14 best tarantula enclosures
Tarantula enclosures are specialized habitats designed to provide a comfortable and safe environment for pet tarantulas. These enclosures are essential for maintaining the well-being of tarantulas in captivity. Here's what you need to know about tarantula enclosures:
Terrarium Type:
- Tarantulas are typically kept in terrariums or glass enclosures. The size and type of enclosure can vary depending on the species of tarantula, its size, and its specific habitat requirements.
Size and Space:
- The size of the enclosure should provide enough space for the tarantula to move around comfortably, but it should not be excessively large.A rule of thumb is to select an enclosure that is at least 2-3 times the leg span of the tarantula.
Substrate:
- The substrate at the bottom of the enclosure is important for maintaining proper humidity levels and allowing tarantulas to burrow if they are a burrowing species. Common substrates include coconut coir, peat moss, or a mixture of both.
Hide and Shelter:
- Tarantulas appreciate places to hide and seek shelter. You can provide this by adding hollow logs, cork bark, or half-buried flower pots as hideouts. These hiding spots help reduce stress for the tarantula.
Climbing Accessories:
- Some tarantula species are arboreal and require vertical space. For these species, you can include branches or cork bark for climbing and web-building.
Temperature and Humidity:
- Maintain the appropriate temperature and humidity levels based on the tarantula's species. Many tarantulas thrive at room temperature (around 70-80°F or 21-27°C) with moderate humidity, but some may have specific requirements.
Ventilation:
- Ensure adequate ventilation to prevent mold and maintain proper air circulation within the enclosure. Ventilation can be achieved by using a secure lid with small ventilation holes or by using a screen top.
Feeding and Water:
- Provide a small water dish with clean, non-chlorinated water for your tarantula. Tarantulas usually get most of their hydration from their prey, so feeding them appropriately sized insects is essential for their health.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Regularly remove uneaten prey, molted exoskeletons, and waste from the enclosure to maintain cleanliness and prevent mold or bacterial growth.
Security:
- Ensure that the enclosure has secure closures to prevent escapes and protect your tarantula. Some tarantulas are fast and agile, so secure locks or clips are necessary.
Decor and Enrichment:
- While tarantulas are not typically considered interactive pets, you can add natural decor, such as fake plants or small decorations, to make the enclosure visually appealing.
It's essential to research the specific requirements of your tarantula's species, as care can vary significantly among different types of tarantulas. Properly maintaining a tarantula enclosure is crucial for the well-being of these fascinating arachnids.

User questions & answers
Question: | I don't want to use for an animal/insect so can the mesh be removed from the lid just leaving the screen to use as cover? Thanks |
Answer: | Yes, i have 1 i use just as a planted terarrium for cacti and i have the top removed so the plants can grow without hitting the top. |
Question: | will this terrarium work for a bearded dragon |
Answer: | No. Bearded Dragons grow very fast and a juvenile would outgrow any of these tank sizes within a year. I learned the hard way and had to buy a couple of tanks in the first year I got mine. A long 20 gallon terrarium accommodated her for maybe 6-8 months and after that I upgraded her to a 50 gallon. The basking rock, food dish and water dish (which they love) take up a lot of space too so that's something to consider also. |
Question: | Regarding the exo terra mini (Wide) what are the dimensions of the bottom underneath the door? Looking to make the bottom part a "tank |
Answer: | Roughly 4 - 4.5 inches |
Question: | Would this tank (12x12x12) be good for a baby corn snake? Or would the next size up be better |
Answer: | I would recommend the 18x18x18. Something I've been told is that your snake tank should be at least as long as your snake. He might be a baby now, but in another 6-12 months, the 12x12x12 is gonna be too small and you'll have to buy a new one. |

REPTI ZOO Flat Packed Mini Glass Terrarium
Glass terrariums are the preferred choice of professional Herpetologists. They offer the best viewing for your animal; they are suitable for damp and humid conditions, are hygienic and easy to clean.Glass also maintains the correct heat gradient more safely and easily-maintaining the correct heat gradient is critical to a reptile’s and amphibian’s well-being as they use external heat sources in their environment to regulate their body temperatures.
In the wild these animals move around within their habitat (from sunlight to shade, or from above ground to burrows, for example) to regulate their body temperature. If they get too cool, their metabolism slows (and in conditions that are too hot or too cold, they enter states of inactivity or hibernation).
Maintaining the appropriate temperature is vital to bodily functions such as digestion. It is important to provide the proper temperature conditions in order for the animal to grow and thrive.
For many reptiles, it is not simply a matter of providing a constant temperature, however. They require a thermal gradient, or a range of temperatures from a high end to a low end. Thus, the animal can move to a higher temperature or lower temperature to suit its needs at any given time.
Easy Assemble or Disassemble in 2 minutes
Unique design can be easily dis-assembled for transportation.

