13 best 14 day fish feeders

14-day fish feeders are automatic feeding devices designed for use in fish tanks and aquariums. These feeders are especially useful for aquarium owners who need to ensure their fish are consistently fed even when they cannot be present to do so manually. Here's what you should know about 14-day fish feeders:

  1. Automatic Feeding: A 14-day fish feeder is a convenient solution for automatically dispensing fish food into your aquarium over a predetermined period, typically up to 14 days. This ensures that your fish receive regular and consistent feeding, even if you're away on vacation or unable to feed them daily.

  2. Design: These feeders typically consist of a container or hopper for holding fish food and a timer or mechanism that dispenses a controlled amount of food at scheduled intervals. The feeder may be attached to the top of the aquarium or float on the water's surface.

  3. Adjustable Dispensing: Most 14-day fish feeders allow you to adjust the amount of food dispensed and the frequency of feeding. This customization is important to ensure that your fish receive an appropriate amount of food based on their specific dietary needs.

  4. Compatibility: These feeders are designed to work with various types of fish food, including flakes, pellets, and granules. Make sure the feeder you choose is compatible with the type of food your fish require.

  5. Battery-Powered: Many 14-day fish feeders are battery-powered to ensure continued operation even during power outages. Some models use disposable batteries, while others come with rechargeable batteries.

  6. Feeding Schedule: You can program the feeder to dispense food multiple times a day or at specific times, allowing you to mimic your fish's natural feeding habits. This helps prevent overfeeding, which can lead to water quality issues.

  7. Vacation Mode: Some fish feeders have a "vacation mode" feature that extends the feeding period beyond 14 days. This is useful for longer trips away from home.

  8. Easy Installation: Setting up a 14-day fish feeder is generally straightforward. They often come with instructions on how to attach them securely to your aquarium, ensuring the food is dispensed into the water and not outside the tank.

  9. Maintenance: Regular maintenance involves refilling the food container, cleaning the dispenser mechanism, and ensuring the feeder's batteries are functional.

  10. Benefits: 14-day fish feeders provide peace of mind for aquarium owners, as they can maintain a consistent feeding schedule for their fish even when they are not available to do so manually. This can be crucial for the health and well-being of the fish.

In summary, 14-day fish feeders are automatic feeding devices designed to ensure that fish in aquariums receive regular and controlled feedings over a specified period, typically up to 14 days. They are a convenient tool for aquarium enthusiasts who want to maintain proper care for their fish even when they are away from home.

Goldfish, Shubunkins, Lionheads, Fantails

Goldfish including Shubunkins, Lionheads & Fantails can equally be fed with flakes or pellets. Flakes allow smaller fish to take smaller bites and floats on surface whereas pellets are easier to dose and sink to the bottom where larger goldfish naturally look for food. API Goldfish Food includes spirulina, to enhance the vibrant colors of your goldfish, as well as garlic for appetite appeal, and it contains brewers dried yeast to provide essential micronutrients.

Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 2 minutes.

Tropical Fish, Tetras, Angelfish, Discus, Barbs, Guppies

Most tropical fish can equally be fed with flakes or pellets. Flakes allow smaller fish to take smaller bites and float at the surface whereas pellets are easier to dose and sink to the bottom where some fish naturally look for food. API Tropical Flakes are ideal for community tanks with different species. API Tropical Pellets exist in two different sizes, therefore are suitable for smaller mouth fish such as Gouramis and baby Cichlids.

Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 3 minutes.

Bottom Feeders, Catfish, Loaches

Some fish such as Catfish and Loaches are commonly called Bottom Feeders because they find their food at the bottom of the aquarium.

API Bottom Feeders are shrimp formulated sinking pellets that will fall directly to the bottom of the aquarium. Also suitable for Plecos.

Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 30 minutes.

Algae Eaters, Plecos, Ancistrus, Otocinclus

Like other tropical fish, some bottom feeders such as Plecos, Ancistrus & Otocinclus are herbivorous, also called algae or plant-eating bottom feeder fish. They use algae as their main source of nutrients. API Algae Eater Wafers are designed for fish that would normally scrape algae off rocks, wood (or reef in the case of marine fish).

Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 2 hours.

Betta

Betta fish have an 'upper' mouth position which they use the get their food off the surface.

API Betta Fish Pellets are designed to float at the surface.

Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 2 minutes.

Tropical Algae & Plant Eaters, Swordtails, Mollies, Guppies

Some tropical fish such as Swordtails, Mollies, Guppies naturally eat plants or algae. They are called 'herbivorous' or 'algae or plant-eating fish'. These fish may eat unsightly algae but must have an additional source of food or they will starve. API Tropical Green Flakes are rich in algae and are also suitable for herbivorous cichlids such as Tropheus & Mbuna.

Feeding Guide: Feed twice a day the amount of food your fish can eat in 3 minutes.

Cichlids, Angelfish, Discus, Oscar, Convict cichlids

User questions & answers

Question: would this work for African Dwarf Frogs
Answer: It would, if it worked at all. The fact is, when I came back after five days, the block had not dissolved, so basically my fish had gone five days without food.
Question: is this product okay for seahorses
Answer: I haven't had any sea horses since age 13, several decades ago. My memory is that they ate live food, e.g. brine shrimp. If you can get them to eat this, it should sustain them.
Question: Can I cut this in half and give each half to a betta and expect it to last a week
Answer: I think so. I put a while one in my 10 gallon with 5 betta sized fish and it lasted 2-3 weeks.
Question: Has anyone successfully used this with a betta
Answer: I do not trust this product. The only time I used this product, all my fishes died, it seemed they did not eat from it at all. Only the Betta survived which I suspect he ate from the betta sinking feeding blocks that I had exclusively bought for the him... since this experience I supply the tank with other sources of vacation food and the sinking feeding blocks for the Betta.

