User questions & answers
Question: | I am 6' tall 220 pounds could I get away with the small size frame or do I really need the larger one How much difference does it make while caring fo |
Answer: | I would get the larger. I am 5'5" 150lbs and I got the small/med; fits perfect. I went to the LEI store to get measured. |
Question: | Is this water resistant |
Answer: | No. Most back pack require a rain cover |
Question: | What size laptop does the daypack fit (I have a 15in)? Does it have enough capacity to use the daypack as an everyday work bag |
Answer: | The15" laptop did fit however the daypack was very small and did not have enough capacity for me. I left the daypack at home and carried a little larger daypck on my trip. |
Question: | Can you fit the Farpoint 70 on the overhead bin without the daypack attached to it? There seems to be mixed opinions on this. Thank you |
Answer: | It will fit perfectly fine in 737/A320 and larger planes. It will have trouble fitting in regional jets. If you don't pack it full, and you are on a larger regional jets, you may be able to fit it in horizonally....though that won't make you a popular person:)Now, fitting in overhead bin, and being allowed to take it onboard without getting charged extra (budget airlines) are totally different stories. If you pack the main bag full, you are not getting away with it "IF" you are asked to put it in the guide box. If you pack it to 40L capacity, a M/L might be able to squeeze into the guide box slightly diagonally, a S/M will have absolutely no problem. In fact, it may be a bit counter-intuitive, but a S/M farpoint 70 main pack (packed to the same capacity as 40L) is actually easier to fit into a guide box than a farpoint 55 or farpoint 40. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Just to check, a 15.6" laptop would not fit in this bag then |
Answer: | It does fit in a 17.3 inch laptop but it does protrude out. Plus the weight distribution is uneven with a heavy front. You could keep it in the main bag pocket against the frame of the bag. |
Question: | Just to check, a 15.6" laptop would not fit in this bag then |
Answer: | The Far point is two big for two carry-on bags. The second backpack, purse or computer bag will have to be smaller than 16-20 liters |
Question: | What are the main differences between this pack and Questa? Which one is better for everyday commuter use |
Answer: | For Osprey pack sizing, the most important measurement will be your torso length. This is the distance between your C7 Vertebrae (the bone that sticks out at the base of your neck) and your Iliac Crest (the top of your hip bone). Measure the vertical distance between these two points to find your torso length. From there, sizing for this pack is as follows:Torso Length: 14"-17" (35.5 cm - 43 cm) - Size: S/MTorso Length: 18"-19" (46 cm - 48 cm) - Size: S/M or M/LTorso Length: 20"-22" (51 cm - 56 cm) - Size: M/L |
Question: | Will this fit a 16" macbook pro, the smaller ipad, a couple of chargers, and a a pair of Beats headphones |
Answer: | Absolutely!! I am using it now for those airlines and it is PERFECT. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this pack big enough at 3051 cu in for a 4-5 night ultra light trip |
Answer: | yes! Also long as you pack light I went on a 3 night trip and brought way to much and still had some room. It also depends on if you are using a tent and which size tent. |
Question: | Does anyone know the what the difference between the men's and women's packs are? I see some are specified and some are not..Thanks |
Answer: | Hi, the main difference is the straps fit for mens chest and is different for womans chest, also i think the womans packs are a bit smaller. |
Question: | Can you fit a tent |
Answer: | You can attached it with the straps right at the bottom. I’ll be “hanging”. I’d recommend this backpack for no more than a 2-days camping trip in “nice” weather. |
Question: | can this fit into cabin bag like 56cm x 36cm x 23cm by removing Top Lid |
Answer: | I haven’t tried that yet, but I’ve watched a video on YouTube that says it can. But will mostly depend on how full the backpack is, and, as it is not a hardside suitcase u can always pack a little less to be sure it’ll pass the control. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How much does this weigh |
Answer: | No |
Question: | There’s two different specs listed in the description. One says will fit up to 17” and the other says up to |
Answer: | It might be a bit of a tight fit. The length of the opening for the laptop sleeve is about 12 inches. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Will this bag stand on its own after packed |
Answer: | This pack is not waterproof but is water resistant and can shed light rain due to the nature of the materials used. For heavy rain, we recommend adding a rain cover for extra protection. |
Question: | Does this backpack compress enough that I would be able to fit it under the seat of an airplane as a personal item |
Answer: | That is somewhat dependent on the specific laptop dimensions as laptops are generally measured by screen size diagonally not necessarily by the total dimensions with the laptop casing. However, it should be able to fit in the pack without any issue. The only potential issue is the padded sleeve may not cover the entire laptop but it should still protect the laptop plenty well. We hope that helps! |

For quick overnights or big days out, the Kestrel 48 is made to haul heavy gear through challenging environments. It wouldn't be an Osprey without adjustable torso lengths to help you dial in your perfect fit and an AirScape backpanel to provide ventilation, whether you're working hard or hardly working. The integrated raincover can be deployed at the first sign of precipitation, Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole carry allows you to stash your poles when bushwhacking or scrambling, and side-zip main compartment access means you don't have to dump everything on the trail to grab what you accidentally packed in the bottom of your pack. Built with rugged nylon fabrics and meets Osprey's quality standards. Back by our All Mighty Guarantee, forever.

User questions & answers
Question: | what nylon is this? 600d? 1000d? 1850D |
Answer: | The Kestrel 48 uses the following types of Nylon MAIN Body - 210D x 630D Nylon Dobby ACCENT - 420HD Nylon Oxford BOTTOM - 500D Nylon Packcloth |
Question: | Is this the 2019 model |
Answer: | Yes it is. It's not discontinued. Only the 2019 model comes in the picholine green. |
Question: | I am planning on doing a 5 day trip and am curious if this is big enough |
Answer: | That depends on the climate as winter clothing and sleep systems take up more space. In warm climate you could backpack for 5 days in this pack. In my experience and because I like to be extra prepared I use a 65L for 5 days. |
Question: | Is this pack big enough for a 5 day trip |
Answer: | I’ve been on two 5 day trips with it, and had plenty of room. I even hauled a full size bear canister inside of it on one of them (don’t recommend this). When I fly with it I put my tent inside and try to slim it down for the overhead bin, but when I’m on the trail, I’ve found it helps to strap the tent to the outside using compression straps which leaves tons of space inside for food. Pack light and get a small/packable sleeping bag and you should have plenty of wiggle room for 5-7 day trips. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My torso length is 19, I see the size scale says to do a medium, but would it be alright or will the inch difference cause that much of an issue |
Answer: | I also got a Medium size bag and it fits perfectly. Of course, the bag can be adjusted so you shouldn't have any issues making it fit to your body. Now, if I was to do this all over again, I would get a bigger bag, perhaps a 58L or 60L. The 48L is good enough for 3 days or so. Something to think about. |
Question: | Does this backpack have an internal frame |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Im 6'1", i weigh around 230 lbs. What size should i get |
Answer: | Hieght, weight, and shoulder width are irrelevant in determining proper pack size. Please see the Osprey website and other outfitters who sell their products, such as REI, in person or online for information on determining what your correct fit is. |
Question: | the dimensions are the same for S, M or L? if not, what are the dimensions for the large one |
Answer: | No, sizes are different, check on Osprey webpage, I was almost in between S and M, and got S and is too small. So, if you are in between sizes I recommend to choose the bigger. |
