Answer:	I believe they now make a model with a fully straight edge, but this model has a partially serrated edge. It's different than normal partially serrated blades, though, in that the serrations are near the tip of the blade rather than the base. This allows you to still choke up and use the smooth portion of the blade for whittling and whatnot, but have the serrations on the rest of the blade for rougher cutting.

Answer:	Something probably got sucked into the motor. Check and see if you have all filters in place. Especially the small round foam filter. Easily gets thrown away when emptying canister. Sorry this might not help you fix it unless you can find a way to open it up. But you'll know for next time.
