Answer:	The EOL timer just tells you that the unit is old and may not continue to work properly. Mine just started chirping twice. I thought it was the battery, replaced it and it kept chirping twice every few minutes. The manufacturer seems to have incorporated an EOL timer in circuit board of the unit. Mine was six years old, so, it's right on time, but there is no way to reset it. It becomes a mere paper weight with questionable recyclability.

Answer:	AA are 1.5V and ~2600 mAh. 9V typically have ~500 mAh. This means 2 AA have ~7.8 joules of energy and a 9V has ~4.5. So 2AA should last longer if the power consumption is the same. Of course the quality of battery varies but for starters at least.

Answer:	This CO Alarm operates on a single 9V battery rather than 2AA batteries. Both versions have the same model number, CO400, which seems to be the source of the confusion. As of today, 1/14/2018, Amazon sells the 9V for $18.23 and the 2AA for $19.86 with only 13 in stock. While the State Fire Marshall lists the CO400 as approved, if you follow the link "See Listing Service", you will see that only the 2AA version of the CO400 is approved. That's why the 9V version cannot ship to California.
