12 best unknown fly lines
"Unknown fly lines" is not a specific or recognized term in the context of fishing and fly fishing equipment. However, we can provide you with general information about fly lines and their importance in fly fishing:
Fly Lines:
Essential Equipment: Fly lines are a crucial component of a fly fishing setup. They are one of the main elements that help anglers cast flies effectively.
Types: Fly lines come in various types, including floating, sinking, and intermediate lines, each designed for specific fishing conditions and techniques.
Weights: Fly lines are categorized by weight, typically ranging from 1 to 12.The weight of the line should match the weight of the fly rod to ensure proper casting.
Tapers: Fly lines also have different tapers, such as weight-forward (WF), double-taper (DT), and shooting-taper lines. The taper affects casting distance and accuracy.
Materials: Modern fly lines are often made from advanced materials like PVC or polyurethane, which provide durability and performance in different weather conditions.
Color Coding: Fly lines may have color-coded sections to help anglers identify the specific parts of the line, such as the running line, belly, and front taper.
Backing: Fly lines are usually attached to backing, which is a thin, strong line that provides additional length and capacity for fighting fish.
Maintenance: Proper care and cleaning of fly lines are essential for their longevity and performance. Cleaning with mild soap and water and dressing with fly line dressing can help maintain their performance.
In fly fishing, the choice of fly line is critical because it affects casting accuracy, distance, and presentation. Anglers select fly lines based on their target species, fishing conditions, and personal preferences. It's also important to match the fly line with an appropriate fly reel and fly rod to ensure a balanced setup.
When considering fly lines, it's advisable to consult with experienced fly anglers, read product reviews, and visit reputable fishing stores to get recommendations and find the right fly line for your specific fishing needs.

Of the many innovations that Lee Wulff has contributed to fly fishing, the Triangle Taper fly line is perhaps the most popular. Winner of the coveted Kudo award, the triangle taper offers the greatest delicacy of any fly line. The Triangle Taper is a continuous forward taper in the head of the line, the first 27 to 40 feet depending on the application. This provides the most efficient transfer of casting energy as it unrolls because the heavier line is constantly turning over lighter line. This design also gives you a more delicate presentation because the weight is away from the fly. It is also the finest roll casting line for up to 60’ casts. The combination of a long weighted section and a light running line make the triangle taper cast like a shooting head for distance. The tip end can be customized by cutting it back for the desired performance level. The fly line that gives you easy-casting performance for both overhand and close-in roll casting. Renowned for its revolutionary taper design, which promotes efficient energy transfer. You’ll enjoy more delicate presentations in any situation. Available in floating, 90’ length with a 36’-40’ taper and a 54’–50’ running line with welded loop for easy leader attachment. User questions & answers
Question: | What is the sink rate of the 5 wt line |
Answer: | I've had Teeny lines and this is no slapping line. A much slower sink rate and much less weight, I would call it a gentle/shorter sinking line. I used it a super fast flowing Au Sable river in Michigan this past weekend. I may have needed some more weight but I picked up a couple of nice Rainbows sub surface in fast water with weighted streamers and the line behaved well. You will not go deep quickly with this line. More like a light sinking line with plenty of control. I'm taking it to Montana. Let me know if you have additional questions. Bob J. |
Question: | Is this a hard hand slapping line like my Teeny sink line? Thanks |
Answer: | It's like a camouflage line you see the all the color right there goes from light to dark |
Question: | What color is this? I was hoping for gray or black |
Answer: | I got the WF 7WT sinking tip line and it did not have welded factory loops on either end. I did a perfection loop and added a length of 30# mono to it. |
Question: | Does the weighted end have a factory loop for looped leaders |
Answer: | This fly line is made in our owned factory in China. |
