10 best camping coffee maker
A camping coffee maker is an essential piece of equipment for outdoor enthusiasts who want to enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee while camping or hiking. These devices are designed to be portable, durable, and easy to use in the wilderness. They come in various forms, and the choice depends on individual preferences and the level of convenience required. Here are some common types of camping coffee makers:
Pour-Over Coffee Maker: This is a simple and lightweight option. It typically consists of a cone-shaped filter holder that sits on top of a coffee cup or thermos. You place a coffee filter with grounds in the holder and pour hot water over it, allowing the coffee to drip into your container.
French Press: A portable French press coffee maker is a popular choice for camping. It consists of a cylindrical container with a plunger and a metal or mesh filter. To make coffee, you add coffee grounds and hot water, let it steep, and then press down the plunger to separate the grounds from the coffee.
Percolator: A camping percolator is a traditional choice. It consists of a pot with a perforated basket inside. As water boils, it percolates through the coffee grounds, producing a strong and bold coffee flavor. Percolators are available in various sizes to suit different group sizes.
Single-Serve Coffee Makers: For solo campers or those who prefer the convenience of single-serve coffee, there are portable coffee makers designed for this purpose. They often use coffee pods or capsules to brew a single cup of coffee quickly.
Portable Espresso Makers: Espresso lovers can also enjoy their favorite brew while camping with portable espresso makers. These devices use pressure to extract espresso, and some are designed to work with ground coffee, while others use coffee capsules.
Battery-Powered Coffee Makers: Some modern camping coffee makers are battery-powered or rechargeable. These devices can quickly brew coffee without the need for an open flame or camp stove. They are great for campers who want a hassle-free coffee-making experience.
Stovetop Coffee Makers: These coffee makers are designed to be used on camping stoves. They come in various designs, such as moka pots or percolators, and can produce rich and flavorful coffee when used with a camp stove.
When choosing a camping coffee maker, consider factors such as the size of your group, the brewing method you prefer, and the ease of cleaning and maintenance. Additionally, make sure it's compatible with your camping equipment and that you have a reliable source of hot water, whether it's from a camp stove, a campfire, or a portable water heater. Enjoying a cup of coffee in the great outdoors can be a delightful part of the camping experience.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will a compact propane canister and stove (pocket rocket type) fit inside without having to leave the press part behind |
Answer: | Yes. But not the canister. I have the Pocket Rocket, a zippo lighter, and the Jetboil fuel can stabilizer (folded) that live in mine along with a microfiber cloth. Cloth goes in the bottom to protect the filter, and everything else fits in on top of it. Works very well. |
Question: | Can this be used on an open flame |
Answer: | Yes. The lid can be used while on the flame but remove the press durning heating. |
Question: | Is the press easier to press with hot water in container? Because dry, I almost had to stand on it to get it to plunge down |
Answer: | Much like any amorous activity, dry is not good. The gasket on the bottom should remain in the most difficult to press position - its job is to prevent leakby into the filtered portion. |
Question: | how much coffee grounds per 32 oz of water |
Answer: | If we're going by commandments, and you like it strong, I do 60 grams of course ground to 800 ml water at 205 degrees. Usually 13/1 ratio. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Got the percolator and replacement glass top but have to re-learn exactly how much coffee to use for this perfect percolator |
