11 best fitbit pedometers

Fitbit pedometers are wearable devices designed to track and monitor physical activity, particularly steps taken. They fall under the category of activity fitness trackers and are part of Fitbit's line of products aimed at promoting a healthier and more active lifestyle. Fitbit had a range of pedometers, including:

  1. Fitbit Zip: The Zip was one of Fitbit's earlier models. It was a small, clip-on device that could be attached to clothing. It tracked steps taken, distance traveled, and calories burned. It didn't include features like heart rate monitoring or sleep tracking.

  2. Fitbit One: Similar to the Zip, the One was a clip-on tracker that measured steps, distance, calories burned, and included an altimeter for tracking elevation changes. It also had additional features like sleep tracking and silent alarms.

  3. Fitbit Inspire Series: This series included the Fitbit Inspire and Inspire HR. While they were more than just pedometers, they did include step tracking as one of their primary features. The Inspire HR also included heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking.

  4. Fitbit Flex Series: The Flex series included models like Flex and Flex 2. These were wristband-style trackers that focused on step tracking, distance, calories burned, and sleep tracking.

  5. Fitbit Force (discontinued): The Force was an earlier model that offered step tracking, sleep tracking, and could display the time. However, it was eventually discontinued.

These pedometers work by using an accelerometer to detect motion. When you walk or engage in physical activity, the device senses the movement and counts the steps. Some models also include altimeters to track elevation changes.

All Fitbit pedometers are designed to sync with the Fitbit app on your smartphone or tablet. This allows you to view detailed statistics, set fitness goals, and analyze your progress over time. They also often come with a social component, allowing you to compete with friends or join challenges to stay motivated.

Remember, this information is based on my knowledge as of 2023. If there have been any updates or new releases after that date, we would not be aware of them.

Fitbit One Wireless Activity Plus Sleep Tracker, Burgundy

Fitbit

Based on 13 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Fitness means being active, sleeping well, and eating smarter – and the Fitbit One helps you do all three. During the day, it tracks your steps, distance, calories burned, and stairs climbed. Come nightfall, it measures your sleep cycle to help you see how to sleep better; and it can even wake you in the morning without waking your partner. Your stats upload wirelessly via computer or select mobile devices (like the iPhone 4S). Powered by your stats, you can set goals, and track progress. Stay motivated by earning badges or connecting with friends for support or friendly competitions. Log food, work-outs and more. Bring greater fitness into your life – seamlessly, socially, 24 hours a day.

From the Manufacturer

Keep it Clean: Regularly clean your band and wrist—especially after working out or sweating. Rinse the band with water or wipe it with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Do NOT use hand soap, body soap, dish soap, hand sanitizers, cleaning wipes or household cleaners which could get trapped beneath the band and irritate skin. Always dry the band well before putting it back on. Keep it Dry: While Fitbit devices are water resistant*, it’s not good for your skin to wear a wet band for long periods of time. If your elastomer band gets wet—like after sweating or showering—rinse and dry it thoroughly before putting it back on your wrist. Be sure your skin is dry before you put your band back on. Don’t Wear It Too Tight: Make sure your band isn’t too tight. Wear the band loosely enough that it can move back and forth on your wrist. If you use Fitbit products with Purepulse Heart Rate tracking, for better heart rate readings during exercise, we suggest wearing the band so it’s secure, but not too tight, and wearing the band higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). Lower the band on your wrist and loosen it after exercise. Give Your Wrist a Rest: Prolonged rubbing and pressure may irritate the skin, so give your wrist a break by removing the band for an hour after extended wear.

Buying Guide

Move it up: Since blood increases further up your arm, wear your tracker higher on your wrist to improve the heart rate signal during workouts. Start by moving the device up to three finger widths above your wrist bone, then experiment with slightly lower placement. Keep it secure: The less your tracker moves during exercise, the more chance you have of maintaining a heart rate signal throughout the activity. Do not wear the band too tightly, as this can restrict blood flow and goes against our wear and care guidelines. Hold steady for ten seconds: High intensity exercises or activities that cause you to keep your wrist bent (like push-ups) or move your arms vigorously (like dance) may interfere with heart rate signals. If you stop seeing a signal during these types of activities, hold your wrist steady for ten seconds during breaks to get your reading.

