User questions & answers
Question: | Is the leather on this coated in something? Doesn't feel like I'd thought it'd feel for leather, comparing it to the sheath anyway |
Answer: | I don't believe it is. It is hard leather. I put leather conditioner on mine. I also bought a Kydex hard sheath for it. |
Question: | Is this the same knife as the Marine Ka-Bar? What is the difference |
Answer: | This knife has ARMY stamped on it whereas the Marine Ka-Bar has USMC stamped on blade hilt, other than that it is the same knife... |
Question: | Does this knife have a full length tang |
Answer: | This is what is called a through tang. A cousin or more accurate in the family of full tank knives. A genuine K-Bar will always have this and is pinned to the pommel. This makes a very sturdy knife and handle. This is the most common method for quality full tang knives with round or mostly round grips. |
Question: | Is this a US made knife |
Answer: | be careful when you assume that all Ka-Bar knives are U.S. made. for instance check the USMC brother to this knife here. in the description it clearly states "imported" https://www.amazon.com/KA-BAR-Marine-Corps-Fighting-Straight/dp/B001H53Q6M/ref=pd_ybh_a_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3YEGG3DHV2X7ERHQZ14X ugh! sacrilege to have the leatherneck version not be made in the U.S. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this the latest version with the upgraded sheath that has both a snap and velcro on the belt loop so the sheath can be taken off without removing your belt |
Answer: | Mine is. I assume the stock they have will be the same as mine. Removing or adding the knife to a belt without removing the belt a couple loops looks like a pain. I have never tried it tho. I just undo my belt for a second. You are talking about the space between your belt and pants. Not much room there. |
Question: | Will the bk14 or bk11 fit in the small sheath that is attached to the bk7 sheath |
Answer: | one thing i have found is that the small sheath will fit a tdi small so so perfectly it seems like it was meant for it. i now know what i am going to put in my bk9 small sheath (same sheath style) |
Question: | How easily does the knife rust? should i be worried about a little rain coming into contact with the knife |
Answer: | Depends on where you live. I live in the tropics of India where it is most certain that carbon steel will, if not taken care of, accumulate rust. In the Himalayas, where i first used the knife as my primary, there was a bit of rust after 3-4 days of usage (for chopping/ batoning) as i was not carrying oil to keep away the rust. The edge of the blade that obviously lacks the coating is the first victim. Nevertheless, it was easy to remove and keep it clean once i discovered the rust - scraped it off using the sharpening stone i was carrying and used some cooking oil to keep the knife rust free for the rest of the expedition. Second instance was in the rain forests of southern India during a monsoon trek. Given the humidity, the knife will certainly rust in tropical rain forests (as opposed to the himalayas which still retain an alpine weather and hence the rust was seen only after 3-4 days). After a monsoon trek - which is basically walking in a downpour for 5-6 hours and using the knife to make walking sticks and other camping accessories, the knife had rust accumulated the same evening. Again, edge of the blade and regions where the coating is coming off (i have been using it for a year now, for all expeditions) are vulnerable, but then again, a few drops of oil and a sandpaper are handy. Carry them if you are using the knife in tropics. |
Question: | how thick is the blade |
Answer: | The spine is 3/16" thick at the edge of spine. It holds this thickness for 7/16" as you move away from the spine and then starts tapering toward the cutting edge, which is 1-1/8" from where the taper starts. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the sheath sharpen the blade like a real ka bar does |
Answer: | What Kabar has a sheath that sharpens the blade? |
Question: | Wondering if this a a good knife for hunting |
Answer: | It’s a good hardy knife with a decent edge that can take a beating. If you’re looking for a knife for skinning game and cutting meat there are probably better options. |
Question: | Will this knife strike a ferro rod |
Answer: | The knife has a solid edged backstrap and should be able to be used with a ferro rod however the blade is epoxy coated so it may be resistant at first to the rod until some of the epoxy is worn down to the metal of the blade. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a genuine ka bar |
Answer: | We buy all Ka-Bar products directly from Ka-Bar Knife Company. We sell only genuine produts. |
Question: | Do you deliver to iraq |
Answer: | Not me |
Question: | Does this knife come with the matching sheath? Product description does not specify |
Answer: | Hi, Steve:Yes, it does come with a matching leather sheath. If you're wondering about the quality of the sheath, the quality is fine. It's tought and takes abuse. Also; if you plan to wear this on a belt, I suggest that you either buy, or make a tie down strap (The tip of the sheath has hole for a tie down strap) since the tip of the sheath tends to get caught on brush, and when you run, it flaps around and is rather annoying. |
Question: | Does the US Army version have "US Army" stamped on the knife itself or is it written only on the sheath that comes with it |