Question: | Can I put small brine shrimp (sea monkeys) in here? How many gallons is it |

Question: | Are these autoclavable |
Answer: | No. They're just plastic. |
Question: | about how much water would this hold |
Answer: | Hello,Thank you for your question. This Kritter Keeper is not meant for water, but it could hold about a gallon of water if needed.Customer CareScience Stuff, Inc. |
Question: | Could I use this for my turtle |
Answer: | An aquatic turtle needs at least 10 gallons of water per inch of carapace (shell) length. You should measure from the start of his shell (where his head is), to the end of his shell (where his tail is). Let's say for instance the shell length is 5 inches, that means you need to put him in a 50 gallon tank. If you have more than obe turtle you always go based on the carapace length of the biggest turtle then add 10 gallons per extra turtle. Also, turtles produce a large bio load (they defecate a lot and are messy eaters). This causes ammonia levels to spike in the water if they do not have a proper filter, get timely water changes, or have beneficial bacteria added to their water. You'll need to buy water dechlorinator (Reptisafe for instance) and beneficial bacteria for aquariums. Get a water test kit to make sure the pH is correct, and that you don't have an excessive amount of ammonia or nitrates in the water. Also, last but not least, turtles NEED ubv light and calcium, theres no way around this. Otherwise they get metabolic bone disease. You will need to buy a ubv bulb & a reptile light fixture to place above the turtle's basking spot (basking spots should always allow the turtle to be fully out of the water to be dry if they need to but more importantly so that they can absorb the light, d3 is important). Also provide a turtle bone or calcium block, this is what forms their shell and keeps it from going soft and getting shell rot (which WILL happen without calcium & will without fail kill your turtle). Last but not least, look up a care sheet for your turtle's specific specie online. Never ever get a pet without doing proper research on their care, counting the costs involved, and having some money set aside for a vet visit in case something goes wrong and it gets sick. All of that should be done BEFORE getting any pet, much less a reptile since reptiles require specialized husbandry. |

What’s the housing requirement for small animals
The cage needs to have a spot for your pet to sleep, a place for his food, water and treat dishes, and some space to play and run around. If your pet is out of its cage during the day to play and exercise, the cage can be smaller to accommodate just a sleeping place, food and water.
Why we need a sleeping hut
A nestbox or sleeping hut is often appreciated although not always absolutely necessary. Many small animals are nocturnal. That means they like to sleep during the day and run around at night. A hut can help your pet feel more comfortable during the sunlight hours while it is sleeping.
What kind of decors should I get
Scampering around is a favorite activity for most small animals, especially hamsters and mice. An exercise wheel or a variation of the wheel, a spinning disc, is a great choice for smaller pets. Another variation of the exercise wheel is an exercise ball. Your pet can climb into the ball and roll around the floor or on specially made tracks. Your pet can overexert itself; so don't keep it in the ball for more than 15 or 20 minutes at a time. Some small animals, such as ferrets, sugar gliders and rats like to climb on limbs. Climbing branches, bird perches and bird swings work well. They may get chewed up, but that's part of your pet's play, too!
Others caring tips
Check it's cage for chewed or damaged areas. Remove any old foods and check the toys to be sure they are still working and in good condition. Keeping your pet safe and well cared for can give both you and your pet a long and happy experience!

User questions & answers
Question: | How big are the holes? Would fruit flies be able to escape them |
Answer: | Not big. I don’t use fruit flies for feeding but the ones I get around the house in the summer wouldn’t fit through I don’t think. |
Question: | Are the holes small enough for smaller spiders |
Answer: | The spider would have to be reeeally small to get through the holes. I doubt you’d keep something so small in it. |
Question: | Would this work for my ghost mantis |
Answer: | Probably while it is a juvenile. I don't think it's large enough for a full grown one |