  • One syncs automatically and wirelessly to tablets, computers and 150+ leading iOS, Android and Windows smartphones using Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology. Syncing to computers requires Internet connection and USB port. Syncing to mobile devices requires Bluetooth and Internet connection. Syncing range: 20 feet. Call notifications via Bluetooth 4.0
  • Water Resistance: Charge has been tested up to 1 ATM meaning it is sweat, rain and splash proof. However, the device is not swim proof. We also recommend taking Charge off before showering because, as with any wearable device, it’s best for your skin if the band stays dry and clean.
  • Warning: Do not use if you have a pacemaker or other internal, or implanted medical device. Not intended for use by children under 13. Always consult your physician. Slippery when wet
  • We recommend charging your device every few days to ensure you are always tracking. Charge time: One to two hours. Battery life: up to 7 - 10 days. Battery type: Lithium-polymer
  • Syncs with Windows Vista and later, Mac OS X 10.6 and up, iPhone 4S and later, iPad 3 gen. and later, and leading Android and Windows devices

User questions & answers

Question: I wear dresses alot - what are the recommended options to wear this
Answer: They make more feminine colored bands and even the black one isn't that obtrusive. If you don't want to wear anything on your wrist I would definitely look at the FitBit One where you can place it on undergarments under your clothes. Im pretty sure the flex has to be placed on your arm just because it is calibrated for arm movement only.
Question: calorie counter
Answer: If you are asking if the Fitbit has a calorie counter, the answer is yes. When you set up your fitbit, you create an account on their website. One of the features of that website is the ability to track your food intake. I personally did not care for the fitbit food database so I use myfitnesspal.com and the associated app on my phone to log my food intake. The food database on Myfitnesspal works much better than any other food database I have tried. The nice thing is that you can track your food intake in Myfitnesspal and have it set up so that it pushes your calorie counts over to the fitbit website. The synching has been flawless and instantaneous. I'm very impressed by how well these two sites work together. So, yes, you can track calories using the fitbit site, but some other sites will integrate with fitbit so you are not locked in to using their system. Hope that answers your question.
Question: What should I consider when choosing btwn One and Flex? Is there a difference in function? I don't understand why Flex has a low rating
Answer: There is a significant difference in function between One and Flex. One measures steps, miles, floors climbed (stairs), calories burned (based on steps I think), and time of day. All of this is displayed on the front of the device at the press of a button. You can also monitor your sleep. You get an average of 7-10 days out of the battery: I charge mine once a week and it is usually not even down by 50%. Flex collects data on everything listed for One except it does not count floors (stairs) climbed. None of the data collected displays on the device; to access data you have to log in to your Fitbit account or download an app to your phone and pull it up and synch it. Flex has a battery life of approximately 5 days (I did get 7 out of mine once). Flex is supposed to be waterproof, or at least water resistant. I have not tested this so I don't konw what level of immersion it will tolerate; the times water has gotten between my wrist and the device it gets into the opening on the underside of the band where the data device sits and it doesn't dry out until you remove the device. In my personal experience Flex does not count steps as accurately as One, even if you do the stride length and is less accurate with non-running/walking activities such as bicycling. I also find Flex undercounts steps on the treadmill more than regular walking, regardless of whether or not you move your arm. I think the low rating of Flex is related to it being priced the same as One and Ultra but it does not offer the same features, level of technology, or accuracy. Each generation of Fitbit devices have shown improvement in features and technology until Flex. Flex actually has fewer features but is priced the same. I am sure there is a niche in the market for Flex but biggest bang for your buck is with One, and I say this as someone who has both.
Question: what comes in the package
Answer: Our box contained: Fitbit One, Dongle, Charger, Silicone Case, and Sleep wristband. I didn't read anywhere in the description that the silicone case or sleep band were included, and since those items were listed as suggested items to complement my purchase for a packaged price, I purchased the package. Didn't really need to after all. Hubby tore open the packages we realized we didn't need the extra items, so I guess we will keep them in case the sticky on the wristband wears out
Question: Will this fit the 5 inch DA machine
Answer: No you have to also have the 3inch machine
Question: Can the backing plate be mountain on other mini polishers like the Adam's swirl killer mini
Answer: I don't have any Adam's tools, so I can't definitively say. I put it on a Griot's 3" for tighter areas. My guess would be that the threading for mostly all DA's is standard. If not, Amazon is an easy return...
Question: Can this be used on the griots 6 inch da
Answer: No only 3 inch
Question: will this plate work on another brand of polisher besides a griots polisher
Answer: Not to sure call Griots’s customer service they will be happy to answer?

