Lust pull it to create some slack in the string and that will loosen it so you can unwrap it from around the blade. For the actual sheath the latch on the top unhooks like a plastic buckle or a hinge. This works well too because the sheath is extra secure and stays in place while you carry it. Hope this helps! |

| Question: | What's the difference between the chopping and the splitting axe |
| Answer: | Chopping axe doesn’t have the wide V shape cheek (part of the head) the splitting axe does. Very difficult to make a good chop perpendicularly (cut down tree or cut limb in half) with a splitting axe because of the wide cheek of the head. However, the wide V shape makes splitting wood effortless. |

| Answer: | Rockford Illinois is an old manufacturing town. There is a Jeep manufacturing plant a few miles down the road in Belvidere, IL. Estwing is one of the old, original manufacturers still left, and probably the best axes you can buy, especially for the price!! |

| Answer: | I just received mine and weighed it on a scale accurate to 1/100 of an ounce. The weight including the included synthetic sheath is 30.05 oz and w/o the sheath is 28.45 oz. This converts to ~1.87 and 1.78 lbs, respectively. In other words, as of 2016 Feb 07, the Product Description weight of 14.9 oz is completely off for the hatchet I received. |

| Answer: | If the company says it's 1055, as a previous customer indicated, I wouldn't doubt it. I've owned this axe for a while now and find it to be of excellent quality. 1055 is a durable carbon steel that is excellent at withstanding shock. It is a fairly economical steel, probably not that much more costly than 420 so I don't know why they'd even have motivation to mislead on that front. If they were claiming it was something more costly like O-1, or a tool steel like D2 or M2, I would find that a little more suspicious. |
