13 best hunting sticks
Hunting sticks, also commonly known as shooting sticks, are portable and adjustable devices used by hunters to stabilize their firearms or shooting equipment while taking aim and shooting at game. They provide support to enhance accuracy and stability, especially in situations where shooting from a standing or unsupported position is challenging.
Here are the main types of hunting sticks:
Bipod Sticks: Bipod sticks have two legs that extend to the ground, providing a stable platform for the firearm. The height of each leg can be adjusted independently to accommodate uneven terrain.
Tripod Sticks: Tripod sticks have three legs and offer stability similar to bipod sticks. They provide a solid base for the firearm and are often adjustable to suit various shooting positions.
Monopod Sticks: Monopod sticks have a single leg and provide a simple, portable option for stabilizing the firearm. They are often used in situations where quick setup and mobility are essential.
Shooting Sticks with V-Yoke Rest: Some hunting sticks feature a V-shaped yoke rest at the top, allowing the firearm to rest securely in the V-notch while aiming. This design provides additional stability and support.
Hunting sticks can be made from various materials, including aluminum, carbon fiber, or steel. The choice of material affects the stick's weight, durability, and overall performance.
Key features and considerations when selecting hunting sticks include:
Adjustability: The ability to adjust the height and angle of the sticks is crucial for achieving a comfortable shooting position and accommodating varying terrains.
Portability: Hunting sticks should be lightweight and easy to carry, allowing hunters to move quickly and quietly in the field.
Durability: Sticks should be built to withstand the rigors of outdoor use and resist damage from the elements.
Weight Capacity: The sticks should be able to support the weight of the firearm and any additional accessories securely.
Quick Deployment: Sticks should be easy and quick to set up to ensure the hunter can be ready to take a shot at a moment's notice.
Using hunting sticks can significantly improve accuracy and increase the chances of a successful hunt by providing a stable shooting platform. They are valuable accessories for hunters seeking to enhance their shooting capabilities and overall hunting experience.

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is this |
Answer: | 21 to 30" can only be used while sitting or kneeling. I got the longer stick, works great sitting, kneeling and walking. Really helps when glassing while standing. |
Question: | With the short monopod it says that it adjust to 30 in. Is that to the bottom of the yoke or just the legs themselves |
Answer: | Yoke to ground |
Question: | With this work with mono pod tree stand attachment |
Answer: | I have read that the tree stand attachment only works with the 1st and 2nd Gen monopods. The 3rd gen monopod would need a threaded bolt in the bottom where the hard plastic is at the bottom and then it threads into the tree stand base. So, if you are in Walmart or somewhere that has a 3rd Gen monopod just pull off the end of it at the base and see if there is a threaded bolt there. You could also simply contact Primos. |
Question: | Other than the price, what is the difference between the shooting stick gen 2 and gen |
Answer: | The Gen 2 doesn’t extend as far. I use the Gen 2 when I’m sitting on the ground. They both have the same features. |

About us
Ask any hunter who makes the game calls and chances are you’ll hear the name Primos. Will Primos, to be exact. As a 5-year old boy in Jackson, Mississippi in 1958, Will wanted nothing more than to tag along on duck hunts with the older boys in the family. When the day finally arrived, he was hooked on hunting for life. And a legendary journey that helped teach an entire generation become better hunters began. In 1963, at the age of 11, Will crafted his first a duck call after a special day spent hunting in green timber with his Uncle Gus. “Uncle Gus was an expert duck caller, and I was absolutely enthralled hearing him make that call sing. That was my first experience witnessing the magic. And when I got home, I made my own call by copying my uncle’s.”

