Note: this gets the water warm enough for a shower, but not "super hot" for sanitizing. (Of course out in the desert it may get hotter.) |

| Answer: | I wouldn't recommend it unless the manufacturer confirms that the pump has an internal pressure relief arrangement. It looks to be a diaphragm type positive displacement pump, similar to an aquarium air pump, working via a solenoid-operated piston moving a diaphragm back and forth. The diaphragm forms part of a chamber, which increases and decreases in size as the piston moves. There would be a non-return valve (probably a spring-assisted ball check valve) on both the chamber inlet and the chamber outlet. The diaphragm pump design allows complete separation of the working machinery from the pumped fluid, and they are generally designed so that the process fluid (water in this case) is not necessary for bearing lubrication or motor cooling. Being a positive displacement pump, it would move the same amount of water regardless of the back pressure it is pumping against. This means that if the pump is running and the hose outlet is closed with a valve on the shower head, the water still has to go somewhere, so the weakest point will fail (leak), e.g. the sealing gasket, the hose, or the pump diaphragm.
