| Answer: | Steel wire leader is not necessary for Cobia fishing. In fact, it’s bad. Steel leader is used for fish that have very sharp teeth that can cut your line. Cobia are line shy fish (afraid of line they can see) and steel leader would work against you. Fluorocarbon is invisible underwater and is the best. I recommend braided line (50-60 lb) with at least 6-10 feet of fluorocarbon (30-40 lb) line for leader. The size of the Cobia your after may change the numbers + or -. Fluorocarbon is more expensive but use it if you’re serious about catching fish. It makes a world of difference. |

Take a piece of the STS and try to break it with an overhand knot to test it before you use it. At #10 my 5 year old could break it with his hands, so I never used it again.. |

| Answer: | I've used it for salmon for the last several years with good success. It came in a larger quantity on the spool at a better price than other options and it seemed to work well. It has good knot strength and abrasion resistance. I'm not sure why it would be specifically designated as "salmon" but it definitely works well for salmon; as well as the other half dozen options I've tried. Maybe the notion that salmon leaders tend to be at least 6 feet long caused them to fill the spools with more leader material and label it for salmon fishers who tend to go through the 25 yard spools with just a dozen leaders instead of 25 that can be tied from the 50 yard spools. |
