User questions & answers

Question: Does it come with any kind of tub or rod sock
Answer: Probably not, but as with anything used in saltwater, at the end of the day rinse it thoroughly in fresh water and let it dry before storing.
Question: Would saltwater ruin this rod
Answer: Please contact the seller and present your suggestions
Question: If you would lower the shipping to a more reasonable amount I will buy this rod
Answer: not sure what you mean by a cap, maybe a shipping cover, plastic? the top thin end should slide into the lower part of the rod. you should not have to break anything off any part. but maybe if you could twist or slide off the offending "cap." i can only guess it was a protective cover for shipping only. hope it works.
Question: I am afraid ruin my new featherlight but the two pieces won't slide together. There's a small slightly larger cap on the top end. Do I break it off
Answer: Normally you go to the rod manufacture and they have a table for their rods. There are a couple of tables for a lot of rods you can use just as well. This line is sold in gram wts GR-200 to 650. I use 7 wt rods mostly with 475 - 600 GR line depending on how slow the rod's action is. I have really liked these lines.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this have the cherrywood reel seat or is this like the older model
Answer: Yes. This is just a rod. Any rod will need a seperate reel purchased unless you buy a combo.
Question: Do you have to buy your own reel
Answer: 2 piece rods usually split the difference in half or priddy close. I have a standard 2pc rod case & for mine and it fills the case with around 18/22 left in used. So if your asking can you get a standard 4pcs storage/carry then no. Get a 2pcs and you'll be gtg.
Question: If the rod is a 2 piece (yellow, 6-feet 6-inch), 4/5 weight, how long are the 2 pieces if i am ordering and buying a case for it, too
Answer: There are separate pages for different rods. Even though this page at the end says 5/6 weight, go with the first number (in this case, the rod shown on this page is a 3/4) and the length (6'6"). You will not find a 5/6 weight in that length. If you search specifically for the 8 foot or 5 weight Eagle Claw fly rod you'll come to a different page. It also comes in a 7 foot 5 weight which you can order, again, on a separate page. Just go with the first number, the the shorter the length the lighter the length if you're confused.
Question: is this a 3/4 wt or a 5/6 wt
Answer: Nope. Just comes as it is in a clamshell plastic box. Not reusable.

User questions & answers

Question: can I use this rod with my normal fly reel with 5wt line
Answer: Not fit for human consumption.
Question: Is it nsf certified
Answer: The reel does not come lined, so you will need to do so upon receiving (at local sporting goods store). Ergo, yes, you can get spare spools for the reel.
Question: Can i get s spare spool for this reel
Answer: I find it too heavy for my ideal fly rod. I bought this rod as a present for my granddaughter and it is definitely foo heavy for her. I've never used an Eagle Claw featherweight, so I can't give you a comparison. It is quite a bit heavier than my favorite "no name" telescoping fly rod.
Question: How heavy is this rod? Is it about the same as an eagle claw featherlight
Answer: They can be removed but it's bit of work. I just cut them off.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this the FL300-7? Picture is wrong, just wanted to verify
Answer: Neither. Just the rod. You can make a tube out of pvc if needed but I haven't found it necessary.
Question: Does this rod come with any sort of rod tube or sleeve
Answer: Simply “force” it in; don’t trim the rubber. The rubber tip helps keep the top end from spinning once you have gently but deliberately inserted it into the bottom end of the rod.
Question: How to put the rod together? The rubber tip on the second part is big compare to the hole on the first part, do i cut the rubber off or force it in
Answer: Yes the picture in incorrect. I just received the fly rod and it is a good value. The rod has a nice action and it is well made at a great price.
Question: Spinnng rod is shown. I assume that this picture is incorrect
Answer: Of course....that's the weight line I use. This is a great rod....not too whippy but not too stiff either.