Answer: | 1 max loaded teaspoon per cup + 1 teaspoon for the pot. Now you have to define the volume of your "cup.". Some coffee lots state 6 oz is a " cup. ". This is dinky. My volume "cup" is a good size mug, about 10-12 oz.I I also wad up a piece of aluminum foil and jam it into the pouring spout ( I have an 8 and 12 cup stove top percolator: Farberware Yosemite). I use enough aluminum foil to have a "handle" I can grab to remove before pouring. What is the purpose for my aluminum foil spout plug? It greatly reduces vapor loss during percolating. You may START with 3-4 mugs of water, but if you forget about the coffee pot, you will quickly boil off a mug of water and change the flavor/strength. Set a simple timer for 6-8 minutes of percolation time, or about 16-18 total minutes from the time you apply heat. For coffee? I like Maxwell House Columbian. Tried many other brands, and "high end" designer / coffee snob beans. I keep coming back to Maxwell House Columbian. I have stopped searching for coffee. |
Question: | I bought this and love it. Can you leave the basket in after brewing? That would sure be easier but the instructions say take it out |
Answer: | We live on our yacht. I brew a full pot about every three days. I replace what is served with hot, boiling water directly into the basket to extend the grounds as I start with a full basket of an extra dark, gourmet blend. I leave the basket in with the grounds as when the brew has cooled and one desires a cup of coffee, we heat in the microwave. Also, if you add a scant amount of salt to the fresh grounds before you brew a pot of coffee, the brew does not turn acidic, an old restaurant trick! I love our percolator! |
Question: | Does it work on induction stove top |
Answer: | I just bought this to replace my electric percolator. I saw that many people had answered this question positively. I checked the Yosemite bottom with a magnet and the magnet did not stick but never-the-less it still worked on my Duxtop Induction cooktop. The manufacturer says the bottom was 18/0 stainless which is suitable for induction which is, I'm sure, why it works. I tested it against my regular glass top electric range top the water boiled about twice as fast on the induction cooktop. My method ended up being to set the induction cooktop to high until the water boils then turn down the power to 2 (500W, 180 degrees F) and let perc for 6-7 mins. Worked like a charm. |
Question: | Is the filter basket and stem made of stainless steel also or aluminum |
Answer: | Do NOT be fooled. You still need to use a Paper coffee filters in this basket. There is a certain type of Unhealthy oil material that comes off of All coffee..Only the coffee filter can catch it.If you notice with this is sold separate, Melitta 628354 Disc Coffeemaker Filters - Pack of 2 (200 Filters total)by Melitta ...Btw Dr. Oz talks about the need for coffee filters all the time even if your coffee pot comes with the mesh, or percolator , for a good reason. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the bag made of? I'm wondering if water comes in contact with any plastic |
Answer: | That all depends on who, (seller or store), you purchase the item(s) from. Amazon is made up of individual sellers, so if you want to be 100% certain, I would recommend contacting the seller you plan on placing your order with & asking them directly. At least you will have covered your basis and won't have any surprises later. In the unfortunate event you do, you will have something in writing to back up your case, when you contact Amazon. Hopefully that won't ever happen. I personally feel the majority of us who sell on Amazon are 100% honest people, who genuinely care about our buyers. We must follow extremely strict guidelines if we want to have the privileges of having a store on this website, & not being honest is the fastest way to have those privileges stripped away, no questions asked. Sorry for the speech, just thought I'd elaborate on the topic as I see/read a lot of replies/responses in which people aren't aware of how Amazon is run or how/from whom, the products are sold. Hopefully I was able to enlighten you at least somewhat & haven't made things more confusing. (It's been a VERY LONG & trying day, to say the least.) Feel free to ask questions if I wasn't clear, & thanks for shopping on Amazon! |
