14 best youth bows
Youth bows are archery bows designed specifically for younger individuals, typically children and teenagers, who are interested in learning archery or participating in bow-related sports and activities. These bows are crafted with the physical capabilities and needs of young archers in mind, making them suitable for beginners and those looking to develop their archery skills.
Here are some key characteristics and aspects of youth bows:
Size and Weight: Youth bows are generally smaller and lighter than adult bows. This makes them easier for young archers to handle, as they may lack the strength and stature to manage a full-sized bow comfortably.
Draw Length and Weight: Youth bows are designed with adjustable draw lengths and draw weights to accommodate the growth and changing physical abilities of young archers. This adjustability allows the bow to "grow" with the child, eliminating the need to purchase a new bow as they get older.
Safety Features: Many youth bows incorporate safety features such as finger guards and arrow rests to help prevent accidents and ensure a safe archery experience for young archers.
Durability: Youth bows are often constructed from durable materials like fiberglass or composite materials to withstand the wear and tear that may come with learning archery.
Ease of Use: These bows are typically designed to be user-friendly and straightforward, making them suitable for beginners who are just starting to learn archery techniques.
Recreational and Sport Use: Youth bows are used for a variety of purposes, from recreational target shooting to competitive archery in youth leagues and competitions. Some young archers also use youth bows for hunting, depending on local regulations and their experience level.
Accessories: Just like adult bows, youth bows can be customized with accessories like sights, stabilizers, and quivers to enhance accuracy and functionality.
Parental Supervision: It's important for parents and guardians to supervise young archers and ensure they receive proper instruction and guidance in archery safety and technique.
When choosing a youth bow, it's essential to consider the age, size, and strength of the child, as well as their intended use (e.g., target shooting, hunting, competitive archery). Additionally, it's advisable to seek guidance from a knowledgeable archery instructor or a reputable archery shop to select the right youth bow that matches the child's needs and goals in archery.

User questions & answers
Question: | How to adjust to different draw weight |
Answer: | There is no adjustment available, it is fixed. The description of "Draw Weight: 17 to 21 lbs" is just a proclamation that the draw weight of each bow falls somewhere between 17 and 21 lbs. |
Question: | how old would you use this at |
Answer: | My 10 year old daughter can finally draw the bow all the way back. My 8 year old can't. So I would say 10+ If you have a strong kid, maybe younger. |
Question: | Can this be used for hunting |
Answer: | The Elkhorn shoots at ~70 FPS (Feet Per Second). To put this in perspective, a typical "hunting bow" would range from 250-300 FPS with many "fast" bows shooting far faster. This is an great training bow for young kids but that is all. |
Question: | What is the length of the arrows that come with the bow |
Answer: | Where can I buy additional 26" arrows? I can only find 29", will they work? |
- Beginner bow set comes ready to shoot with two Safetyglass arrows and target
- Set also includes finger rollers, armguard, and arrow quiver

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it good for my 13 year old |
Answer: | Without knowing more about the child's size and abilities, I would say that this might be a little small for a teenager, as my 8 year old daughter can handle it rather easily. The Bear Archery Wizard Set, Which is rated for 8-10 years would offer more of a challenge, at a minimal cost increase, but if you think that they are interested enough to stick with it I would recommend, The Bear Crusader set, as it would last them much longer as their strength and skill improve. |
Question: | What length are the arrows |
Answer: | 27" from nock to point, probably 23" draw length. Great beginner set, my 4.5 and 7-year-olds love it! |
Question: | Want to get this for my 9yr old girl. Wondering if its to small or she'll outgrow it too fast? Other choice is Barnett Outdoors Lil Banshee Jr |
Answer: | Yes - this bow will quickly become too small for a 9 year old girl, or will be too small right from the start. Check the bear archery website, the youth bow section. You'd probably be better off getting the 'Wizard', which is the exact same bow but longer. This matters most because of the DRAW LENGTH. This one is very short - only 16" - which means she can only pull back about 16" before the bow "stacks up" or becomes impractical to pull back further. This forces bad form and bad shooting. The difference in price will be near negligible, so go ahead and get the right size, if there is even a small chance that archery will be more than a passing fancy for your daughter. |
Question: | Does it come with finger tab and target? Under description it shows it but under what's in the box it does not |
Answer: | Yes, it comes with the finger tab, a small paper target, and a quiver (but no belt or strap to put the quiver on) |

User questions & answers
Question: | how long are the arrows |
Answer: | Sounds like you're describing the stabilizing weight that screws into the front of the bow OR the rubber arrow pulling grip tool used to pull arrows out of targets that can be hard to pull out. |
Question: | does this bow have the two hole to mount a bowfishing reel to it |
Answer: | There are 3 pieces of accessories that comes with this bow. The stabilizer, the arrow rest and the sight. Take a look at the picture of the product. It is not difficult to figure out how to slab them together. However, it is tricky to center and adjust the arrow rest and to calibrate each pin on the sight. I recommend you to Google it. Also, you may want to buy some nocking points and a bow square to help you install it right. |
Question: | Is it threaded for a stabilizer? I cant tell by the picture, thanks |
Answer: | Need not |
Question: | can you add a bow fishing reel to it |
Answer: | It’s a double bevel |

