Here's what you should know about Okuma baitcasting rods:
Variety of Models: Okuma offers a variety of baitcasting rod models to cater to different fishing styles and species. These models vary in terms of length, power, and action, allowing anglers to choose the right rod for their specific needs.Common series of Okuma baitcasting rods include Cedros CJ, Cedros CJ-65S, Cedros CJ-65S, and more.
Materials and Construction: Okuma baitcasting rods are typically constructed using high-quality materials. They often feature a combination of graphite and carbon fiber, which makes them lightweight and durable. The choice of materials and construction techniques can influence the rod's sensitivity and strength.
Rod Power and Action:
- Power: Okuma rods are available in different power ratings, such as light, medium, medium-heavy, and heavy. The power rating indicates the rod's strength and its ability to handle various fish sizes and weights.
- Action: The action of a rod determines where it flexes along its length when pressure is applied. Okuma rods come in a range of actions, from fast to moderate to slow. Fast-action rods bend primarily at the tip, while slow-action rods flex throughout the length. The choice of action depends on the type of lures and fishing techniques you plan to use.
Guides and Reel Seats: Okuma baitcasting rods are equipped with quality guides and reel seats. The guides are designed to minimize friction on the fishing line, improving casting distance and accuracy. Reel seats are comfortable and secure, ensuring your baitcasting reel is firmly attached to the rod.
Handle Design: Okuma baitcasting rods often feature ergonomic handles, commonly made of cork or EVA foam, providing a comfortable grip during long hours of fishing.
Target Species: Okuma designs baitcasting rods for a variety of target species, including freshwater and saltwater gamefish. Some rods are specialized for specific types of fishing, such as bass, trout, salmon, or inshore saltwater species.
Price Range: Okuma baitcasting rods are available at various price points, making them accessible to anglers with different budgets. Higher-end models may offer advanced features and materials, while more budget-friendly options provide solid performance for the price.
Maintenance: Proper care and maintenance are essential to prolong the life of any fishing rod. Rinse your Okuma baitcasting rod with freshwater after saltwater use, check for damage regularly, and store it in a rod sleeve or case to prevent scratches and impact damage.
In summary, Okuma baitcasting rods are popular among anglers for their range of models, materials, and performance characteristics. Choosing the right Okuma baitcasting rod depends on your fishing style, target species, and personal preferences, so consider these factors when making your selection.

User questions & answers
Question: | would this be a good rod to troll for striped marlin? 40-100 lb tuna on small boat not big overnight party boat |
Answer: | Yes there is a 1 year warranty. I broke the rod tip then contacted Okuma and they sent me a brand new top half of the rod with no charge. |
Question: | What is the line rating for this rod |
Answer: | Guys in Hawaii dunk with this rod all the time. |
Question: | is it fiberglass or graphite or composite |
Answer: | 1 piece. |
Question: | Will the Shimano Tranx 400 be a good match for this rod |
Answer: | The rod I have does not have the split grip. The grip is continuous from reel seat to butt. The BG 4500 will work on the rod. The 5000 would probably be a little better because it is a pretty powerful rod. I have a Quantum Cabo 80 on mine. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used for saltwater fishing |
Answer: | It does not specify, but I can say it will handle a 6“ sp minnow (1 1/9 oz) and had Landes multiple 20+ lb. striped bass. I haven’t thrown anything heavier. A decent rod for the price. |
Question: | Can this be used for saltwater fishing |
