8 best okuma jigging rods

Okuma is a well-known brand in the fishing industry, particularly for its high-quality fishing rods and reels. Okuma jigging rods are designed specifically for jigging, which is a fishing technique that involves rapidly raising and lowering the bait or lure vertically in the water to attract fish. Here are some key features and information about Okuma jigging rods:

  1. Purpose-Built Design: Okuma jigging rods are purpose-built for the demands of vertical jigging. They are typically shorter and sturdier than traditional fishing rods, allowing anglers to effectively work their lures at various depths and target species that are commonly found deeper in the water.

  2. Materials: These rods are constructed using high-quality materials, such as graphite, carbon fiber, or a combination of materials to provide both strength and sensitivity. The choice of materials ensures that the rods are lightweight yet capable of handling the stresses of jigging.

  3. Rod Actions: Okuma jigging rods come in various actions, including medium-heavy, heavy, and extra-heavy. The choice of action depends on the type of fish you are targeting and the specific jigging technique you plan to use. Heavier actions are suitable for larger, more powerful species.

  4. Guides and Reel Seats: Okuma pays attention to the quality of guides and reel seats. High-quality guides reduce friction and improve casting performance, while comfortable reel seats ensure a secure fit for your reel.

  5. Length Options: Okuma offers a range of rod lengths to accommodate different jigging scenarios. Shorter rods are ideal for boat or kayak jigging, while longer rods provide more casting distance and versatility for shore-based jigging.

  6. Special Features: Some Okuma jigging rods may include special features like split grips for added comfort, ergonomic handles, and innovative technologies to enhance overall performance.

  7. Line and Lure Compatibility: It's important to match your jigging rod with the appropriate line and lures for the species you're targeting. Okuma provides recommendations for line weight and lure size to ensure optimal performance.

  8. Price Range: Okuma jigging rods are available in a range of price points to suit different budgets. They offer good value for the quality and performance they provide.

Overall, Okuma jigging rods are designed to meet the needs of anglers who enjoy the exciting and effective technique of vertical jigging. Whether you're targeting bottom-dwelling species like grouper and snapper or chasing pelagic species like tuna and kingfish, Okuma jigging rods are a popular choice among experienced jigging enthusiasts.

User questions & answers

Question: what size lures can it throw? I need to be able to chuck a 3 -5 oz. lure
Answer: The MH rod will cast 3-5 oz. it's a pretty heavy stick.
Question: Does this come with a bag or case
Answer: It *should* come with a bag. They did when they first came out, and they do from "official distributors". I would message the seller here and confirm. You should get one. Great sticks!
Question: Hi, will this Okuma Nomad travel rod (NT-S-703M-MH) pair well with the Okuma Avenger Baitfeeder 50a (Okuma ABF-50a) spinning reel
Answer: The Nomad rod is a pretty heavy duty stick. With the lighter medium tip, it would work with the Baitfeeder 50a, but I would find it out of balance. (Over-rodded, under-reeled. A 7000-8000 size spinning reel is a good balance. I sometimes use a Penn Spinfisher 7500 on mine. For Conventional reels, a 30-50 size is about right. If you are set on using the Baitfeeder 50a, Okuma also offers a Nomad Xpress, which is the same rod blank, but lighter and smaller grips and hardware, and comes in a 20-40 line weight model, which would be about perfect. (only one tip, but a lot more reasonable $)
Question: what are the lengths of the sections
Answer: 3 sections of 28 inches (70 cm) each

User questions & answers

Question: Just wondering what reels you all have been putting on the ML-M inshore rod. I see some Cedros 40 and 50. Just want to get the perfect one. Thanks
Answer: I use the Cedros 40clf on mine. I have put a 50 on it too. The 40 manages good sized Redfish, Stripers up to 39" and small Mahi Mahi, Lesser Amberjacks, Bonito, Albacore and Yellow Tail. I use food braid and dampen that with flurocarbon leader. Drag is the issue and line test that will not over stress the rods test weight. I believe you will be happy with the combinations.
Question: Just wondering what reels you all have been putting on the ML-M inshore rod. I see some Cedros 40 and 50. Just want to get the perfect one. Thanks
Answer: I'd go with the 40. I have the quantum Cabo 40 on it and it balances perfectly. Since everyone has different preference, you should just try it on b4 you buy if you want the perfect match.
Question: What is the length of the the longest section? I'm thinking about pack-ability. The product description indicates 16" but that does not add up
Answer: I have the NTi-S-703ML-M 7' model this the longest of the three sections is 30" and the case is about 32". It does fit well in the overhead compartment on a plane.
Question: What do you think is a better fit/balance for this rod? The Cedros 40 or the 55? Thanks
Answer: I would go with the Cedros 40, although I use the the Okuma Avenger ABF65. It has been a great combo for me..

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone thrown a 4oz weight with this rod? How did it perform
Answer: Yes it will perform as you want it to as long as you go with the MH action. I use 4oz spider weights plus the weight of large baits and this rod will throw them. It handles bull redfish and sharks with no problem. If you plan on throwing weights greater than 6oz I would recommend going with XH.
Question: What csx stands for? and what is the difference between cedros surf and cedros surf csx
Answer: The CSX is the newest generation of the Cedros surf rods. The Cedros CSX rod is lighter and features smaller guides and an upgraded reel seat with aluminum hood and locking nut.
Question: Is this as sensitive as the Hawaiian Custom Menpachi rod
Answer: No not quite but really close considering how much weight it can handle I have both the 12 and 13 ft Hawaiian custom Menpachi rods but I love this pole I paired it with a 6000 conflict I and 50# daiwa braided it’s good all day every day
Question: Is it 50/50 rod
Answer: I don't know. What is a 50/50 rod?
