Answer:	I only open the vents if the bread is still warm when I put it in. I think the bread keeper would be better without this feature as I seldom use it. The knob that turns this vent does not lock and so it tends to move on its own whenever you handle the bread keeper. It seems to be open when I don't want it opened a lot.

Answer:	Yes. They are glued in but can be removed with a little effort. Pry up the back and work your hand under them to brake the contact cement loose.
