NOT "rubber" - is made from "Croslite foam" from an EVA polymer - does NOT smell like tires :o), but water won't hurt them. However, they may not grip like you want, use careful footing first time out to get a feel. My old Crocs were slick in the rain if it was cold out and/or if the sole was worn flatter. I wore them a long time. :o) (The Crocs I have purchased have little to no smell, sometimes a weird sweet smell when new).