Answer: | Meaning bay/kelp/mile inshore. Not for offshore/heavy jiggin/tuna etc. I used it in the chesapeake bay for redfish/flounder and even decent striper. Now in CA and use it for halibut, calicos and even smaller yellowtail |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use braid with these rods? And are the good for big swimbaits |
Answer: | NO |
Question: | Is okuma-sst-c-962ml 9' 6" long |
Answer: | NO |
Question: | How long is this rod |
Answer: | I could not find a recommended lure weight on the rod, just a line weight of 8-17 lb. I use 12 lb test for salmon casting a 1/2 oz lure a fair distance and a 3/4 lure the best. Never tried a 1/8 oz lure but I doubt it would cast very far. |
Question: | I broke the bait, what should I do |
Answer: | The Nomad Inshore rods feature ALPS stainless steel guides with Zirconium inserts. |
- 3-Section break down for easy travel
- Two tips with different actions with each rod
- European spigot Ferrule connections for true one-piece rod feel
- Alps 316 SS guide frames with Zirconium guide inserts
- Included components: Fishing Rod
User questions & answers
Question: | what size lures can it throw? I need to be able to chuck a 3 -5 oz. lure |
Answer: | The MH rod will cast 3-5 oz. it's a pretty heavy stick. |
Question: | Does this come with a bag or case |
Answer: | It *should* come with a bag. They did when they first came out, and they do from "official distributors". I would message the seller here and confirm. You should get one. Great sticks! |
Question: | Hi, will this Okuma Nomad travel rod (NT-S-703M-MH) pair well with the Okuma Avenger Baitfeeder 50a (Okuma ABF-50a) spinning reel |
Answer: | The Nomad rod is a pretty heavy duty stick. With the lighter medium tip, it would work with the Baitfeeder 50a, but I would find it out of balance. (Over-rodded, under-reeled. A 7000-8000 size spinning reel is a good balance. I sometimes use a Penn Spinfisher 7500 on mine. For Conventional reels, a 30-50 size is about right. If you are set on using the Baitfeeder 50a, Okuma also offers a Nomad Xpress, which is the same rod blank, but lighter and smaller grips and hardware, and comes in a 20-40 line weight model, which would be about perfect. (only one tip, but a lot more reasonable $) |
Question: | what are the lengths of the sections |
Answer: | 3 sections of 28 inches (70 cm) each |

Komodo SS Low-Profile Baitcast Reel
It’s pretty obvious, but the 'SS' in Komodo SS stands for Stainless Steel. The Komodo SS is built around a heavy-duty stainless steel main gear, pinion gear, drive shaft and spool shaft to deliver an internal foundation of unrelenting strength and corrosion-resistance. In short, this is the major point of separation in new Komodo reels for those anglers who want to push these reels towards their maximum drag output of 30-pounds on large predatory fish.
Around this superior foundation, Komodo SS reels continue with premium components including: rigid, machined aluminum frame and spool, aluminum side plates, high-output Carbonite drag system and updated 6-pin Velocity Cast Control System.
Performance features include six or seven (depending upon size) stainless steel HPB High Performance Bearings, plus roller bearing, for outstanding corrosion-resistance. The synchronized level-wind system does not disengage for casting. This ensures that when fishing braided lines, the level-wind always maintains alignment with line as it comes off the spool. In systems where the level-wind disengages, a hot running fish can cause spikes in drag pressure as non-stretch braided lines encounter sharp angles when pulling from one side of the spool when the level-wind may be at the other side of the spool. Bait clickers are standard on all models.
Stainless Steel Gearing
Stainless Steel Main Gear increases ultimate power, durability and strength.
Choose Your Reel
The Komodo SS series includes two sizes, 350 and 450 in both right and left hand retrieve.
Zirconium Guide Inserts
Maximize your reel with Zirconium line guide inserts for use with braided line.
On /Off Clicker
On/Off Clicker allows for trolling, chunking, or bait fishing.

