9 best red dot views
A red dot sight is a type of non-magnifying reflector sight used on firearms and other precision instruments for aiming purposes. It falls under the category of gun parts and accessories and is widely utilized in shooting sports, hunting, and other related activities. Here are some key points about red dot sights:
Optical Principle: Red dot sights use a non-magnifying reflector to display an illuminated red dot or reticle on a lens, which serves as the aiming point.
Parallax-Free: One of the primary advantages of red dot sights is that they are designed to be parallax-free, meaning the point of aim remains consistent regardless of the viewer's eye position.
Types of Red Dot Sights:
- Tube Style: These are enclosed in a cylindrical tube and are often more robust and durable. They are popular among professional shooters and for tactical applications.
- Open Style: These have an open design without the tube, which can provide a wider field of view. They are often more lightweight and suitable for rapid target acquisition.
Reticle Types:
- Dot: The most common type, which features a simple illuminated red dot as the aiming point.
- Circle Dot: Combines a circle around the dot for quicker target acquisition.
- Crosshair: Some red dot sights offer crosshair-style reticles for more precise aiming.
Adjustable Brightness: Red dot sights typically have adjustable brightness settings to accommodate different lighting conditions. This ensures that the dot remains visible in both bright daylight and low-light situations.
Mounting Options: They can be mounted on a variety of firearms, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns. They may attach directly to a Picatinny or Weaver rail system or use specialized mounts.
Battery-Powered: Many red dot sights are battery-powered and may have varying battery life depending on the model and brightness settings.
Waterproof and Shockproof: Quality red dot sights are often built to withstand harsh environmental conditions and recoil from firearms.
Zeroing and Adjustments: Red dot sights allow for windage and elevation adjustments to zero the sight with the firearm.
Uses:
- Hunting: Red dot sights are popular for quick target acquisition in hunting scenarios.
- Competitive Shooting: They are commonly used in various shooting sports such as IPSC, USPSA, and 3-Gun.
- Tactical and Law Enforcement: Widely employed by military and law enforcement for its rapid target acquisition capabilities.
Red dot sights offer a quick and intuitive aiming solution, making them a valuable tool for shooters across different disciplines. It's important to choose a red dot sight that suits the specific firearm and intended use.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this fit a standard glock 17 gen 3 (not mos)? i believe i need a glock mount plate. do you know what mount plate will work for the vortex venom |
Answer: | You can get a plate for Glock Gen 3/Gen 4 that mounts using the rear sight dovetail from EGW (Evolution Gun Works) or you can mount to the rail with something like a UM Tactical UM3 rail mount (mount surrounds the slide and optic is forward), or you could send your Glock out to have it milled for the optic plate. Best option is having the slide milled. If you want the plate from EGW for the Vortex Venom - it is their part number 49313. Keep in mind that this mount plate is aluminum and even a brass punch will damage it. You should use phenolic/plastic or wood dowel punch to align in the dovetail and be prepared to remove some material from the plate dovetail to get it to fit. It has set screws to hold in place - but you should also use locktite. Also keep in mind that using the dovetail plate will place the optic higher than it would be than if the slide was milled. I have Glock 19 MOS with the plate included, and a Trijicon RMR. I could say that mounting to the dovetail will take the gun (Glock) and make the dot acquisition even more difficult. If you are just getting your feet wet on the idea of an optic, then the dovetail might be a low cost way to go. I have also SIG P226 with Romeo1, Canik TP9Sfx with Trijicon RMR also. Both the SIG and Canik are much better in terms of dot acquisition in my opinion than the Glock 19 MOS. Good luck. I have a Vortex Venom that I initially placed on a S&W Victory .22 using the supplied rail - the Venom did not have enough vertical adjustment range to bring up point of aim. I put a Trijicon RMR on it and it was fine. My experience with the Venom may be a fluke, but without changing the mount, the RMR was fine. Good luck. |
Question: | Is this sight's brightness fully adjustable |
Answer: | The Venom Red Dot has 10 levels of brightness settings. |
Question: | Installing this on a fnx 45 tactical, does that require any additional mounting hardware or is it a dirrect fit |
Answer: | Yes it does mount to an FNX-45 Tactical, I know because I did it! Just use 2 of the 5-40 mount screws that should have come with your FNX-45. No mount plate, mods or anything extra required. Just 2 screws with a little blue lock-tite. Works perfectly! |
Question: | Does this have a rail mount on it? Will it attach to a standard rail |
Answer: | The sight will directly attach to a picatinny rail. On a semi auto pistol that is not pre cut for the sight, you must purchase a dove tail mount. Attach the sight to the mount, remove rear sight and install into dove tail. |

