Question: | What domes would this bulb fit best in |
Answer: | Large size but it’s a great bulb. for this type of bulb I’ve used several different types of domes |
Question: | Does this light support plants' needs in the animal's terrarium |
Answer: | I wouldn't use it. Use a grow light instead. |
Question: | How does a 75w basking bulb run twice as hot as this 80w mvb in a basking spot? i had to add the basking bulb to it for heat, which it shouldn't need |
Answer: | I used the 160w bulb for my bearded dragon. Just make sure they can move to a spot to cool down. He was in a 50 gallon tank. |
Question: | How far would this light penetrate? I need a bulb that will provide zone 3 (ferguson zones) light from 16" away |
Answer: | It will light up a whole room. Really bright. It will heat the room too. Sorry I don't know about your zone designation. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anybody know how quickly the uvb diminishes over time? I have heard that the claims of it lasting twice as long as Mercury vapor is not true |
Answer: | The only way to tell is to buy a uvb meter and test the light. I do not have a meter to test the validity of Retizoo UV sensor cards. They seem to work well however without a meter I cannot confirm this. |
Question: | How much UVA is emitted by this light |
Answer: | I just received mine. In comparison to the MyComfyPets 100watt 200 UVB bulb that I have in another setup: According to my reptizoo UV sensor cards, which are for approximate comparison only, this setup puts out about twice as much UV as the 100watt mercury bulb and twice as much visible light at much higher color temperature, it's almost too much really. It's very annoying in the evenings. The nice thing about this one is it has very predictable UVB output, good, uniformity and good instructions for getting it right based on your animal. At 12 inches, it is comparable to full sun for UVB and visible light, but not heat (very low infrared output). It only gets the basking spot to about 89 deg at this distance unfortunately. It's not safe to put it any closer due to the high UV output, so this bulb can not be used alone if you need higher temps than 90deg, which you probably do if your pet needs this much UVB. This would be great if you want full UVB coverage for a larger cage, but you will definitely need an additional heat source if you have a bearded dragon. Given that this only uses 70watts, this may still be a more efficient option depending on how much extra heat you need. The mercury bulbs also have this problem and are therefore not an all in one solution as claimed. |
Question: | What are the uvb output and heat production for this zoo med powersun lighting fixture compared to exo terra sunray 70w, 50w, or 35w |
Answer: | Youre better off with mercury vapor for the most part |
Question: | is this a full set? Do I have to purchase any accessories for it? how is the uv output |
Answer: | i purchased this and it did come as a full set (bulb and fixture), i did not have to purchase any accessories however i already had the lamp stand so if you do not have a stand you may want to get one as the light must be hung. it cannot sit ontop of a screen. i purchased for a large enclosure i have for a redfoot tortoise and thus far the UV output has been exactly as described by zoomed at the distance the instructions stated - please note that this bulb is an HID so if you have been using a mercury vapor bulb in the past you will have to raise the light as it can cause blindness ect if too close. IT IS VERY BRIGHT, NOTICABLE DIFFERENCE!hope this helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you put this directly on a screen facing down? That's what my setup would require... with 60W emitter bulb |
Answer: | I used to have these set directly on the screen top of my boa's aquarium. Unfortunately, he would press up against them and move them around. I was afraid he'd manage to push them off, possibly burning the carpet or worse. I decided to purchase a couple of the adjustable light stands and hung these lamps from them. |
Question: | I want to use this with a 60w heat emitter bulb, remove the clamp, & put inside the terrarium to protect my b. dragon from the bulb. Will it work |
Answer: | only if you think its safe that your dragon can't knock it over or chew on the exposed cord, I wouldn't recommend it, what happens if your not home and something like that happens |
Question: | Can this be used with the lamp stand |
Answer: | I hang these lamps from lamp stands by inserting the upward end of the stand between the pivoting adjustment and ceramic bulb holder of the clamp light. I then route the power cord back along the stand, through the hook on the extending arm, and down behind my boa's aquarium. This helps keep the lamp aimed downward over the screen. |
Question: | Would this keep an old dog warm |
Answer: | It should do a good job I put it in a fully insulated dog house had a 125 watt heat bulb in it raised a litter of 7 puppies temps at night was in the 20's some nights. |

The best fluorescent tube that we’ve ever used for our reptiles’ UVB requirements! Other tubes that we tried either don’t have adequate output in the beginning or they degrade much faster than should be expected. This UVB is necessary for your reptile’s synthesis of vitamin D3, which is essential for the effective metabolism of dietary calcium in its bones and blood. Now protected by heavy duty Kraft thick-wall tube to compensate for Amazon’s shipping inadequacies and UPS’s irresponsible abuse. Some reptiles require more or less UVB than others. Bearded dragons and similar desert reptiles require more UVB and a 10.0 tube is the better choice. Green iguanas, anoles and similar jungle / forest reptiles require less UVB and a 5.0 tube is the better choice in smaller habitats when these reptiles are younger. We also prefer to use the 5.0 tube for our translucent bearded dragons and for our silkback bearded dragons (“silkies”). This T5HO 34" UVB 10.0 Reptile Fluorescent Tube fits the Carolina Custom Cages Reptile T5HO 34" Standard Fixture & Reflector. This 34” model is perfect for oversized habitats greater than 36” in length; although it will "just fit" diagonally in our 36Lx18Wx18H model Carolina Custom Cages Terrarium. Animal should be no closer than 10” directly under the fixture and no closer than 6” diagonally from the sides or ends of the fixture. We have also included a bottle of our Chlorhexidine Solution 2%; 1 refill makes 32 oz. of working solution – just add water! This is the best cleaner for your reptile’s habitat; used and recommended by exotic animal vets for cleaning your cages and other habitat items. Basically, you spray and wipe and then if your reptile licks where you just cleaned, it won't hurt them. See also our Carolina Custom Cages’ listing for “Chlorhexidine Solution 2%; 32 oz. Sprayer, plus 2 refills” and our listing for “Chlorhexidine Solution 2%; 3 refills make 32 oz. each of working solution”.

