Question:	Is it possible that the filter cartridge included with the kit is too large? It does not fit in the housing
Answer:	It should fit across the little black cup filter. Basically when you inset, it should slide down middle and divide the cup. Water coming in bottom of one side them pushed up out of the cup on other side.
Question:	I was thinking about getting this for my dorm room next year? Do you think it will work? How often to you have to clean it
Answer:	It would be great for a dorm. It's only 1 gallon. It probably depends on what you put in it, how often you have to clean it. I have a single betta fish in mine, and probably clean it every 10 days to 2 weeks. I tend to over feed mine sometimes. I don't even use the filter in it because such a small area for such a lot of water movement... And on a couple of these, the lights stopped working after a while.
Question:	can a heater tube be put in here...will i have to keep the cover off and if so will the lights still be nice looking and working
Answer:	a small under gravel heater would be all you needed for this tiny thing. With that the thin cord can fit up beside the filter with some squeezing. Anything bigger then the lid will have to be off.. but the lights will still be lovely :D

Answer:	It needs a power source, It would be cool if it ran off of batteries.

Question:	Is this tank cat proof? eeks! lol
Answer:	I'd say so. You need opposable thumbs to remove the lid. I don't know how big your cat is but mine was not strong enough to push it over. I probably still wouldn't leave it in a spot that a cat would have access to. Hope that helps. Also, wrap the light bulb in saran wrap or the water will burn it out.

It uses Tetra Whisper XS filter cartridges and we recommend replacing the cartridge every 3 to 4 weeks depending on the number of fish and amount of daily feeding. If your room temperature is between 70 degrees and 78 degrees and does not fluctuate then a heater is not required, if your fish need a warmer tank then yes, you should add a heater. Question:	The air pump needs to be higher than the water level, what kind of suction cup or holder is optimal to use for this take? And hiding it at same time
Answer:	You may want to consider using an aquarium air check valve (-- search on "aquarium check valve" for examples). This will allow air to be pumped into the tank, yet prevent water from flowing back to the air pump in the event of a power failure or whatever. The pump could then be hidden anywhere outside of the tank.

Question:	Is it made of acrylic? Or plastic
Answer:	Plastic!!! Mine arrived cracked from the top and across the bottom. Not too happy with this.
Question:	does it come as shown with everything inside
Answer:	Most fish tanks do not come with gravel , decorations , allowing for obvious taste and requirement differences by the end user. This is not a “sad” thing as someone else noted , this allows you to use your imagination ! That’s what this hobby is all about, no ?
Question:	Is this tank big enough for a beta, dwarf frog and snail? Def want the beta if the tank is too small one of the others? Have no clue what I am doing
Answer:	I have discovered that ghost shrimp are a great combination with a betta that add zero bio load. A beta might try to mess with it at first, but it will leave it alone after a day or so. It will help keep your tank clean, and they naturally help the chemical balance of the tank by disposing of... "things". ;) Hope this helps. A snail has zero bio load as well. You only want ONE SNAIL. One... that's it. You don't want to have a million snails in your tank lol. Snails are great because they eat algae. They also come in lots of different shell colors. My wife has a 5 gallon with a large half moon betta (huge at this point), a ghost shrimp (also huge), a snail, and 5 small schooling fish. I can't remember the name of the schooling fish, but they are not tetras or guppys. She deliberately got the little fish because they are faster than the betta, so he can't eat them. Now they live in peace and he has accepted their presence.The shrimp and the snail are no brainers. If you get small fish make sure you get 3-5 in a small tank like this, and make sure you get fish fast enough to get away from the betta. Also make sure the fish don't have large flappy/hanging tails. The betta is very attracted to that stuff and will attack it relentlessly. Don't get less than 3, because small fish (normally schooling) don't like to be alone.
Question:	Which replacement filter cartridge do I buy for this filter system? Also, how often does it need changed
Answer:	Don't buy replacement. Replace filter cartridge resets tank cycle and then kills 🐠. Set your own media stages. I recommend bioballs or fluval on bottom, pillow stuffing, then ammonia sponge pad on top. All can be bought from amazon relatively cheap. Then simply keep your bio media and occasionally rinse them with tank water. Once every 3-6 months I change my sponge pad. 3-6 months I rinse my stuffing with tank water. Once a year I replace stuffing. This has my fish beautiful and happy like little monsters. Be careful where you get advice because sellers are in business to make money and sell more fish when they die