User questions & answers

Question: Can you read text messages on this
Answer: This product has not been released yet. The scheduled release is mid- October. I have the original and the 2 now, both of them permit text message reads with limited characters. You may not see the entire message. Call FitBit to confirm or send them an email, customer service is awesome.
Question: should these be turned off when driving in a car? I made a 24 mile trip in my car and it showed i walked 1 mile and burnt 2000 calories and 10 stairs
Answer: When I cut grass wearing my Fitbit registers at least 30 percent more steps because the handle of the lawn mower vibrates. It's more accurate when I put the watch in my pocket. Doing this when you drive won't solve the problem with climbing stairs but I noticed that my heart rate is higher when I'm driving. The basal metabolic rate calculated from your age, weight, height, and gender make up half of this calculation. Your heart rate and steps taken are used to calculate the other half of this number so putting your Fitbit in your pocket will help to lower your calorie burn.
Question: Does the Charge 3 have a countdown timer in addition to the Stopwatch feature
Answer: It has a countdown timer, but you have to select from a scrolling list of times in increments of 15 seconds. It goes up to 60 minutes. So if you want to set a 30 minute timer, you have to scroll through until you can select 30 minutes. I just tried it and to get to 30 minutes, it required 16 swipes.
Question: Anybody knows if the bands from the fitbit charge 2 can be used on this one
Answer: I have a 3 and my wife has a 2. She needed a new band and I had an extra band for my 3. I installed my 3 band on her 2 without any issues. Works well.

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone compared the accuracy of the heart rate monitor to the Polar heart rate monitors
Answer: If your wrist is 6.5 inches or larger you will definitely want to get the large. If your wrist is smaller than 6.5 you will definitely want the small. Accidentally grabbed a large but thought it would be no big deal since I was at 6.4 but no, definitely needed a small.
Question: I'm a female with a wrist measuring 6.5 inches. The small goes up to 6.7. Large starts at 6.3. Any suggestions on which would be better
Answer: Like many others, I had hoped to replace a Polar chest strap and wrist heart monitor (which I used for several years) with a single wristband heart monitor device. Having monitored my heart rate (often daily) and (almost always) during exercise with my Polar, during many different activities and on many different exercise machines that display heart rate, I agree with those who have found that the Fitbit heart rate monitor is accurately only up to about 120 bpm. It cannot accurately measure higher rates during intervals, especially quick changes in heart rate. I know that during an interval when I go all out (whatever the exercise) my heart rate goes up to 150-160. But my Fitbit Charge HR has never shown bpm higher than 130. And often during intense exercise (even just on an elliptical machine or a stationary bike or a stairmaster), it just shows dashes and is not measuring my heart rate at all. Extremely disappointing, and I will go back to using a chest strap when I want accurate heart rate info.
Question: Has anyone compared it to a chest strap heart rate monitor to check for accuracy? That is primarily what I want this for
Answer: I had a orange one and after like a day of wearing it the edges got back. So I just emailed Fitbit and they sent a black one. If anyone would ask me what color to get I would say black or a dark color
Question: what's difference between new orange color and old black one
Answer: No, the connector appears to be one piece.

