10 best longboard wheels
Longboard wheels are a crucial component of a longboard, a type of skateboard designed for long-distance cruising, commuting, and downhill racing. These wheels are distinct from traditional skateboard wheels in terms of size, shape, and durometer, the measure of hardness.
Key aspects of longboard wheels include:
Size: Longboard wheels are typically larger in diameter compared to standard skateboard wheels. Common sizes range from 65mm to 75mm or more. The larger size allows for a smoother ride over various surfaces, and they maintain momentum better.
Shape: Longboard wheels often have a rounded edge and a wider contact patch compared to the sharp, narrow edges of traditional skateboard wheels. This shape provides stability, grip, and a smoother ride, making them suitable for long-distance riding and downhill speeds.
Durometer: The durometer measures the hardness of the wheel, typically rated on a scale from 78a to 90a or higher. A lower durometer (e.g., 78a) indicates a softer wheel, providing better grip and a smoother ride over rough surfaces. A higher durometer (e.g., 90a) means a harder wheel, offering more speed but less grip.
Core: The core of the wheel can be either offset, centerset, or sideset. The positioning of the core affects the wheel's behavior, including traction, slide characteristics, and grip during turns.
Material: Longboard wheels are commonly made of polyurethane, a durable and flexible material that absorbs shocks and vibrations. Different formulations of polyurethane yield varying levels of grip, durability, and slide characteristics.
Lip Profile: The lip profile of the wheel refers to the shape of the edge. It can be sharp, rounded, or beveled. The profile affects how the wheel grips and how easily it breaks into slides.
Purpose: Longboard wheels serve different purposes, such as cruising, carving, downhill racing, sliding, or freeriding. The choice of wheel depends on the rider's preferences and intended style of riding.
Color and Aesthetics: Longboard wheels come in various colors and designs, allowing riders to personalize their boards and express their style.
Choosing the right longboard wheels depends on the rider's preferences, riding style, and the terrain they plan to ride on. Riders often experiment with different wheel sizes, durometers, and shapes to find the optimal setup for their desired riding experience.

Question: | I am buying a board for my 8 year old but want wider wheels for a safer ride. Can I put these on any size board |
Answer: | Just got mine today 8-19-14 NOT the labrynth seal for mine. Ordered them through TGM Skateboards on Amazon since they were the same price but no sales tax & still free shipping, which saved me $8 over oergering direct from Amazon. Maybe through Amazon you'd get the Labrynth seals. I'm sure they're still awesome, but a bit disappointed. Oh well. |
Question: | can these be used for roller skates |
Answer: | Not familiar with those specific wheels, but these fit standard skateboard as well as inline skate wheels (I use them on my Reebok inline hockey skates). |
Question: | Are these offset or centerset |
Answer: | Wayne. It really depends on how hard you spin the spinner and the type of spinner you are using. Our recommendation to customers is to use ceramic bearings in spinners. Good news is our fidget spinner bearings are being release this week on Amazon so please check back on Wednesday for them and they will for certain spin even longer. |

Question: | How would these do on wet pavement/surfaces |
Answer: | They have a lot more traction than normal longboard wheels on wet surfaces, but they are still urethane, and will slip/slide if the surface is wet/slick enough. |
Question: | How do these compare to Shark Wheels |
Answer: | I'm not sure about shark wheels... but these wheels definitely have a lot of traction… If your main focus is on street riding I wouldn't really recommend them unless it is a beginner rider and your roads are uneven otherwise it just slows down your ride. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can i use them in a sector nine longboard that has 74mm wheels |
Answer: | Hi Martina, Thank you for your interest with Orangatang Wheels. Yes, these will work with your Sector 9. Smaller wheels (70mm Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns. Thanks, David |
Question: | The original wheels on my board are 50mm wide, so would these fit my board being 3mm longer |
Answer: | Yes, they will fit as long as the diameter of the wheel isn't so great as to cause wheel bite on your board. Also, these have an off-set hub instead of a center hub so the create a little wider footprint from the outside edge of one wheel to the outside edge of the opposite wheel. This gives a little added stability. |
Question: | Can this fit my penny board 27 inch board ? board |
Answer: | Probably, but they will be big for that board and limit your turning due to their size. I would recommend checking out Orangatang Fat Free instead. These are 65mm and will fit better. Thanks, David -- Stoked Ride Shop (310) 462-9991 |
Question: | Anyone compare the 77a vs. 80a on bumpy roads/parking lots? my db has cloud ride 78a. new deck debating between the 77a and the 80a. thoughts |
Answer: | Ok so I have directly compared the blue 77a 4Pres against the yellow 86a stimulus wheels. Riding in a new neighborhood with construction being done in it so it’s rocky, dusty, gravel, just a mix; AND I’m riding in the Texas heat. Blue wheels will bounce off of a lot of rubble and with the added grip it slides perfectly with decent speed and a little dust, but it can grip too much sometimes if you don’t go 100% on your slide. As for durability it is totally shredding up fast, the edges are almost completely round and the skin is gone after about a week, so am considering going up to an orange 80a for that reason. Brand new they are literal clouds that stick to the road. |
