Answer:	I would say it will only work on round tubes. An oval tube would require shims, but there might not be enough working room inside the clamping arms to apply shims---it depends on the "diameter" of the oval tube. The curved clamping arms are made of thick aluminum, so bending them to fit an oval shape would be very diffcult and might break them. The only other solution is to file the oval stem into a round shape, which might be "sacreligious." This problem is another argument for the standardization of bicycle parts.