Answer:	I got great stone at walmart that are used to decorate vases with flowers. They came in many colors and are clear glass. The light from the LED.shines through them well.
Question:	can you take the lid off
Answer:	Yes...the lid is simply placed on top and gently 'snaps' into place. it's not very tight but works Great for jumpy fish.
Question:	How much water does it hold
Answer:	One US gallon, or 3.7 liters. NOT ENOUGH. 1 gallon is too small for a betta - it cannot be safely heated (and betta are tropical fish! they need a heater!) and ammonia builds up too quickly. I urge you to look at something that is at LEAST 2.5 gallons, or better yet 5 gallons for a beginner. Larger setups are easier to maintain - toxins don't build up as fast and it's easier to keep a stable temperature the more water there is.

Question:	How tall is it without the base
Answer:	14" w/o light & 16" with the light...base about 1-1/8" beyond that.
Question:	Is the pump and cord supposed to be submerged in water behind the tank in the space provided? Electrical cord and water is a bit nerve wrecking
Answer:	Yes, that's where it goes. No worries, though. It's a standard water pump (& its cord) designed to be submerged. Your fish won't get electrocuted...unless you have an electric eel swimming around. ;)
Question:	What is the difference between this tank and the Marineland Contour
Answer:	I called Marineland and they told me the only difference between the Portrait 5 gallon and the Contour 5 gallon is in the curvature of the lighting system. The lights themselves are identical (9 white LEDs and 6 blue LEDs). They also advised me that they are no longer making the Contour 5 gallon because except for the minor difference in the lighting structure they are exactly the same tank with the same filtration components. FWIW, I bought the 5 gallon Portrait and am very happy with it.
Question:	Can I buy this for my Betta fish
Answer:	This tank is an excellent choice for bettas, thanks for asking! The pump is fully adjustable, down to 35 gph, and the size is perfect for a betta fish. You can place a heater in the front portion of course, and it is easy to maintain.

Question:	Is the filter flow gentle enough for a Betta
Answer:	We have 1 small glo-fish in the tank and the filter is very gentle as it doesn't push the water around too much. It is extremely quiet also

Answer:	It'd probably be a little different. These are just blue led lights....
Question:	Is there a way to replace the blue LEDs with white or clear bulbs
Answer:	Just buy one of those 7 and 1/2 in simple multi color blue LED they sell here it looks like a clear cigar tube and there is a strip of lights in them and you even get a remote control with it for multiple colors so that a limited eliminates the need to put something up on the hood with ceiling that which that's a good idea by the way that guy had a good idea but what I'm talkin about I think they're twelve bucks I think it's made by simple and I bought several of them here it looks like a little clear cigar tube with suction cups and it's submersible and it comes with the RGB remote
Question:	Where is the filter located inside of the assembled tank
Answer:	Hi. There is no lid on the top of the aquarium and the filter sits on the right hand side. It's a nice filter does a great job. We clean it once a week and replace the charcoal bag once a month. The yearly cost for the filters is about 11.99. It has a nice waterfall effect to it. My daughter who changes her mind so many times a day is still in love with her glo fish tank. I hope this helps.

Step 1:

To prepare for setup, rinse your gravel and decor with water, do not use soap or chemicals.

Find a flat place, preferably on a manufactured aquarium stand (for warranty purposes), away from direct sunlight and heating and air conditioning vents.

Add gravel, creating an upward slant to add depth.

Step 2:

Do not plug equipment in until water has been added.

Fill the tank with water, which has been dechlorinated with GloFish(R) Water Conditioner, to roughly 75%-90%.

