| Answer: | In the NE you do not want to leave a buoy out in the winter as the ice will pick it (and your mooring) up and carry it away. Ice is powerful, and unless you are on a small pond you will have problems. If you want to mark a mooring, just tie some floating rope (polypropylene, not nylon) to your chain with enough slack to float on the surface. The ice will not catch the end of the rope and it will pull through during ice-out. |