Answer: Not sure of the weight, but it is a horrible reel, do not buy it! I sent mine back.
Question: What is the weight of the 3/4 model
Answer: 100. if i recall correctly
Question: I have the Piscifun float 100’ and Piscifun backing, how much backing will this reel take? Thank you
Answer: The reel is sold as reel only. Backing and line need to be added.
Question: Does the reel come with backing and line
Answer: I don't remember for sure (it was a gift), but it fit in the case for an old 4-piece pack rod, so it was in the 18"-24" range. I think it was closer to 18". You might check Eagle Claw's web site.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you put the carrying case over your back, is there a strap to carry it like a back pack
Answer: This case is back pack worthy. I got this because it of its pack size, weight and its ability to be a long 7' pole. I used this for a 12 mile hike one way to a lake in which my son and I stayed for 5 days on a Boy Scout camping trip. He loved the fishing pole and wants one of his own. As for the ability to also pack a reel, no there is not enough room. I kept the reel in the side of the backpack pocket.
Question: Is this case backpacking worthy or should I by another case? Also, will the case that it comes with have room for a reel also
Answer: If you are doing ultra-light backpacking then go with the 6-section, it packs down smaller. The 4 section is actually longer. The 6-section is 7' and the 4-section is 7.5'. The 4-section pack just a little longer than the 6-section.
Question: New to backpacking fishing. I am making the decision between Trailmaster spin-fly rod, 4 sections vs 6 sections. Any help is deeply appreciated
Answer: I don't know exactly because i did not use it for Fly fishing so far... If I i have to choose i would take the 4wt. The rod is very flexible but the blank seems not strong enough for higher wt.
Question: What fly line weigh works best with this rod ? 4wt-5wt-6wt
Answer: about 30 yards. I gave the reel as a gift and he had trouble with the mounting bracket screws stripping out.

Question: this rod breaks in half
Answer: Yes and no, I bought three rods, for my mom, dad and me. There’s still works after catching countless trout. But mine broke the second time I used it. It’s a great cheap rod if you want something cheap price wise
Question: Does it work
Answer: I can’t remember I got it about two years ago for a special fishing trip with my brother who lives in Montana The rod tip broke on the first trout that I hooked The rod had a life time warranty but I found out that I had to pay all shipping and handling charges and I decided not to put that much money into another one Put it in the trash and bought an ugly stick like I should have in the beginning

Question: What's the easiest way to release the line in order to extend this rod? seems like once you loosen the bail all the string will start unwinding
Answer: Get a light, freshwater reel. The Shimano FX Spinning Reel looks like a good affordable option, but I can't say from personal experience. http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-FX1000FB-Spinning-Reel-lb/dp/B0010FC5FW/ref=sr_1_2?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1385568210&sr=1-2&keywords=fishing+reels

User questions & answers

Question: Would like to use as a fly rod... what "weight" is it so I can purchase the correct fly line
Answer: 20" is the longest piece. It has a great action for both small or larger fish. I pack my gear on a motorcycle with a minimum space
Question: Im trying to buy a case. So by using a ruler what is lhe measurement of the longest piece
Answer: This rod is more suited to catch trout and other fresh water fishing. Surf fishing requires heavier tackle. Most fresh water fish of medium size are a lot of fun to catch.
Question: Would this rod be okay for surf fishing with a spinning reel
Answer: I just put the rod together for my son who was going fishing and I put the butt on the ground and held it next to me. I am six feeteven and the rod I think is 7 1/2 feet. It is a bit long for a boat, but I have caught trout in a kayak with this rod. The reason I like it is not only a combo for spinning and or fly fishing, but it has a great feel to it. The tip, as you might expect, is pretty lively, but notenough you cannot control the fish. So far, I have bought three of these rods. I really like the rod overall.
Question: What is the total length of the rod when it is assembled
Answer: This is a spin-cast rod which uses a pushbutton reel. If you are using a spinning reel, it goes on a spinning rod. Some reels have a switch that allows you to unwind without opening the bail or pushing the release button (spincast). That is what I prefer. If not, cup your can over the bail or opening so you can control the release of the line as you extend the rod.