Answer: It is a single package of 2 blocks.
Question: If I have a smaller tank (say 2 gallons) OR just need for 7 days, can I just put half the tablet
Answer: Yes, one full tablet is good for 14 days, and 1/2 tablet is good for 7 days. In reality, that tablet will probably last 9 - 10 days. I've used these things a few times and the fish were still swimming when I got back.
Question: how manu fish will this feed for a week
Answer: Depends on size of fish. I use in a 15 gal guppy tank with about 60-70 guppies and it is fine. In a larger 37 gal tank it feeds ten 3-5 inch larger fish. I use 2 blocks in each tank

Fish Mate F14 Aquarium Fish Feeder

Fish Mate

Based on 2 reviews Check latest price

Product description

This versatile feeder may be mounted on the aquarium hood or on the glass edge of the aquarium with the brackets provided. The Fish Mate F14 is suitable for feeding most popular types of tropical and cold water fish foods. With fourteen individual meal portions, it is possible to offer your fish a varied diet while you are away. Compact and reliable, the Fish Mate F14 is the ideal solution for feeding your aquarium fish while you are at work or on holiday. Fish nutritionists recommend that you feed your fish several small meals a day rather than one large one and the F14 facilitates this. In humid conditions it is recommended that a granular or pelleted type food be used rather than flake. There is also the clever option to attach an airline from a small aquarium air pump (not included) if required, this will blow dry air through the feeder to prevent the food from going stale and clogging. Suitable for small to medium sized aquariums (up to 150 litres), for larger or heavily stocked tanks use more than one feeder. Not suitable for outdoor ponds.

  • Serves up to 14 individual meals
  • Feeds all fish foods, including flake
  • Easy to use timer provides from 1 to 4 meals per day
  • Reliable and accurate quartz timer
  • Battery condition indicator

User questions & answers

Question: How does this work...how do i set it to serve 14 meals ...1 a day
Answer: There are 14 total slots that can rotate once a day. We typically feed our fish 3 pellets in the morning and 3 at night, so you can either set it up to do multiple feedings(3 pellets in each slot) (if you choose 2 times a day, it feeds up to 7 days 14/2=7 a day) or just once a day (6 pellets in each slot) (14 days). There is plenty of room in the slots for way more food!
Question: Can it be programmed to dispense every other day
Answer: YES YOU CAN. If you set it up with 1 pin it will move the feed ring once a day. So in the case that you want it to feed once every other day, just put food in every other bin using only 1 pin at desired feeding time. There are 14 usable bins since one is always over the dump hole....meaning in the above scenario you would still get 14 days worth, but feeding only 7 of those days. Using various appropriate food bins matched with appropriate pin/pins, You can also feed 1x a day for 14 days, or 2x a day for 7 days....and so on.
Question: The timer is working, but the food compartment is not moving at all and therefore, no food is pushed into the tank. Any suggestions
Answer: I set the timer for 9 am and 9 pm. No movement occurs until 9 pm rolls around. Then, SLOWLY, over two plus hrs the compartment with food moves over the hole. Could that be the case for you? Also, check to be sure food isn't restricting movement in some way. I feed algae tabs to my pleco. I must break up some of them.
Question: Can a single slot be mixed with pellets and flakes to feed at the same time
Answer: Yes - I've put both pellets and flakes in a single slot and it dispensed them fine.

I tested how much Koi sticks (T3tra) fills it and how many rotations of the container to empty it. I fit 30 grams of sticks in the chamber (don't pack it tightly). It took 26 rotations to (near) empty with the opening at max. At 2 rotations 4 times a day, it would take about 3 and a half days to empty, at max opening, for koi sticks. So at most 8-9g of koi sticks per day.
Question: How does this feeder mount on an aquarium
Answer: It's got a weighted end and a dispenser end.. The dispenser end is the one that rotates to let the feed out. You just need to either keep on top of aquarium and make sure the feeder end has an opening on the aquarium top for it to go in OR there is a mechanism to mount it from the inside also. I just keep it on the top.
Question: can i use this auto feeder for 1month
Answer: For a 29 gallon tank I bought 2 of these and have one feed in the morning and one in the evening. That way if something happens to one of them the fish will at least get fed once per day. I take a 2-3 week trip every year and never had a problem with this feeder. Most fish can survive a week or two without food, the bigger threat to them is over feeding. Better to feed smaller amounts twice per day. I also put a corner filter in the tank in addition to the external filter when I'm away for more than a week. It adds aeration should something happen to clog the main filter.
Question: What is the smallest amount of food you can dispense? What is the area of the opening on its smallest setting
Answer: The opening is covered with a sliding "door". When wide open, it creates about a 5/8" opening. It may be a touch wider than long but it is roughly a square opening when fully open. Since the door slides, it can be opened as much or as little as you like. I fiddled with mine and have determined that you can open it just to the point of being able to see light...so the smallest setting is pretty much so small as to be useless ;) I really, really like this feeder. I used it on vacation with a combination of pellet and flake food. I crushed the flake food so it wouldn't get caught crossways in the opening. I mounted an Ocean Nutrition feeding station (about $5) under the feeder to keep the food from being swept into the overflow before it could be eaten and set the door to dump about half as much food as I wanted to feed. Next I programmed it to drop food twice, five minutes apart, to give the fish enough time to eat the food before it was wasted. Lastly, I put only one week's worth of food in it in case of a malfunction. Nice, simple setup and it worked flawlessly :)