User questions & answers

Question: Which size is this? Large or small
Answer: My purchase included 2 sizes, one for smaller wrists and one for larger wrists. I use the larger one and its got a number of holes to line up with the pins that hold it in place. The biggest problem is getting the pins through the holes. I've resorted to having my wife help me as it's very difficult to put on. I'd recommend looking at a different brand like the jawbone (I think that's the name). A friend has it and has no problem getting it on or keeping it on. Bottom line, the fitbit flex wrist band is a terrible design.
Question: so is this advert for a small or large? how do we get the right size, i see no option on this page
Answer: Each fitbit tracker comes with two wristbands: small and large. The combination of two should fit most wrists. Here are sizes from the fitbit site: "The small wristband will fit a wrist between 5.5 - 6.9 inches (or 140 - 176 mm). The large wristband will fit a wrist between 6.3 - 8.2 inches (or 161-209 mm). Both wristbands are .06 inches (or 13.99 mm) wide." http://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/What-colors-and-sizes-does-Fitbit-Flex-come-in
Question: I do not have a cell phone or ipad. Can you get results on a regular computer
Answer: Yes you can connect to a regular computer via the usb dongle. It allows you to recharge and also sync. It can be much easier to read and set up your preferences on the computer vs. a phone or ipad.
Question: I am a 63 yr old female who has had back surgery and hip replacement, I am looking for something that will help me stay active and monitor my sleeping patterns. I am fairly tech savvy but would like to keep it simple. which would you recommend between the UP & fitbit
Answer: I am a 66 yr old female with similar body problems and quite tech saavy. I love my Fitbit Flex although I've learned (1) it will count stuff like sweeping (or applauding!) as steps taken; and (2) I switch back and forth between Normal and Sensitive sleep modes to get a better sense of how I actually sleep. My main complaint is with the lack of Customer Care from the company itself. There are a fair number of devices that aren't supported by Fitbit, and several of mine are in that category. Fitbit seems to be marketing to the Apple crowd, rather than to serious PC users.

User questions & answers

Question: will the fit bit ace show how many steps you have taken on the display
Answer: Yes, you can customize what the screen shows, both the format and content. The screen on my daughters Fitbit Ace is exactly the same as my Fitbit Alta. We have it show: the time, current steps of the day and minutes being active (exercising or running instead of just walking to the kitchen) and something else I think.
Question: Does this have an alarm on it
Answer: You can set silent alarms. Which will then vibrate on the child’s wrist to wake them up or to signal the alarm going off.
Question: Will the Fitbit Ace display the time
Answer: Yes it displays time
Question: Is charger included
Answer: Yes, it includes a charger. But it is a USB charger so you will still need an adaptor to plug into the wall outlook.

Designed with simplicity and ease of use for everyone that wants an accurate Step Counting 3D Pedometer. No Bluetooth, downloads or smartphone connections required. With it's simple single step counting function you can view your step record on the move.

For the best accurate step count and to avoid counting sudden movements as steps, the 3DFitBud Simple Step Counter will not count any movement that is less than 10 consecutive steps. Once you have walked 10 consecutive steps the step counter will then begin counting 11, 12, 13... . To ensure accuracy, the 3DFitBud is best used for continuous and consistent walking and is not recommended for use with walking aids.

When the 3DFitBud Simple Step Counter has counted your steps for the day simply press and hold the reset button on the back to zero the steps ready for your next activity. (The reset button is located on the back to prevent accidentally zeroing your step count.)

User questions & answers

Question: Does this clasp fit Flex
Answer: No
Question: Is this made of metal or plastic
Answer: Interesting divergence of opinions has made me reconsider mine. It DOES sound like metal, as Vikram says. Now that I have bothered to take it out of the band, it feels probably heavier than plastic. It has a softer feel than metal, which may be the matte metal finish that Adam mentioned.
Question: work with force
Answer: I don't see why it would not.