StrikeFire II Red/Green Dot Sight (SF-RG-501)
When situations demand split-second target acquisition and maximum field of view, mount up the StrikeFire II and shoot—both eyes open. Feature-rich, versatile and reliable, the StrikeFire II is a great choice for shooters who want a quality red dot sight. Features sleek rear-facing controls for power on/off and easy adjustment of ten dot intensity levels—lowest two settings are night-vision compatible. Automatically returns to the last dot intensity used when powered up. The 30mm aluminum alloy chassis provides extra-high recoil rating and is waterproof and fogproof. Strike fast!
The lower 1/3 co-witness cantilever mount model is ideal for rifle platforms, positioning the optic bore center 40 mm above the base surface.
Red/Green Dot Reticle
The 4 MOA Red/Green Dot is ideal for situations that demand split-second target acquisition. Choose among ten variable illumination settings—the lowest two settings are night-vision compatible.
The key thing to remember when shooting with the StrikeFire II red dot is to keep both your eyes open! Shooting with both eyes open allows you to take full advantage of your peripheral vision to get on target very quickly. Eye placement is not critical. As long as you can see the dot, you’ll hit your target!
Windage and Elevation Adjustments
The StrikeFire II red dot incorporates elevation and windage dials with audible clicks. Each small click will move the point-of-impact 1/2 Minute of Angle (MOA). 1/2 MOA will correspond to 1/2 inch at 100 yards, 1/4 inch at 50 yards, 1/8 inch at 25 yards, etc.
Adjust the elevation and windage settings:
1. Remove the dial covers.
2. Use the raised bar on the dial cover, a coin or screw driver to make the adjustments.
3. Turn the adjustment dial in the appropriate direction as indicated by the arrow on the dial. Move the dial in the direction you wish the bullet’s point-of-impact to change.
Mounting the StrikeFire II
To get the best results from your StrikeFire II red dot, proper mounting is essential and, although not difficult, the correct steps must be followed. Your firearm will need to be equipped with a Picatinny or Weaver style rail/base.
To attach the included cantilever ring mount:
1. Attach the lower part of the cantilever ring mount to the rail/base and make sure this is solidly seated in the base groove. To prevent recoil injury, position the ring so that you have at least four inches of eye relief.
2. Be sure the base clamp is hooked around the outside of the rail/base. Press downward and forward toward the muzzle. Then, firmly tighten the base clamp hex nut.
3. Place the StrikeFire II on the lower part of the cantilever ring mount with the adjustment control buttons facing the shooter. Tighten ring cap screws evenly until all are snug—use caution so as not to over-tighten. Once the screws are tightened, the StrikeFire II should not move on the rail/base.

Answer: | I wear a size 13 and they fit pretty true. Being waterproof, they keep the wind off your feet pretty well. I took a longish ride last Oct and it was 29 degrees when started in the morning. My hands got cold long before my feet did, requiring coffee stops about every 45-60 minutes. |
Question: | Would this work well on an SKS |

Question: | Will this sight co-witness with magpul mbus blip-up backup sights |
Answer: | Yes we have used ours many times. You just need this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00YEEDJF6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490656143&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=boom+pole+holder&dpPl=1&dpID=41Rbc4HYQKL&ref=plSrch |
Question: | how long is battery life |
Answer: | They are just regular turtle based legs. They will have a bit of resistance when collapsed or when moved into their respective spots. I always just grab the inside leg and the outside and pull them in separate directions. They all should also have a notch in which they lock in place once opened all the way. |
Question: | does this come with a mount riser |
Answer: | No, this particular model does not. |
Question: | I'm kind of on a tight budget I was either think of this or the UTG 4'' ITA red dot. What im wondering is if this one is worth getting |
Answer: | Yes. We run Alien Bees and/or White Lightning with a 47" octabox. You will need sand bags just to be safe. If your concern is the 47" box with a 4' arm, remember the 47" box is a diameter measurement, you will only need half that to clear the holding arm. |

