Question:	I've always used a carabiner. The figure 8 looks straightforward enough. but what is the purpose of those ears
Answer:	It is NOT steel - it's not magnetic. I'm guessing Aluminum, based on weight. The exterior is coated, and if aluminum, it is likely an anodized coating.
Question:	Is this brand made in USA
Answer:	It’s not a weight limit, it’s a force limit, 40kn, so if you aren’t falling on it, it’s an absurd amount of weight, if you are falling, you’d need to do a calculation with your MASS, not weight, and use the rate of acceleration for gravity (roughly 9.8 meters per second per second) and the height of the fall to determine kn.
Question:	Is this made of steel
Answer:	It is made of 304 Stainless Steel in Taiwan, not China. We've never had one returned or notified of any defects, or problems with quality....Pete

Answer:	Just grabbed mine to measure for you. Top to bottom 6 5/8. ear to ear 6 5/8. Will feed a double 1/2" kernmantle rope.