Question: | Is the nylon mesh bag food-grade. Is it what is called "black nylon" or is it nylon with additives |
Answer: | not in the shampoo, but rinse has aloe leaf juice. both have tangerine peel oil |
Question: | will it take 4 scoops? (tbspns) Do the grounds get threw |
Answer: | The shampoo is darker than the conditioner yes. A darker purple. If your hair is platinum like mine was it will give a purple tint for a few days |
Question: | Any tips on how to brew decaf with this to bring out the flavor? Would it take longer or does the grinds have to be wetted first like in pour overs |
Answer: | Kevin Murphy products are both sulfate and paraben free |
Question: | Are these knock off or no |
Answer: | I googled "is Colorproof shampoo gluten free" and the answer appears to be "yes", but you can do that and read the links yourself. |
Question: | Do these products contain aloe Vera or coconut oil? I’m extremely allergic. Thank you |
Answer: | Due to the fact that it makes hair healthier with more volume, hair seems like it’s growing faster but I doubt if it is. Personally, I take 5000mg of biotin and a vitamin with minerals along with using this shampoo (the only shampoo and conditioner I use) and together my hair appears to grow faster. |
Question: | Is this supposed to be blue |
Answer: | Both the shampoo and conditioner came with pumps already inserted. |
Question: | Are these products sulfate and paraben free |
Answer: | After using this for a few years, I have always been happy with it as it makes my hair so much healthier with more volume. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pot need to be seasoned |
Answer: | The person who answered "Italy" to your question was the China factory trying to fool you... why are they ashamed of their own products? Cheaply made, for one. |
Question: | the gloss top of the lid of my percolator broke can I get a new one |
Answer: | I bought this coffee maker because it is induction ready. I have always cleaned my espresso maker with plain soap and water or use the dishwasher. Honestly, I only do this once a week, otherwise I just rinse and dry. I find coffee taste better this way as opposed to washing after each use. |
Question: | Hi, if you can make just one cup of coffee how does this work - what's the minimum amount of water required? thx |
Answer: | I don’t have an “opaque lining” in mine. I’ve used mine several times and nothing is corroded. |
Question: | Is the top glass or plastic |
Answer: | I don't know what that is in reference to. I have made maybe 140 pots of coffee with this, with no problems. One thing is to use good water; i always use filtered. Also good quality coffee. I would recommend this pot, as it does make a very good expresso for the type of pot it is. It will not be like espresso coming out of $12,000 machine like starbucks or in europe. But in Italy where we spend much time, almost everyone and family has this. |

Espresso is generally more highly concentrated than coffee brewed by other methods, often featuring a rich flavor and a creamy foam on top.
- EXCEPTIONAL DESIGN: The Primula 6-Cup Aluminum Espresso Maker features a modern, stylish design with a high-quality aluminum body. The handle is made from a heat resistant plastic that not only provides you with a firm and reliable grip, but also allows your hand to stay cool during use. Its efficient layout forces pressurized water through coffee grounds, and deposits a rich, full bodied espresso blend into the serving chamber.
- ESPRESSO IS VERSATILE: Espresso is one of the most popular ways to consume coffee, and this espresso maker can be used to make popular and delicious coffee recipes like cappuccinos, lattes, americanos, macchiatos and mochas. Espresso can also be enjoyed as a shot for those who enjoy fuller flavored coffee.
- EASY TO USE INSTRUCTIONS: Unscrew the top and remove the filter funnel from the base. Fill the base with fresh water up to the level of the safety valve and insert the filter funnel. Fill the filter funnel with finely ground coffee (do not press down), and screw the top firmly to the base.
- USE & CARE: Easy to clean and easy to use. Place the espresso maker on low to medium heat, and within 3-5 minutes, delicious espresso will fill the serving chamber. Serve immediately.
