Answer:	Those are called Jags and are caliber specific. You "spear" a solvent soaked patch (or dry depending on stage of cleaning) in the center on the sharp tip. It holds the patch in place better and makes better contact with the bore, so it cleans more thoroughly than the patch loops. Jags are good to use especially if you have a really dirty barrel. Avoid plastic ones as they easily break off and make sure to use the correct caliber Jag from the kit. The ones in this kit are brass so they won't break off or score your barrel.
