Answer:	I wouldn't use the back of a pocket knife. It could close on you at the wrong time. OUCH! Some still advocate using a knife's blade as a striker. A little tough on the blade but an effective striker, nonetheless. If I only had a pocket knife, I'd use its (sharp side of the) blade as a striker. Ideally, you'd have and would use the back of a fixed blade knife or a dedicated (store bought or home made) striker. This striker is drilled. Attach a lanyard & a small striker & it'll always be ready to go.

Answer:	I could be wrong but I think you might be having a problem with smooth pressure if you use a knife with a sharp spine you will have more leverage to apply the pressure I don't think any ferro rod has a solid steel bar inside they all should spark all the way through some are softer than others though and I think the softer ones have more magnesium this one is hard

Answer:	Don't know what an art knife is but THE BEST thing i have found to use for a striker is a 3 inch piece of either a hack saw blade or sawzall blade, use the edge of the SMOOTH side of the blade at a slight angle (press against it hard). practice with it you'll get it,, and it will shower sparks !!!

Answer:	Corn can make deer and mule deer very sick. It upsets the PH of their system and will not allow them to absorb nutrients. Try Monster Meal or Purina Antler Max instead - both are good for makes and females and young deer too. I’m in CA and we support a herd of mule deer and mistakenly tried corn and it was a huge mistake. Made a female lose her fur. Monster Meal is a sold buy and it lasts a long time.

Answer:	The smallest Bayite Rod I've used is the 4"x3/8" and it produced about 50% of the sparks of the larger rods. In a pinch, the extra $5 for the 5" or 6"X1/2" unit is probably the best $5 I'll ever spend. It's also the reason I hunt with a 12 gauge instead of a .410.

Answer:	Water has NO effect on the rod itself, other than causing the exposed material under the black protective coating to corrode and dissolve if left wet for a very prolonged period. Really no different than regular metal rusting over time if not protected with oil/paint/etc. The beauty of ferro rods is that they work in ANY condition; subzero temperatures, torrential rain, high altitude, etc. However, your tinder must be dry and properly prepared for it to ignite from the sparks of the rod. If you're in a marine environment or a place with high humidity, you can simply use a light coating of spray paint on your rod after use to prevent corrosion. On your next use, simply scrape through the paint to expose the bare metal, and then scrape your sparks as usual.

Question:	Is this product actually made in Germany or is it a Chinese product disguised by a German name
Answer:	Ferrocerium does not require a particular edge material to strike sparks. That is a myth. Anything harder than the ferro rod will throw sparks. Just look on YouTube for 'strike ferrocerium with glass' and you'll get several examples of ferro rods successfully striking sparks with glass, stone and ceramic. Also, as has been said, NEVER use the cutting edge of a knife to strike sparks off a ferro rod.

Our ferrocerium rod is made from mischmetal, an alloy that produces sparks when strike. It

requires no flints, lighter fluid, batteries or replacement parts. They never have to

be re-supplied and they don’t jam, get damp, or fail like matches and butane lighters.



Usage Directions



√ Remove the coating, the ferro rod comes with a paint of coating that prevents oxidation

√Prepare effective tinder, such as cotton balls, jute twine, sisal fiber, very fine organic fibers,

dry grass and tissue etc.

√ Scrape some ferro powder on tinder, use the serrated end of the scraper, angle the scraper

at about 45-degree angle. Place the end of the rod right next to the tinder, place the scraper on

top of the rod and drag the rod back. If you whittle the scraper, you may bump your tinder away

from the sparks.

√ Put it in a ziplock bag after you use it so the moisture doesn't get to it.

Question:	What functions does the multi function striker have
Answer:	Perhaps they have reduced the number of rods in an order from 10 to 8 and did not change the photo. That's all I can think of.

Answer:	Sometimes there is a coating on them. I take mine to a wheel grinder and knock off some of the black. I also take a piece of sawzall blade, wrap some duct tape around 1 end and use that. Worked on every rod I have and I have a bunch of makes and sizes.
Question:	Do you get 1 orange and 1 black one for a total of 2 in the package? What is the difference between the orange and black one
Answer:	3 inches. Drill a hole in a wooden dowel. Crazy Glue the ferro rod into the dowel. Then drill a hole at the far end of the dowel and run a piece of 550 paracord through it to hang it around your neck.

Answer:	No I use the spine of my knife but you can make a scraper out of a lot of things..... these are awesome rods and well worth the money

Answer:	I remove ALL the coating on my Ferris rods. Usually with sandpaper or similar. The the next thing to consider is what your striking it with. The spine of a knife works awesome, as long as it’s sharp. A broken piece of hacksaw blade, or similar. I’ve never had a ferro rod not work. I buy these all the time to teach wilderness classes. They work just fine after the learning curve.... hoot this helps

How to use

1. Scrape away the coating to expose shiny metal before first use.
2. Hold the ferro rod close to the tinder at about a 45-degree angle. Place the scraper near the top of the rod.

Answer:	I have the Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter Knife and it fits the loop in the leather sheath perfectly.
Question:	What's the use of collapsible pocket fire bellow in this kit
Answer:	My personal Zünden fits perfectly in my Morakniv Bushcraft sheath. 5/16" should fit nicely in most sheaths. :) You can even swap out the included cord for some shock cord, to loop-lock the rod in place.

Answer:	They don't say so... they're not so proud. So likely China. If it were Germany, USA, Finland, etc., they'd prominently label where it was made. Sad, they got me. I assumed Germany. I would have been happy if it was USA. China? No, if I knew I was getting a product from China I'd looked for something cheaper. The product is good, the marketing not so good. Educated in USA, used USA advantages paid for by tax payers but when given a chance to give back by creating USA jobs... nope, they create Chinese jobs. Pure greed.
