Answer:	No. I've had my nephew's hang from it with no damage. They probably weighed about 180 lbs at the time. Just make sure the backboard will secure your weight.

Answer:	There is a bolt that comes from under the middle of the top plate. it has a spring followed by a washer and a nut. The assembly is hidden by the front plate so it not visible. When you hang from the rim, the spring absorbs the tension. I've owned this rim for many years and it's held up very well.