Answer: | Yes, it is stamped on one side U.S.Army and on the other it has KA-BAR Olean,NY, also has U.S Army along with the insignia on the sheath. Hope this helps,, it's been a great knife. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this Ka-Bar D2 made in the USA |
Answer: | Knife made in the USA sheath made in Mexico |
Question: | Which "steel" used 4 the d2 blade? the butt & guard r 1095 like traditional ka-bar fighting knife . is the blade made of a better quality steel |
Answer: | D2 steel is a hardened steel. It's used a lot for machining of other steels. It's also used in a lot of tool Applications. |
Question: | does this come with a sheath |
Answer: | It does come with a good leather sheath and I used to use a technique to mold the leather to fit the knife better so it doesn't stick in the sheath at all however for the past seven years I have been using KA-BAR #1216 Hard Knife Sheath and I have no complaints. It will hold the knife with out the strap buttoned kind of reminiscent of a good Japanese sword, once you pull past that initial hold it slides out like silk. My friend who also owns this sheath complains about surface rust on the button but that is from neglect and it's doesn't affect performance at all. |
Question: | What type of sheath does it come with? Many people have said it comes with different sheaths |
Answer: | Yes, all the same knife but different sheath options. 1283 comes with a black leather sheath, model 1282 comes with a black plastic hard shell sheath, and model 1281 comes with a heavy-duty black nylon sheath with storage pocket. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does this compare to the Ontario RTAK II |
Answer: | The only RTAK worth owning, is the original. The 1st gen RTAKs are more tough; less brittle. You certainly won't shatter it (unlike the RTAK II)! Given how difficult it would be to find a gen-one RTAK though, I'd just go with the BK9.. |
Question: | Bk7 or bk |
Answer: | I had the same "wonderful" problem, so I purchased both of them. At the end I decided to keep the BK9 and send the BK7 back. This is my analysis and strictly my opinion: The BK9 can do 80% of all the things the BK7 can do. The BK9 has a much much stronger blade point and thus is far superior for batoning. The BK9 is the knife that is in a special category and looks, feels and can do probably everything that the MAJORITY of your other knifes can NOT do. The BK9 is THE knife that I would keep, if I were given only ONE CHOICE of knifes to own. In my particular case, the BK7 would have been just "another one of those MANY knives" that are stored in my closet and just sit around, waiting to be used....but are not! The BK9 has to work hard, gets no rest and gets not pampered. It truly is one of those incredibly good knives. |
Question: | Is the blade full tang |
Answer: | Yes it is full tang .. 1095 HC it has a really rough Finnish on it that is very strong.. 1095 HC can rust though so if u rem oil it it'll b fine this is honestly my favorite knife I own and definitely the toughest knife out there it sharpens up very well and stays sharp the handle is ok but if you want u can upgrade that or put the tennis racket grips over the existing handle to give it more grip the sheath at first I thought it wasn't to great but I now really like it .. It is definitely the best knife for 80 $ out there for the cash you are not going to brake this knife |
Question: | Does anybody know what country the BK9 is made in |
Answer: | I called the Becker cite and was advised the BK9 "country of origin" is USA. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this the actual kabar knife? Or replica |
Answer: | It is a branded kabar knife in black and tanto style. As the description says, it has a Blade length: 5 1/4 inch. So if you are looking for a Marine issue with similar blade style and length, this is not what you are looking for. Kabar is a brand. |
Question: | is the knife full tang |
Answer: | Yes, the end of the tang is visible in the hilt. |
Question: | What is the difference between this model and the Ka-Bar |
Answer: | I don't think there is any difference between the two item numbers as far as the knife. Maybe the difference between the two are the type of scabbard that comes with it? There is a standard leather scabbard, and Kydex scabbard. |
Question: | Is the button cap end, metal? nice heft to the piece? and is the end cap perm attached, or screwed on |
Answer: | Yes the button cap end is metal but does not screw off - permanently affixed. The piece definitely has a nice weight - it is very much a quality knife. I have mine attached to my hunting pack and it is attached upside down for ease of reach while I am wearing the pack. The scabbard is made with 3 safety releases, a catch lock on the blade when fully inserted, a strap at the guard and a strap at the button end. I never use the button strap, but the other two make sure my knife never falls out while trekking through the woods. This is a high quality knife and well worth the money |
Question: | Can the TDI clip be mounted to the sheath |
Answer: | The clip was not designed to be used on a fixed blade of this size. |
Question: | I know the knife is made in the USA, but does anyone know where the glass-filled nylon sheath is made |
Answer: | I think the sheath is china |
Question: | Does it come with the glass-filled nylon sheath listed in the description? Or does it come with no sheath or the leather one |
Answer: | Item 5054 comes with the glass-filled sheath and Item 1254 comes with the leather sheath... So, this one comes with the glass-filled sheath... |
