The GORE-TEX Membrane

The core of all GORE-TEX garments is an extremely thin, waterproof, breathable and windproof membrane. Our specially designed GORE-TEX membrane contains over 1.4 billion micro pores per square centimetre that are each 20,000 times smaller than a single drop of water. It is because each of these pores are so small that the GORE-TEX membrane is impenetrable to water and therefore, completely waterproof. Protecting you from outside elements is not the only advantage GORE-TEX membrane has to offer; the pores of GORE-TEX membrane are made 700 times bigger than a water vapour molecule, resulting in a breathable material that allows moisture and perspiration to escape so that you stay dry on the outside and inside.

The GORE-TEX Laminate

To be able to use the GORE-TEX membrane in one of our products, it first needs to be firmly connected to a high performance inner and outer layer which is what we call a laminate. To make the finished product truly waterproof it needs to have sealed seams. Every stitch in a seam poses a potential breach of the seal which is why we use GORE-SEAM tape to ensure that water does not penetrate the seam. Every seam in garments, shoes and gloves with GORE-TEX laminates is sealed with a Gore patented machine by specially trained manufacturers in certified factories.
