Perfect height to retain cheek weld.
Question: What is the measurement from the bottom of the scope well to the top of the mounting base
Question: Will this work with the "hawke sport optics 14222 vantage ir 3-9x40 riflescope"? (the front bell is 47 mm
Question: Will this mouny on the Ruger 10 22 take down factory weaver rail
Answer: Yes, it comes with both rubber caps and screw on shade.

Question: Does it come with mounting hardware
Answer: Most scopes now in use are 3x9x40, so it should work. Also I think these rings are made in low & medium. I have a 3x9x40 on a rifle with low rings. Depends more on the rifle & barrel than the rings. Hope this helps.
Question: Limited 3-year warranty or full lifetime warranty? which is it
Answer: Not certain re 10-22, but they will fit Ruger American Rimfire, bolt action rifle, so would suspect it would fit 10-22. Suggest visiting Weaver website