User questions & answers
Question: | how many ounces of coffee does this make? The cups must be very small |
Answer: | Mix 2oz with 8oz of hot water for an Americano or with 8oz of hot milk for a cappuccino. For full effect you can whip the milk in a french press. The straight espresso (if brewed with find ground espresso and not regular ground coffee) that this makes is very strong by itself. You could drink a full pot of it but you'd be pretty wired, they're usually served in 1.5oz shots. |
Question: | Is this the same as the Moka pot, but cheaper? Any differences between this and the Moka brand |
Answer: | The main difference is the material being used. This is steel, while many are aluminum. There are alleged health problems with aluminum, plus it does leach into the flavor at times. This also has a different shape than the classic aluminum moka pots that have sharp angles. I don't think it makes any difference to the coffee, but it will look a bit different. I personally would still call this a Moka pot, even if it's not the Bialetti brand. |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | Made in China on my box. No markings on pot. |
Question: | how to get the allumimum taste out |
Answer: | First VERY RARELY EVER use soap! I learned the hard way not to use soap. That caused a little bit aluminum taste but as I used it by the 3rd time all that bad taste was gone. If you run water only thru a few time this might help. There are some easy powder cleansers you can purchase at stores in the coffee pot or pots and pans area. But very important for you to rinse several times with clear cool water. Also maybe put a little coffee grounds in the bottom and soak it over night the rinse well with water ONLY. This may help. Good luck!! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can someone, anyone tell me where this coffee maker is manufactured? I’m guessing China, but would like some confirmation. Thanks in advance |
Answer: | We use the Melitta #4 filters. These will handle 4-6 cups of the drip brew. |
Question: | I understand that Melitta's newest carafes are not glass lined, but are stainless lined. Is this one glass lined |
Answer: | If you're looking to Buy American, I recommend ANY Melitta product because they do employ people here in the US, and they produce awesome, well-made items. Maybe not made here, but most of the electric kitchen items are junk lately. It's hard to say and I can't find any info one way or the other about the carafe set. Melitta is a German company. They have a paper filter manufacturing plant in Clearwater FL. And they have a coffee roastery in Cherry Hill NJ. They produce a wide range of coffee and tea makers, but I also no longer have my electric tea kettle box as to where that was made. I had that kettle for over ten years (2002 - 2013) before it stopped working. I don't know of any others that have that long a life. I replaced it with another electric kettle and it lasted only 4 months. We tossed it out this past week. I'm getting another Melitta kettle soon. |
Question: | Is there any way to clean inside the lid when it accumulates build-up inside |
Answer: | There is just one hole in the cone. |
Question: | Is the mouth of the carafe large enough to get my hand in for cleaning? And is there a lid for the carafe |
Answer: | Although I don't have the pot at my current location to check it for sure, I believe 36 ounces would be the total as they consider a "cup" to be 6 ozs. When I make two twelve ounce cups with the pour over method that brings the level exactly to the 4 cup level, which from memory is about the half way point, so you should be able to get at least 36 oz if not a little more with a full pot. I can verify for you early next week if you would like to know the exact capacity. It's a handy little carafe for making just a couple large mugs of coffee at a time, and versatile enough to use either the #4 Melitta or #2 Hario cones on top. |

In 1908 German housewife Melitta Bentz made coffee history. Tired of bitter coffee, Melitta poked holes in a brass cup and lined it with a sheet of her son’s blotting paper to create the world’s first Pour-Over. The result was rich, flavorful, handcrafted coffee that forever changed the way people brew their coffee. Over 100 years later, Melitta remains dedicated to the pursuit of a better cup.

The AeroPress coffee maker is ideal for any coffee lover looking for a rich, smooth cup of coffee. Its rapid, full immersion brewing process with a paper Microfilter maximizes flavor, producing grit-free coffee without bitterness or acidity – a substantial improvement on the French press. One pressing with the AeroPress brews one to three servings of American style coffee or one to three servings of espresso style coffee which can then be used to make delicious lattes or other espresso based drinks. The AeroPress also makes smooth, rich cold brew coffee in around two minutes, unlike typical cold brewers that require hours of steep time. It's a great addition to any kitchen but since it is durable, lightweight, and compact, the AeroPress also makes the perfect companion when traveling, camping, boating, or just going to work. Includes the AeroPress press, funnel, scoop, stirrer, 350 microfilters, and a filter holder. Mug not included. Assembled measurements: 9 1/2" h X 4" w X 4" d
- Popular with coffee enthusiasts worldwide, the patented AeroPress is a new kind of coffee press that uses a rapid, total immersion brewing process to make smooth, delicious, full flavored coffee without bitterness and with low acidity.
- Good-bye French Press! The rapid brewing AeroPress avoids the bitterness and high acidity created by the long steep time required by the French press. Plus, the AeroPress paper Microfilter eliminates grit and means clean up takes seconds.

