Calcium is the critical mineral, and vitamins are needed to facilitate absorption of the calcium. As for the supplements, all Exotic Nutrition pellet foods have calcium/vitamins mixed in already, so as long as the diet is 70% that staple pellet food, no calcium/vitamins need to be added. I’ve been a proponent of this approach long before it became so “trendy”, and I personally think it’s more than a trend, but a common sense approach to keeping all of our pets at peak fitness and health. If it’s so great, then why did we change the formula? When our customers give us consistent feedback, they also give us an opportunity to make our products even better. Two complaints I’ve heard over the years. The number one concern of our customers was the larger kibble size we used. Well, easy enough, we’re now producing the same food with a much smaller (about half size) kibble. Most sugar gliders love the original formula, but some of our babies need a little encouragement to eat certain foods, so while we kept our formula intact, we have added a totally natural honey/yogurt flavor to the coconut oil finish. Pellet foods must be finished in oil, or they won’t hold together. Most companies use soy oil, but to keep our product completely soy free, we opted to the more expensive and more nutritious coconut oil. So why isn’t the food more expensive? I don’t know. I can only guess that SunCoast Sugar Gliders is not greedy, and just more concerned with getting great products out there to support your sugar gliders at optimal health. Because it's a dry food, Wholesome Balance does not have to be replaced each day (unless they poopy in their din din). Sugar gliders generally love the taste and it's easier and more economical to feed. Real food is more satisfying and more filling. You may find that you will need to feed 50% less!