Flush QD Mount
The new quick detach mount for the R-Spec and A-Spec is designed with a low profile. Now the handle sits nearly flush with the main housing. The low profile design eliminates snags on vests or other equipment. With this design, the handle remains set in the open position due to the flat cut near the handle’s axis of rotation. This small improvement keeps the handle stable and not loose potentially marking the finish. Finally, the handle is made of steel noted by it’s different finish. Steel is more durable and less prone to breaking.
InterlokTM Adjustment System
The interlok adjustment system is a internal retention system that ensure windage and elevation adjustments remain zeroed during recoil. Competitor reflex sights typically require the adjustment system be unlocked using a screw or set of lock screws. These designs can be damaged or break if the customer forgets to loosen the locking screw. The interlok adjustment system removes the need of a locking screw so shooters can make adjustments on the fly.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit on a h&r single shot rifle |
Answer: | It fits a Picatinny rail. You can likely install one if your firearm doesn't already have one. |
Question: | What is the expected battery life on this |
Answer: | Sorry for jumping in here late, but just wanted to add that John was 100% correct on his answer. If the brightness is set too high for the ambient light conditions, you can get a "starburst" effect. We recommend running red dot sights at the lowest brightness setting that you can still clearly see the dot (the exact setting will depend on ambient light) |
Question: | How easy will it be to see a man sized target at 300m |
Answer: | That shouldn't happen. Best is to contact them, I believe they will replace faulty red dot sights. The laser and red dot are independent from each other. If you push the Red Dot button it should turn on. & When you turn off you have to press it for like 5 seconds. Just contact the company. |
Question: | HOW CLEAR ARE THE RED AND GREEN DOTS |
Answer: | I have a magpul flip up rear and iron on the barrel. My red dot sight is mounted just in front of of the flip rear. My reticle when sighted hovers just above my front iron sight but I can see my magpul rear through the optic if need be. Hope this helps. I love this optic on my AR |

Product description
The DeltaPoint Pro is proof that you don’t have to compromise performance, even on a small sight. And now it supports modern nv devices with brightness settings that fine tune the red dot to match the sensitivity of your equipment. Its incredibly wide field-of-view and crystal-clear glass dominates the competition, while its rugged aluminum housing and steel sheath ensure it will perform in the harshest conditions. Ease-of-use was also a focus when designing this elite red dot sight, which is why we put an easy access battery compartment on top and gave it click-adjustments for more precision. User questions & answers
Question: | Will this mount on my glock G40mos |
Answer: | I would be sure it's a 2 screw riser. I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned. But I've seen this scope mounted. It's long enough ot really needs a 2 screw riser. |
Question: | Does this come with the co-witness rear sight as shown in the picture |
Answer: | I have this from eBay. Non magnified dot is 5 MOA and the 2x power Version of These it's dot is 2.5 MOA. It says it Right in the manual which comes in the box. So the magnified Version is 2.5 MOA. Parallax for the magnified one is at 50 Yards. At 50 meters I have zeroed mine and rested it shoots were I aim with an handgun (357 mag revolver). Field of View is limited drastically by the magnification (2x power versions) so you get About 20mm FoV instead the 40mm claimed (it's like Looking down a pipe). Glasses are so-so Quality and dot is way on the dimm side (only usefull Setting is the highest unless you live on the North pole were it's allways dark). But it works and will do the Job for Hunting up to 100 Yards or so). |
Question: | Will this mount on a s&w m&p 9l pro core |
Answer: | I am not sure what This is? If it is a Red dot. then yes it would work fine an an SKS as long as you have a mount for it. They really need to tie this to the product so I know what I am answering. |
Question: | Which moa should i use for my glock 40 mos (hunting/plinking) and which for my glock 34 (competition)? thanks |
Answer: | i use it for snowmobiling so there is alot of other equipment there to keep it in place. There is no draw string. I would not buy this product again because its too big and when it gets wet it falls down off your face. junk if you ask me |