User questions & answers
Question: | Plunge takes two minutes, even with wet plunger. Any ideas |
Answer: | Been using this for about 4 years. Push, pause for air to release 2-3 seconds, then plunge another 3-4 seconds. If you push before the air releases, you are wasting your time. Initial push creates a vacuum, and trapped air must exit. If it takes more then 10 seconds to plunge, you are doing it wrong; listen for the hiss of the air coming out then push a second time after the air leaves. |
Question: | Does it come with filters |
Answer: | Yes. But I much prefer the taste of coffee filtered through the ABLE metal coffee filter. Try a bunch of different water coffee ratios, brew times, and at least try a reusable filter. Home roasted coffee is best, but you can make even the pre ground over roasted stinkers from the grocery store taste o.k. This is a pretty forgiving method because off the sort brewing times. |
Question: | What kind of filter and how much does it cost |
Answer: | It uses paper micro-filters. The AeroPress comes with 350 filters. Replacement packs of 350 filters are sold everywhere for about $3. You can also rinse a filter under the tap and re-use it up to about twenty times. |
Question: | Is this BPS (Bisphenol S) free? BPS seems to be as bad as BPA |
Answer: | My brother-in-law is diagnosed with pancreas cancer due to his love for cups of hot coffee made via a coffee maker with those poisonous plastic parts. Abosolutely horrendous experience. Any plastic, as long as it is a by product of petroleum, BPA/BPS free or not, FDA certified or not, used with heat is NO good. I wish this company could be responsible to their customers and use safe materials |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many cups of coffee can you brew with one canister |
Answer: | Measured with manual calipers, the outer diameter of the filter (so the smallest opening the aeropress will fit) is very close 67mm (~2 and 5/8 inches), and the flat to flat on the hexagonal flange (so the widest opening on which the Aeropress will balance stably) is 95mm (~3 and 3/4 in), though you could maybe risk another eight inch or so if you're really confident about how steadily you can push down on it. The funnel spout's outer diameter is 48mm (~2 and 29/32 in), but if your vessel mouth is only a teeny bit wider than that, it could chew up these little plastic ridges higher up the funnel. Useful comparison: the Aeropress fits a widemouth mason jar and honestly every mug I've tried it on, but not a standard mason jar. The funnel fits into a normal mason jar or Nalgene opening very well, but only just barely into a Hydroflask. |
Question: | Is a can of fuel included with the initial system purchase or does it have to be purchased separately |
Answer: | The correct answer is NO. This product revision does NOT contain BPAs. The following is the revision history from the OEM who designed the product. Per OEM, 7-revisions of the product occurred starting in year 2005. 2005: Rev-1 PC material blue-ish tint. Contained BPAs 2007: Rev-2 PC material blue-ish tint lettering revision. Contained BPAs 2009: Rev-3 updated material from PC to a copolyester also with blue lettering. This was done to rid BPAs as, PolyCarbonate (PC) 2010: Rev-4 started tinting the material smoked grey 2014: Rev-5 changed lettering to inked orange-ish color for half the year June was when they rolled the rev. 2014: Rev-6 updated material again from Copolyester to Polypropylene and added dark tint (darkest of the series) and updated lettering to beige. 2015: Rev-7 updated color back to light grey tint and gold foil lettering for durability as the markings kept wearing off - (like on mine. I own Rev-6) This is the history on this product. Sellers are advised to update photos to ensure customers that they're not getting an older revision. Note to customers: please verify you're getting the latest revision Rev-7. |
Question: | Does the Java also have a regular lid |
Answer: | Cleaning the Aeropress is simple: once the water has been pressed through the coffee and out of the cylinder, all that is necessary is to push the used coffee out of the cylinder in the same way that the water had been pressed. You must remove the plastic filter holder, of course. The used coffee grinds are pushed through and into the garbage or recycling bag. All that is necessary then is to rinse all of the parts of the Aeropress to remove any lingering grinds. The press is dishwasher safe, so I put it through the dishwashing cycle once a week or so. If you haven't tried Aeropress coffee, you are in for a treat. |
Question: | what is the fuel type |
Answer: | You don't want water at 175, which would end up being just warm after using the press. You want it much hotter. They claim 175 because any hotter you will release toxins from the platic to your coffee. It should be made from creamic or glass. Never use hot liquid with plastic for long repeated periods of time. Use some logic, not just the stats. |