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone brought this rod on to a plane as a carry on? I have a four piece rod that i have always traveled with without an issue |
Answer: | You can use braid with the SST rods but I would not recommend using an SST rod for big swimbaits. The SST rods are salmon / steelhead specific rods which feature light tips. |
Question: | This rod is one or two pc |
Answer: | I didn’t know that they make a 9’ 6” rod. I know that they came in a 8.6 a 10. 6 and a 9. I use a 9. 6. Two peace rod. Because it fits in my car. Most guys like the one peace rod long or shorter, it depends on the individual. One peace are more sensitive in the strike feel. It’s up to the individual person. |
Question: | Anyone have the dimensions for the case that it comes with? Thanks in advance |
Answer: | the SST-C-1062H has a length of 10'6" |
Question: | How many inches is the longest section of pole |
Answer: | If it from normal usage then contact Okuma for warranty. If my accident/mistake then try to repair it. Epoxy it first then rod wrap the area with 2" overlapping on each side. Put flexcoat on it to finish it off. Look more information on flexcoat website or youtube. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Just wondering what reels you all have been putting on the ML-M inshore rod. I see some Cedros 40 and 50. Just want to get the perfect one. Thanks |
Answer: | I use the Cedros 40clf on mine. I have put a 50 on it too. The 40 manages good sized Redfish, Stripers up to 39" and small Mahi Mahi, Lesser Amberjacks, Bonito, Albacore and Yellow Tail. I use food braid and dampen that with flurocarbon leader. Drag is the issue and line test that will not over stress the rods test weight. I believe you will be happy with the combinations. |
Question: | Just wondering what reels you all have been putting on the ML-M inshore rod. I see some Cedros 40 and 50. Just want to get the perfect one. Thanks |
Answer: | I'd go with the 40. I have the quantum Cabo 40 on it and it balances perfectly. Since everyone has different preference, you should just try it on b4 you buy if you want the perfect match. |
Question: | What is the length of the the longest section? I'm thinking about pack-ability. The product description indicates 16" but that does not add up |
Answer: | I have the NTi-S-703ML-M 7' model this the longest of the three sections is 30" and the case is about 32". It does fit well in the overhead compartment on a plane. |
Question: | What do you think is a better fit/balance for this rod? The Cedros 40 or the 55? Thanks |
Answer: | I would go with the Cedros 40, although I use the the Okuma Avenger ABF65. It has been a great combo for me.. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What color is this reel |
Answer: | It tucked into my checked bag just fine on two trips and also had no problems taking it as my personal item onto the plane. Nice rod. Works well. |
Question: | Would this reel be good for trolling for salmon in the mouth of the Columbia River |
Answer: | The Nomad travel rod , NTI-S-703M-MH is a 3 piece rod. |
Question: | How many ball bearings does the 7.3:1 have |
Answer: | Without measuring, I would say 30" long, 4" wide and 2" deep. All Nomad Cases are the same the rods are 3 pieces plus an additional weight tip are place on top by 2s of each other in a zippered and padded case. I typically put these in a checked pull bag. They are padded enough you could check it. I have never tried to carry one on a flight as I doubt it would be permitted. I do have 5 different rods and the casies are identical. The cases are durable and I have had them around 6 years. |
Question: | Can this reel be used for saltwater fishing |
Answer: | All three sections are 28" as they are all of identical length when broken down. |
- Alc: rigid die cast aluminum frame and handle side plate
- Multi-disc, carbonite drag System
- Balanced aluminum handle arm with Ergo grip handle knobs
- Oversized machine cut brass XL drive and pinion gears

User questions & answers
Question: | is it good for freshwater fishing |
Answer: | Yes. My favorite reel for river salmon fishing! |
Question: | What line would be best for trolling for kokanee and how much would fill the okuma coldwater 350 low profile linecounter reel |
Answer: | This is a difficult question to answer, because it depends how you are fishing as well as where you are fishing. On of our top pro-staff in the Pacific Northwest that specializes in Kokanee fishing recommends using 10-12 lbs monofilament for his trolling. Monofilament is recommended, because of the stretch factor which helps with the and Kokanee’s soft mouth. The Coldwater 350 holds 250-yds of 12-lbs monofilament |
Question: | Is this reel used for salmon fishing? What is the differences between 354A and 354D |
Answer: | i used it for lake trout and pike fishing with 30 pound braid line |
Question: | Does the line counter on this reel work for surf casting long distances at high speeds |
Answer: | I would not recommend using a counter reel for long cast applications. The added transmission gears that drive the counter will not allow the reel to freespool as freely as casting reel without a counter. |
