Answer: | I wanted to accomplish the very same thing when installing the bar. However, the way that doors are framed, the bar would be off-center. The pull up bar would be more or less perpendicular with the door jamb. I thought it would be awkward, so I went ahead and installed it on my garage wall. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was far enough away from the wall for my liking. You could also turn facing away from the mounting hardware to accommodate leg swing. Otherwise, the construction of this product is very solid and I am very happy with my purchase. |
Question: | Has anyone mounted this to finished stud walls? Any damage to the drywall after using this? (I'm not talking about mounting to drywall alone |
Answer: | Hi Mike. Yes, I mounted this unit to the finished walls in my house. First, to answer your question, there is no damage to the drywall associated with the installation. The 4 holes you drill are hidden behind the mounting plates. However, the unit is pretty close to the wall, and I've had some...minor yet unexpected issues from use. First is that it's easy for your feet to strike the wall when doing pull-ups. Once you start exerting yourself, it's easy for your feet to swing around a bit. Avoid wearing shoes and this shouldn't be an issue. Secondly, I've noticed that over time, there are some stains on the wall that I can only assume are coming from sweat or saliva when I'm grunting out the final reps. As for installation, I have a couple tips that I uncovered while installing mine. First, find the center of just one stud. I use a stud finder, but then used a 1/64" drill bit to drill to the left and right, so when I was off the stud on each side, I could split the difference and be sure I was in the exact center. This unit mounts with large lag screws, and if you are not in the middle it could break out during use...anyway, then what you want to do is mount this first unit to the wall, but only tighten up the lag screw just unit the unit holds itself on the wall. Then, mount the pull-up cross bar to the wall mount, just getting it slightly snug. Then, place the second wall mount up and bolt the cross bar to it, finger tight. Using a level, parallel the mounting plates and mark your holes. This is important because there is very little play between the cross bar and the mounts; if you are off by even a little bit, the bolts won't drop into place. By having the cross bar in place and finger tight before you drill your second set of holes solves this. Oh, one last thing. The foam grips are comfortable, but don't hold up well at all if you are using gloves. Be prepared to buy some rubberized grip tape within a few months. All in all, this is a very solid unit for the price, and I'd buy one again. Best, Bill. |

Answer: | This tower is 100% better than a doorway bar. even if you just do pull ups on the tower and leave out the dips, pushup, abs option it's better. i used to have a doorway pull up system but i took a chance buying the tower and i am so happy i did. The sturdiness of the tower was a big concern of mine before i bought because i thought something that was this cheap wouldn't be solid but it is. i don't do those swinging style pullups like the cross fitters do but i think the tower could take them, it would tip over before it would break. the 250lb weight limit is just a precautionary number it will hold a lot more. i do pullups and dips every other day with a 50 lb vest and i weigh 220 and i have had the tower 2-3 months and i have only tightened the bolts a minimal amount one time. |

However, an 8 foot ceiling is 96 inches. Your ceiling is 83 inches, which is actually just shy of 7 feet, not 8. You wouldn't be able to do "normal" pull-ups with a ceiling that low. |

In my opinion, as long as you perform the pull-ups correctly, you shouldn't have to worry about the device slipping or shifting.From my review: One thing to make sure of: Wall thickness! I have walls in an older home that are about 8 inches thick. This pull-up bar only fits walls that are 7 inches at most. I had to look all over the house for someplace where the wall was thin enough to fit this. I eventually found out my walk-in closet (a recent renovation) was thin enough. Now, I have to wallk back to my bedroom closet to exercise. It's not ideal, but it works. Six to seven inches is the ideal range for wall-thickness here. Also, the doorway needs to be between 24 and 40 inches wide and at least a foot away from any wall or corner, otherwise, your pull-up bar will not fit. |

You can work around or fix these things (some people are talking about wrapping it in socks where it meets the doorframe), but there's no reason you should have to rig up a fix for this kind of thing. Answer: | I started to get mold also...then had an epiphany! I had been using my good, filtered water, it's better for everything, right? NO! I switched to the (chlorinated) tap water and haven't had a problem since. I make my own kombucha. I was careful to heed all of the warnings that using unfiltered/chlorinated water will kill the necessary bacteria. I realized that was a GOOD thing with my butter bell. Voila! No more mold! Of course, this was in addition to adding salt to the water (unsalted butter), changing the water at least once a week and other suggestions listed here. |

Answer: | No you don't but you should change the water every 2 to 3 days. I use the butter and then wash the whole keeper and refill with butter and water in the bottom section about 1 inch deep. |

Answer: | Yes, the butter is upside down when closed. When you pack a cube of softened butter into it, it adheres to the sides and bottom of the container. I use a soup spoon to pack it in and eliminate any air pockets. when you place the butter container into the bottom, with @ ¼" of water in it, it creates a vacuum and the butter stays fresh and in place. Kid use, depending upon age, should be no problem as all you do is pull it up out of the container and turn it over. They can easily master gently returning it to the container. |

Answer: | I'm sure over time it may rust. It's painted but if water penetrates the tubes and sits it will probably break down over time. The unit itself is very sturdy!! I have it lag screwed into my ceiling joists and I probably can hoist a car up on it.... lol. Good luck. |

Answer: | I have mine mounted to 2x4 rafters. It feels fine as long as I go straight up and down. I wouldn't trust it if you do much swinging. I would be careful with large kips. |

Answer: | It depends on how you grip the bar and how much you lean while pulling. I have not had an issue with wall contact. I also used a 2 inch thick piece of wood to brace against the wall with gives more space. |

Answer: | Roughly 2.5" between the two bolts that are side by side, about 7" between them top to bottom. |