Question: | How high can you climb with these |
Answer: | If you buy a one step aider, you can easily get 23-24 feet. That’s what I use. Alone, I would say 12-16 ft depending on how long your legs are. |
Question: | do you need the part / peg that locks them together if you're not worried about carrying them together? More concerned about climbing functionality |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it come with the rifle clamp |
Answer: | Yes, it ONLY comes with a clamping system. The clamping system is non detachable so you cannot replace it with an Arca Swiss ball head or something similar. The clamp is all you get. |
Question: | Is there an attachment to mount a spotting scope to this system? I don’t want to carry two tripods into the field |
Answer: | 1/4" stud on mine. Can attach a spotting scope on. |
Question: | What material is the clamp made out of |
Answer: | The clamp is made out of magnesium, read the description for confirmation of this. I have the Carbon Fiber version and absolutely love how strong and solid it is. I also bought an extra ultralite clamp for another tripod to put my spotting scope and rangefinder in. It makes your rangefinder so much more precise. I own a Primos trigger stick tripod and find it near impossible to hold on target at even 100 yds. I shot prairie dogs out to 547 yds with my deathgrip. Proof is in the performance. Bought two more of the Carbon ones for two of my hunting buddies and they sent me a text thanking me for talking them into the purchase because they love theirs too! The bad reviews must not be doing it right. My buddy said he didn't even take his rifle out of the clamp when moving shooting locations, while shooting prairie dogs, and it never moved. Clampdown legs feel like they are very well built. I feel there isn't a cheap component in the construction and super simple and fast to set up. Yes it weighs over 7 lbs, but that's what makes it a solid platform for accuracy. |
Question: | Is the carbon fiber version worth the extra |
Answer: | I do not own either yet, but I ask the same question and realized the $100 saves you only 1lbs weight wise. Aluminum is 8.5lbs and C-fiber is 7.5lbs. As far as materials go it maybe worth it as far as rigidity/flex. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I just received the shooting stick but didnt come with gun rest |
Answer: | The lightly padded "V" at the top of the stick is the only rest that came with the one I ordered. If it doesn't appear exactly as one in the picture, you may have an issue. |
Question: | Is it sturdy enough to be used as a walking stick as well |
Answer: | Nope. I tried, even though I knew it wasn't sturdy enough, and it bent in half. Get a Primos Trigger stick, or similar if you need a walking stick as well. |
Question: | can you unscrew the mount on the top of the stick? Or is it permanently fastened |
Answer: | Yes, you can unscrew the "V" yoke. After removal a screw is exposed that you can mount a camera or spotting scope on. Hope that helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use the tripod as a walking stick as well |
Answer: | Yes, although not ideal as the weight is more substantial than a walking stick. |
Question: | by puling the trigger can it rise up automatically the weight of the rifle |
Answer: | It will rise up. Just lift the rifle up as you pull the trigger on the stick. That way you are lessening the weight of the rifle as the stick rises. |
Question: | Are the length dimensions (18"-38") the length of the legs? Or is it from bottom of leg to the yolk. In other words is the handle included in the leng |
Answer: | the legs on mine are 18" to 31". The body from the top of the legs to the top of the V add another 10". |
Question: | What is the length with all 3 legs together and fully retracted |
Answer: | Don't know exact height I don't have the Stick where I can measure it right now. I can tell you they are higher than 18" but not significantly higher possibly 3 or 4 inches higher to the gun resting position . They work great but with the legs extended to their normal retracted position they are too high for me to use in a sitting position. They do have a feature where you can rotate the base so the legs will spread wider allowing the sticks to lower further to a height that will work will I'm setting. I'm not tall 5'-6" so I have to spread the legs to the wider position when sitting which works but they are slight spongy since they are spread wider. Still allows a fairly steady rest but not as solid as the normal locking position on the legs fully retracted. |

Answer: | I am 230lb & they held me plus my stand weight while pulling it up. They are sturdy. |
Question: | How sturdy/ stable is it |
Answer: | You need a straight tree for it to be held securely to the tree. The "stick" itself I found to be sturdy. |
Question: | Where can i find pins to connect sections together |
Answer: | You do not need pins. |
Question: | Does the bottom of the stick have to rest on the ground or can you start the first step up a few feet |
Answer: | You should set the sticks on the ground per the instructions. |
