12 best mre packs
MRE, or Meals Ready-to-Eat, packs are a convenient and widely used option for sustenance in various outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and military operations. These packs are designed to provide a complete and balanced meal in a compact, durable package.
MREs typically contain a variety of items, including a main entree, side dishes, snacks, desserts, and beverages. The food is often freeze-dried or dehydrated to extend its shelf life and reduce weight. The packaging is designed to withstand harsh conditions and keep the food inside fresh and safe to eat.
One of the advantages of MREs is their portability and ease of preparation. Most MREs come with their own heating elements, allowing users to warm up the food without the need for an external heat source. This makes them ideal for situations where traditional cooking methods may not be feasible.
MREs are known for their long shelf life, making them a reliable option for emergency preparedness. They are also designed to provide a sufficient amount of calories and nutrients to sustain individuals in physically demanding situations.
While MREs offer convenience, it's essential to be mindful of individual dietary needs and preferences. Some people may find the taste and texture of certain MRE items different from freshly prepared meals. Additionally, proper disposal of MRE packaging is important to minimize environmental impact.
Overall, MRE packs are a practical solution for those engaging in outdoor activities or in need of emergency food supplies.

User questions & answers
Question: | When is inspection date and how long time left they are not useless |
Answer: | 3/2017 or newer. If kept in cool dark storage they will last for years. Mreinfo.com has good info on this |
Question: | do they come with heaters |
Answer: | Yes.The military mre's do come with heaters.if you get some, type in "fun with mre heaters" and see what comes up on google. |
Question: | Delivery only came with 4 varieties, not the 12 menus advertised. Was this a mistake |
Answer: | It means you should return the product for a refund and you should not eat that. It is repackaged and being sold as new. You have no idea how that product has been treated. All military issue cases of MREs have 12 individual packages each corresponding to one of the 12 meal options for that case, type A or type B. The two types provide a total of 24 possible menus, and if you get one of each case you will have all 24 options, as in every time. MREs have a very long shelf life when properly stored. In fact when frozen they are considered to have an indefinite shelf life. But when improperly stored that shelf life drops dramatically. As in, is I were you I would not risk it. But that is my army service talking. If you don't for some reason believe me, find a veteran you trust, ask if they have ever handed out MREs (like 99% chance they have) and ask if there was ever a repeat in a box. They will confirm that doesn't happen with real MREs. |
Question: | what is the difference between menu A and menu B |
Answer: | Menus refers to the recipes that come in the box. There are 24 recipes broken down into menus of 12 each per box. Searching "MRE Menus" can provide a list of the 2013 menus currently in use (and what recipes these boxes provide). Menus 1-12 are Box A and menus 13-24 are Box B.TLDR: http://www.mreinfo.com/us/mre/mre-menus.html |

Military MRE 2019 Inspection A case
User questions & answers
Question: | are these 24 hour rations or single meals |
Answer: | Exactly what the seller said. It is a box with 12 single meals. Each meal has approx. 1250 calories. Typically, people need about 2200-2700 calories a day to maintain weight. So you could figure you need about 2 of these a day to not lose weight if you ate nothing else. These are NOT the high calorie 24 hour food blocks if that's what you were asking. |
Question: | do they really cost this much these days |
Answer: | I ordered this product Nov 13, 2019 for $74.25 This is price gouging! |
Question: | can the MREsbe frozen |
Answer: | On Steve’s MRE review channel on YouTube, Steve1989 or whatever it is, he’s had a couple MRE’s that have been frozen and I believe it worked out well. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there only A and B cases |