Question: | What is the diameter of the mug that will fit the AeroPress |
Answer: | I received mine in about two weeks, so I don't know why it would take longer, unless it is out of stock or it is being shipped out of the country. |
Question: | is the product bpa free |
Answer: | The basket is of a dubious metal that outlasted the pot. The pot interior had so much corrosion and pitting after 2 years that it was frightening. The quality of stainless is very very low. Note they do not mention 18-8 or 18-3 stainless. The outside still looks pristine like it has lots of chromium in it. The glass top broke and was replaced. The basket was the only part not ruined in normal use. I question the safety of this pot, now used as a bird feeder. |
Question: | How difficult is cleaning? I prefer press coffee, but i have to swirl the water in the press and go outside (usually in my bare feet) to dispose of it. A shame what it does to fresh snow |
Answer: | I gave up on having an automatic coffee maker and started using this one. It makes better coffee/ it draws more of the oils out from the grounds. I learned how to use it from YouTube videos, and after 2 years of making coffee with this very 12 cup Percolator I'll go ahead and share my technique (since someone else's public post is how I learned). First I use regular coffee filters, and just poke a hole in the middle. It helps to wet the holder so the paper sticks to the sides to keep out of the way while you add coffee grounds to your strainer jig (I add 5 heaping dinner spoons). Some grounds get through but after my coffee is done I pour it through a fine strainer anyway to get those out. Start by putting the stove on high. Once you have an angry boil, change the heat down to medium (5 is medium on my scale of 10 for stove settings). This is the heat you'll keep it on while it percolates. Take the lid off the pot and set your loaded strainer jig inside (I forget the technical name for it). Then replace the lid and the percolation process begins/ you'll see water pop up into the glass thing on top, and inside it's dripping down over the coffee grounds to make the coffee. Set your timer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn off the heat but dont lift the lid on the pot, and dont take it off the burner/ just leave it. When everything is cooled enough to lift the lid without hot water spurting out at you, it's ready to drink. Enjoy! |
Question: | What easily, repeatable ways do people use to create 175 degrees hot water? (I can't see my bleary-eyed AM self fussing with meat thermometers |
Answer: | Yeah, I just went over to Lehmans.com... they only sell TWO percolators and BOTH are made in China! And at the rate things are going you’d better hurry up and even buy the Chinese “crap” before we can’t anything from China. |
Question: | why does it take 1-2 months to receive it????this is rediculous in todays world |
Answer: | I'm not positive what the mesh bag is made of, though I would expect that it is nylon or some type of nylon composite. If you have a health concern, I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to ensure there's no plastic in it, since they don't specify the material in the product description or on their web site. But assuming the bag has no plastic, coffee usually doesn't contact plastic, as long as you pour the hot water carefully into the mesh bag so that it doesn't run over the plastic rim, and as long as you don't overfill the cup so that the coffee comes up to the plastic rim from below. |
Question: | Is the basket stainless also, or aluminum |
Answer: | Materials are food-grade. It is made of polyester mesh. |
Question: | How do you KNOW coffee is ready |
Answer: | Four scoops will fill it pretty full and only a small amount of very fine grounds end up at the bottom of the cup. I find it helpful to pre-rinse the Coffee Brew Buddy, add a scoop at a time and pour a bit of water over the grounds between scoops. This, in addition to stirring, helps to saturate the grounds. |
Question: | I just read on this site that it is made in China, That's all I need to know. I refuse to buy chinese |
Answer: | Just scoop the amount of grinds you need to give you the darkness you want an drop them inside the filter while the filter sits inside the cup. Then, pour very hot water over the grinds. The key to making great coffee is to use the hottest possible water to get the flavor and oils from the coffee grinds.. Dark roasted coffee gives a better flavor as opposed to medium roast, in my opinion. Fine grind is better than medium grind but you may get a few grind at the bottom of the cup. Not a big deal at all. Regular or decaf, the process is the same. |