User questions & answers
Question: | We bought a pack of 6 and one bulb was broke upon shipment. Can I return on box of 2 for a replacement pack |
Answer: | You need to contact Amazon customer service for that question but my guess is that they will ship you a new bulb to replace the broken one. |
Question: | Is this for bearded dragons |
Answer: | This lamp would provide the necessary UV light to keep a bearded dragon's bones strong and a warm spot to bask in during the day. It would be good to have a timer on these lamps to have them on 12 hrs and off 12 hrs. |
Question: | Can these go in a type a lamp |
Answer: | Any style lamp with medium base rated for 150 watts. (Medium base lampholder is your typical household lampholder) |
Question: | Do these provide both uva and uvb |
Answer: | No, just UVA |
Product description
Be sure that the lamp is unplugged and that the switch is in the OFF position before installing. Insert an appropriately rated lamp into the fixture. Securely suspend the lamp fixture in the desired safe location above your terrarium. Zoo Med Retile Lamp Stand is a good choice for suspending this lamp fixture above your terrarium as shown. This lamp fixture can get hot and is designed for use outside of the terrarium. Do not allow children or your terrarium animals to contact heat lamps or this lamp fixture.
- Ceramic socket: For use with lamps up to 100 watts
- Polished aluminum dome for maximum light and heat output
- Deep dome extends beyond the face of the lamp, preventing the lamp from sticking out"
User questions & answers
Question: | Will this dome work with a 60 watt heat emitting bulb that is 3" across and 4" tall |
Answer: | not sure...I use it for UVB bulbs...it probably will work but the bulb may be too long. |
Question: | Is it e |
Answer: | e27 is the ability to use a ceramic bulb which has to be used with a specific dome lamp fixture. if it is not the correct dome it can melt the part in which you screw the bulb into |
Question: | I read reviews for various dome lamp fixtures and have read some accounts of these fixtures causing fires. Are these a fire hazard? How safe are they |
Answer: | I have two of these domes. one for a basking bulb and one for a UVB I use outside of my bearded dragon's tank. This, like the Fluker's models, will get very hot. If you set it on your tube light fixture, it will definitely melt it. Also, the dome I had by zoo med had reflective metal inside. the reflective metal type that is on the inside of the dome can make the temperature much hotter than expected. I thought I had to buy a 100W bulb because my tank wasn't getting hot enough for my dragon. I was using a Fluker's 5.5 inch fixture that was white on the inside. When I switched to this one, my 75watt bulb became more than enough and was reaching temperatures between 90-115 degrees in the basking area of the 40 gallon tank. Needless to say, this (if it has the reflective metal on the inside) will certainly work as a basking lamp. Just keep it on top of your metal grid top and make sure it is not near anything plastic or anything that could catch fire or be easily combustable. I set mine on top of the black metal grid of my tank and its fine. |
Question: | Can I use a mercury vapor bulb with this fixture? Will the bulb fit? Will it get too hot for the fixture |
Answer: | I had the same question but the bulb I am looking at is a Zoo Med Mercury Vapor and is 100 watt, this fixture is rated at 100 watt... sounds like a match to me. I'm going to do it! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this Tiny bulb good enough for my 55gallon for a bearded dragon? It’s so much smaller then the ones I used to use |
Answer: | This bulb fits my 10 gallon tank, but you might want to get a bigger one for your 55 gallon tank. |
Question: | Are these suppose to be so dim? our other brand of uvb light is brighter |
Answer: | it is the appropriate brightness. I use these but because they don't perfectly fit the dome fixture flush on the top I did hang it. but yeah they are good lights I think |
Question: | is this product suitable for a ten gallon anole cage or is it too strong |
Answer: | It would be fine as this bulb is not designed to provide heat, just the proper UV spectrum. |
Question: | How long are the bulbs |
Answer: | The whole unit is 5 1/4 inches. The bulbs are 2 1/2, and the base with screw is 2 3/4 inches. The screw alone is 1 1/4 inches. |