Answer: | Blue Line XMREs do not have A and B cases. Some of these questions are being confused with actual military MREs. Blue Line MREs contain frh heaters except for the tuna and chicken chunk which are not ment to be heated. These also come in the commercial Star Kist packaging instead of the brown MRE pouches. The meals actually come in sealed clear pouches and are julien date stamped. Calorie count is around 1200 but bear in mind that should be sufficient for emergencys or sheltering in but not for humping the boonies all day. If you want that, spend a few dollars more for actual military surplus. Other comments about such things as variety, lack of condiments, and cheap utensils. My last order came with 6 different menus, 2 each. They have plastic spoons that are flimsier than the Gov. MREs but still do the job. Also have salt and pepper and napkin. The breakfast meals came with coffee or cappuccino drink. The meals are actually quite good and come with cookies, crackers and desserts. |
Question: | It says you get 12 cases of meals and each case has 12 meals.Exactly how many meals are in each box |
Answer: | There is only one case. Only 1 case. The case is shipped in one box. (The shipping box is standard cardboard. The Case is contained within the box. The case contains 12 MRE's. The case is plaster glue board that could withstand a gorilla attack.) The single case that you get will have 12 meals. An MRE = 1 meal. |
Question: | what types of meals are there |
Answer: | Below is a list of the menus in that should be in the cases. This is not a guarantee as the military contractor has the option to substitute menus but the list will be pretty close. We hope this helps. thank you for your patronage Menus 1 through12 are in the A case and Menus 13-24 are in the B case Menu 1 Chili w/Beans Corn Bread Cheese Spread Vegetable Cracker Fudge Brownie, Trans Fat Free Carbohydrate Fortified Beverage Menu 2 Shredded Barbeque Beef Seasoned Black Beans Toasted Corn Kernels Jalapeno Cheese Spread Tortilla Carbohydrate Fortified Beverage Barbeque Sauce Menu 3 Chicken w/Noodles Beef Snacks Cheese Spread Plain Cracker Nut Raisin Mix Candy I Carbohydrate Fortified Beverage Hot Sauce Menu 4 Spaghetti w/Meat Sauce Baked Snack Cracker Peanut Butter Multigrain Snack Bread Dried Fruit Cocoa Jelly/Jam Menu 5 Diced Chicken First Strike Bar Jalapeno Cheese Spread Tortilla Dried Fruit Candy II Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Buffalo Sauce Menu 6 Beef Taco Filling Spiced Apples Instant Pudding Peanut Butter Tortilla Jelly/Jam Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Seasoning Blend Menu 7 Beef Brisket Garlic Mashed Potatoes Cookie Peanut Butter Snack Bread Jelly/Jam Irish Cream Cappuccino Menu 8 Meatballs w/Marinara Au Gratin Potatoes Pound Cake, Trans Fat Free Jalapeno Cheese Spread Snack Bread Beef Snacks Carbohydrate Fortified Beverage Menu 9 Beef Stew Nut Raisin Mix w/Choc Disks Peanut Butter Multigrain Snack Bread Jelly/Jam Pretzels Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Hot Sauce Menu 10 Chili And Macaroni Pound Cake, Trans Fat Free Cheese Spread Plain Cracker Beef Snacks Candy III Carbohydrate Fortified Beverage Ground Red Pepper Menu 11 Vegetarian Vegetarian Taco Pasta Wet Pack Fruit Cookie Chunky Peanut Butter Plain Cracker Nuts Candy I French Vanilla Cappuccino Hot Sauce Chili Lime Menu 12 Vegetarian Spicy Penne Pasta First Strike Bar Chocolate Peanut Spread Snack Bread Nut Raisin Mix Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Hot Sauce Menu 13 Vegetarian Cheese Tortellini Instant Pudding Peanut Butter Plain Cracker Candy II Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Base Hot Sauce Menu 14 Vegetarian Ratatouille Wet Pack Fruit Peanut Butter Plain Cracker Nut Raisin Mix Dairyshake, Trans Fat Free Hot Sauce Menu 15 Mexican Style Chicken Stew Wet Pack Fruit Filled Pretzels Peanut Butter Vegetable Cracker Candy II Chocolate Hazelnut Cocoa Ground Red Pepper Menu 16 Boneless Pork Rib Santa Fe Style Rice And Beans Ranger Bar Peanut Butter Twin Pack Wheat Snack Bread Jelly/Jam Cocoa Barbeque Sauce Menu 17 Maple Sausage Maple Muffin Top Cheese Spread Plain Cracker Nut Raisin Mix Electrolyte Beverage Base Table Syrup Menu 18 Beef Ravioli In Meat Sauce Toaster Pastry Jalepeno Cheese Spread Snack Bread Dried Fruit Beef Snacks Carbohydrate Fortified Beverage Hot Sauce Menu 19 Jalapeno