User questions & answers
Question: | What length Arrows does it come with |
Answer: | Draw weight limbs? I'm not expirenced in this hobby/field, but from what you are asking and I can assume, yes. The bow itself is disassembled when you receive it. The two limbs I am assuming what they are, are able to be assembled. However, you may want to be specific on the size, when you attach a longer length onto this bow, as there's this design to prevent it from moving or slipping to the side, after you screw the nobs in place to hold these two arms. |
Question: | i have never used a bow and arrow do think this will be a good traing bow |
Answer: | Dear Customer, Thank you for your question. usually it is possible to express, but please consult the express company for specific conditions,Just in case. |

Answer: | Haven't had to yet but would go to a Sporting Goods store but, I will check Amazon to check there first. |

Answer: | The Firebird has a higher draw weight of 30-35 lbs. Thanks. |
Question: | How difficult is this bo to string and set up also when I’m not using it do I have to on string the bow |

Question: | I purchased this bow a while back. Got the green one. Can anyone tell me about the grey one |
Answer: | the grey one is grey, if you have the green one & now looking for a better bow i recommend the samick sage recurve, you will be amazed at the improvement, just decide if you step up to 35 or 40lb draw weight. enjoy ! |
Question: | a reviewer said they did not get a string with it. does this bow come with the string |
Answer: | Yes, it does come with a string. Its a good bow but the center guide will fall off and after a while the center hand piece will also start coming off. But trying to do a RMA is of no use. User questions & answers
Question: | Is a bow string included |
Answer: | Yes, it does come with a bow string. |
Question: | What arrows are recommended for this bow |
Answer: | There's a lot that goes into selecting the 'right' arrow (material, spine, length) . However, if you're just using the bow for target practice you can use something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Easton-Vector-Arrows-Feathers-Black/dp/B01N7JOI1G/ref=sr_1_2?crid=4V46ZIG6R513&dchild=1&keywords=easton+arrows+for+recurve+bow&qid=1609189251&sprefix=easton+arrows%2Caps%2C632&sr=8-2 . I let my kids practice with these: https://smile.amazon.com/REEGOX-Beginner-Practice-Removable-Compound/dp/B07CKYT8ZH/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=target+arrows+for+recurve+bow&qid=1609189394&sr=8-6 and they work just fine. |
Question: | Are the limbs the same as the standard samick sage? Could I put a 40# set on the riser |
Answer: | I have a 50# Samick and I bought the wife the junior for the lighter 18-20 #. The limbs are definitely built differently and stronger for the standard Sage so I really don’t think the 40# would work with the junior Sage |
Question: | Is this bow flemish fast flight capable |
Answer: | Yes, it is compatible with Flemish fast flight. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How far can you shoot |
Answer: | I am shooting 1”-2” groups at 40yds with mine. The only upgrade I have made is a smaller peep. Because I have a 30” draw length, a 1/8” peep gives me a more precise eclipse. |
Question: | Does this setup come with a Hand release |
Answer: | No it does not |
Question: | How well does this bow hold up to heavy arrows? 600+ grain |
Answer: | The lower the spine number, the stiffer and more resilient to higher draw weight in lbs. The 600 spine is too flimsy and lighter (corresponding to the spine numbers, the higher this number is, the less workable for high draw weight, as mentioned above) for a bow set to a draw weight higher than 45 to 50lbs. 70 lbs could destroy a higher spine # arrow or make it go snake lining left or right. Don't take my word for it, do the research. That's what I found on YouTube and some websites for archery. |
Question: | The string on my bow broke where can i buy a new one and what size/length |
Answer: | String Length:58.13" Cable Length:33.23" |

User questions & answers
Question: | can it be a hunting bow |
Answer: | I would say yes. There really is very seldom any difference between standard broadheads and "crossbow" broadheads. Usually the difference is in the packaging. (Rage the only difference is the shock collar used) There are screws in these to tighten down the tension on the mechanical blades. You will probably want to add some tension due to the heavy draw weight. |
Question: | It's advertised as a 'youth bow' yet other sites list is as adult. Which is it |

User questions & answers
Question: | If you want to get more arrows what size do I need |
Answer: | Absolutely, I am in my 30's and an avid archer. I shoot this bow with my kids. It's as fun to shoot this bow as it is my $500.00 Hatfield recurve bow. The whole family has fun and a good way to see if someone is interested in archery before spending big dollars on a full size bow. |
Question: | So would this be good for a grandma for a beginner set? Just for a fun thing to do with grandchildren? I'm as short as a child |

Question: | How big is it |
Answer: | Yes, additional arrows are available on Amazon. You can use "B07T1F5KVS", for natural arrows, or "B082TRKQY9", for high visibility arrows, to search for and purchase these arrows. |
Question: | Hello, our order came in but is missing the string for the bow. Would you Please respond and send a new string to attach |
