14 best transom tie downs
Transom tie-downs are essential accessories used in boating to secure a boat to its trailer during transportation. The transom is the stern or rear of the boat, and these tie-downs play a crucial role in ensuring that the boat remains securely attached to the trailer, preventing any movement or shifting during transit. This is particularly important for safety reasons, as well as to protect the boat from potential damage.
Key features and aspects of transom tie-downs include:
Material and Construction: Transom tie-downs are typically made of durable materials such as high-strength nylon or polyester webbing. The construction is designed to withstand the various stresses and tensions encountered during transportation.
Ratchet Mechanism: Many transom tie-downs come equipped with a ratcheting mechanism that allows for easy tightening and secure fastening. This feature provides a strong and reliable hold on the boat.
Hooks or Buckles: Transom tie-downs usually have hooks or buckles on one end that attach to specific points on the boat's transom. The other end is secured to anchor points on the boat trailer.
Adjustability: Some tie-downs are adjustable in length, allowing them to accommodate different boat sizes and trailer configurations. This flexibility ensures a snug fit for various vessels.
Compliance with Regulations: In some regions, there are regulations and guidelines regarding the use of tie-downs during boat transportation. It's important to choose tie-downs that meet or exceed these standards to ensure legal compliance and safety.
Ease of Use: The design of transom tie-downs aims to be user-friendly, enabling boat owners to easily and quickly secure their boats to the trailer.
Weather Resistance: Given that boats are often exposed to the elements during transportation, transom tie-downs are often designed to be weather-resistant and durable, ensuring they can withstand various environmental conditions.
Proper use of transom tie-downs is crucial for safe and secure boat transport. Before embarking on a journey, boat owners should inspect the tie-downs for any signs of wear or damage and ensure they are correctly and tightly fastened to prevent accidents or damage to the boat. Regular maintenance and replacement of tie-downs as needed are important aspects of responsible boating.

Answer: | Under the description the ratchet is rated at over 8000lbs and over 2000lb strap breakage. |
Question: | I have a 5100 lbs boat on my trailer, will these be enough of a load hold? Plus the ears on the trailer are vertical so the will mount sideways ? Tha |
Answer: | Yes to both questions mine are mounted at a 45 degree angle with no problem..your main thing to watch out for. Is your mounting point needs to be flush or even stick out past the transom..you dont want the strap to come out from under the boat and rub on the bottom edge of the boat. |
Question: | Where are they made |
Answer: | The package clearly states make in China... I wish I new this sooner. |
Question: | What is the retracted length |
Answer: | It's states right here next to the picture that they are 2x43"!! Retracted they measure about 3 to 4 inches!! My biggest problem with them is that the spring that retracts them doesn't last long, about several weeks depending on how times you immerse them in water. I am on my third set!!! I only know this because the first set, I took apart, and the spring was rusted. The second set lasted a little longer because I sprayed silicone spray in the spring compartment. Make sure you oil these frequently!!! Good luck and hope this helps!!! |