Pepperjack Beef Patty Cherry And Blueberry Cobbler Bacon Cheese Spread Twin Pack Wheat Snack Bread Nut Raisin Mix Candy III Carbohydrate Fortified Beverage Ketchup/Mustard Menu 20 Hash Brown Potatoes w/Bacon Granola w/Fruit Chocolate Banana Muffin Top Cheese Spread Plain Cracker Beef Snacks Sugar Free Beverage Base, Orange w/Vitamin C Menu 21 Lemon Pepper Tuna First Stirke Bar Cheese Spread Tortilla Filled Crackers Dairyshake, Trans Fat Free Fat Free Mayo Menu 22 Asian Sytle Beef Strips w/Peppers Fried Rice Cookie, Chunky Peanut Butter Snack Bread Jelly/Jam Carbohydrate Fortified Beverage Menu 23 Chicken Pesto Pasta Patriotic Cookie Cheese Spread Italian Bread Sticks Nuts Filled Bakery Carbohydrate Electrolyte Beverage Menu 24 Southwest Beef And Black Beans Wet Pack Fruit Pound Cake, Trans Fat Free Cheese Spread Chipotle Tortilla Turkey Snacks |
Question: | Would chicken or beef be a better option for zombie apocalypse survival |
Answer: | The mildly putrefied flesh of 1,000 geriatric virgins would be the ideal meat for zombie apocalypses. Pet zombies really love it. But, you can eat whatever you want, whether there are zombies or not. No matter what you do, though, never eat, nor feed to your pet zombies a vegan diet. Vegan diets will cause the Satanic spirits to emerge from old trees at midnight in the area of the last vegan meal eaten, particularly during apocalypses. At least, this is what I've found to be true in my experiences dealing with many different apocalypses. I hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the heaters the new xmre heater or the standard military heaters |
Answer: | The heaters in these are awesome and better than what the military issues. My buddy is a Ranger and he loved these MRE's when I broke some out on a fishing trip. He said the heaters in these work WAY better than the ones issued. And within a few minutes our MRE's were hot and ready to go. |
Question: | The box says the date code should be 4 digits, mine appears to be 5., can somebody help? The code is |
Answer: | Yes , the manufacturer has shifted to a 5 digit code with 20 being the year and 078 being the sequential date for the year. We have discussed this with them and and they will be changing the box information when they run out of the current supply they had in inventory. We are selling brand new production. We this helps. |
Question: | These were 75% less 30 days ago. Why the increasing price point |
Answer: | This is price gouging under the guise of supply and demand. I ordered a case at $200 and by the time it was delivered a few days later, some of the lockdown vibes were better and the price MyStErIoUsLy dropped to a normal price of $175. |
Question: | What's the manufcatured date |
Answer: | The package I received in December 2019 had a pack date of December 2018 (8355). I expected "Brand New- Freshest pack dates Available" to mean they wouldn't be a year old already. |

The Flameless Heating Pack was designed for cooking & heating without the need of dangerous chemicals, open flames, fuels such as propane, butane, or electricity such as a microwave. User questions & answers
Question: | What is the gram difference? When do you use 20 versus |
Answer: | The 50 heats longer or more food than the 20. I use the 50 for larger meals, the 20 for singles. I think the 50’s are better in the long run if you want warmer meals. |
Question: | Does this work for large Barocook container |
Answer: | The 20g small heat packs work for the barocook tumbler cup cooker, the 50g large packs work in the rectangular cooker. I have both--they heat quite well. |
Question: | Can these go in a carry-on bag on the airlines? (i.e. are these TSA approved |
Answer: | When unopened and completely sealed the Barocook Heating packs are TSA approved. You are able to carry them on the airplane. We do not recommend using them while in flight. Not only is it against airline regulation to open them while on board, but you might get tackled when someone sees the smoke coming out of them.Always keep in mind, Barocook heating packs remain hot for over 30 minutes after cooking or heating and should be handled with caution. |
Question: | Can these be used to "purify" water, as in boiling creek water to drink |
Answer: | These are probably not a good solution for purifying water. These fuel packs are designed to be used in conjunction with a Barocook Cookware System where the heated water created by the fuel pack does not come into direct contact with whatever you're heating. Although you could heat water in the cookware system, the product page states that the fuel pack reaches a temperature of 203 degrees Fahrenheit, which isn't quite hot enough to actually boil water for purification. Also, I would not recommend using these to heat water for drinking without using the cookware system. You would not want to drink water that has been in direct contact with these fuel packs. The fuel pack chemically reacts with water to make heat, so that water becomes kind of contaminated in the process. Using these with the Barocook Cookware System to heat water might kill some bacteria and be better than nothing in a survival type situation, however, there are far better products for purifying water (i.e. water purification tablets). |

User questions & answers
Question: | After opening the sealed cases are you able to find a packaging date stamped on the individual meal bags |
Answer: | Yes. Each date code is stamped on each package inside and on the main pouch. The first number is the year within the decade and the last three are the day of the year . I received fresh as 2017 stamps on mine. |
Question: | Hi. What is the difference between case A and case B |
Answer: | They are different meals. see page 8 and on. A is 1-12 B is 12-18 http://www.dla.mil/Portals/104/Documents/TroopSupport/Subsistence/Rations/acrs/mre/m037.pdf |
Question: | Should the pack date start with a 7 if the inspection date is in |
Answer: | Yes that is correct. we are looking at the pictures and they seem to be 2016 pack date and 2020 inspection, which is odd. This is not our listing and we have no control over the pictures on the listing. Our MREs will have a 2017 pack date that will reflect on the case with a Julian date starting with a "7" |
Question: | Why are these now almost 400 dollars when a few months ago they were only |
Answer: | Since everyone is adding their 2 cents in the answers I guess I will join in. Firstly to the guy who said these are an example of socialism and that they were made using taxpayer dollars you don't seem to understand how military surpluses work. The government didn't make these using taxpayer dollars. A private company makes tons of these and sells them to various buyers including private citizens, emergency response agencies, charities that feed people across the world and yes the US military. That isn't socialism that is capitalism. And yes MREs and LOTS of other products increase in price when COVID hit. You can blame the seller or you can blame the ding dongs hoarding and buying stuff at double the price. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Wondering if there might be a way to request specific MREs (i.e. chili mac.....yes....just chili mac....which is magic) to be included with the ruck |
Answer: | Bad news good news. We take the unopened Sopakco cases and put them directly into the Ruck sack. Good News, Sopakco tends to have a good number of Chili Macs in these cases (normally 2 to 4 per case. Please note this is not guarantee that many will be in the cases but just a trend we have seen. |
Question: | Do they come with coffee |
Answer: | We no longer list the coffee being in the MREs as some SOPAKCO amenity packs include coffee and some do not and unfortunately we have no way of know without opening each MRE which , of course, would be problematic. When we created the listing, we had some MREswith coffee , so we included in the contents list. But as you can see from another product review, coffee is not included in all cases, so we decided to pull that item as a component of the MRES |
Question: | Can this hold a sleeping bag and tent with clothes |
Answer: | The pack will certainly hold all those items without the MRES. Depending on the tent, sleeping bags and clothes you will put in, the pack should hold most if not all of them as well. There are straps on the bottom that the tent or sleeping bag could be attached to, and the sustainment pouches on the side could hold some of the MRES or even clothing just depending on how you out fit it. |
Question: | Will this be ideal for a zombie apocalypse |
Answer: | No, zombies will not eat MREs. Try feeding zombies human flesh instead. |