After your heater and filter have had a few hours to run, you can safely add fish.

Start by floating your bag from the store in the aquarium until the temperature of the water in the bag is the same as the water in your tank.

Do not directly pour your fish into the aquarium as it may be dirty. Gently net your fish out of the store bag and add to aquarium.

Answer:	I always mix the water conditioner into the water before putting the fish back in the tank. I clean the tank and then put the recommended amount of "dirty" water (what the fish has already been living in since it has the beneficial bacteria in it necessary for a healthy environment) back in the tank and fill the tank the rest of the way up with fresh water. Then I add the water conditioner to the tank and mix it into the dirty / fresh water before reintroducing the fish back in to the tank.

Question:	what kind of heater would be best for this tank for bettas
Answer:	Note that the response that states that Betas do not need a heater is absolutely incorrect. Betas are a tropical fish, and the optimal water temperature is 76-82 degrees F. Unless you live in a tropical climate and no not have air conditioning, room temperature in most instances will be far too cold, and will make the fish sluggish and prone to illness. Will it live for a couple months, yes. But under the right conditions, it can live years. Currently, I have a Beta in a 1-gal plastic tank (not this one yet, I'm looking to up-size) with a heater designed for Betas that will keep the water temp 10 degrees warmer than the room temp, which accounts for most people keeping their thermostat between 65-70 degrees. However, pay attention to the gallon rating of the heater. This is a 3 gallon tank, and will require a more substantial heater. I have never had any problem sticking the heater directly to the plastic. Think about it, the fish swims right by the heater. It can't get so hot as to melt plastic, or it would super heat the water in that area and cook the fish.
Question:	Can you use the bubbler without the lights
Answer:	Yes. The air stone gets fueled from the air intake which is on a separate electrical lead from the LEDs. Even if you don't use the lights, you still have to wrangle that wire out of the tank. The most difficult thing is keeping the air stone weighted down by the rocks. It came loose and floated up so many times that I stopped using it.
Question:	what size filters for Tetra 3 gallon
Answer:	The half moon tank comes with a small filter. I have 2 half moon tanks, and I love them! I have had mine going on 2 years. The filters will need to be renewed within a year to 1/12 yrs to keep your fish healthy.
Question:	Do you recommend to purchase live plants or silk plants for this tank? Do the live plants make the tank much dirtier
Answer:	I use live plants in all my tanks. Live plants give out oxygen, remove CO2, and depending on the fish they may also snack off of them. I have never had an issue with my live plants making my tanks feel dirty and since I have switched from silk to live I'd had a much higher survival rate with my fish. Just make sure you get hardy plants that can survive with regular indoor lighting or you'll have issues with them living in this tank without making modifications.

Answer:	Considering the species you wish to keep, we would recommend one male guppy to two or three females (keep in mind they breed like rabbits) or a group of 5 to 8 male guppies, and at least 3 or 4 corydoras catfish of the same variety. Total number of fish should be 10-12. As to shrimp, that will depend a little on what type but typically for this size tank, about 4 to 6 should be fine. Add these first so they can grow to a mature size and not be eaten by the fish. Provide plenty of plant coverage as well.

Answer:	the person who answered amazon, simply not true. 55gallon and larger petsmart hands down. 55 gallon and smaller walmart hands down. you can get 20gallon kit at walmart for $80 and 55 gallon for $180. on amazon 20gallon kit is $100-120 and 55 gallon is $380-400. i got 125gallon kit from petsmart for $600-$700. Amazon kind of expensive for aquariums actually cause even tho it says free shipping your paying for shipping in the price cause aquariums aren't cheap to ship. petsmart and walmart can get around that cause they can just throw it on a truck with everything else already being delivered to that store. just you have to go pick it up at store cause they wont ship it to your house.

Answer:	Hi Shay, thanks for your question, it made me smile! There are no self-cleaning aquariums. Filters reduce your maintenance. Without a filter, you would do a partial water change every 1-2 days with a gravel vacuuming. With filtration in place, you typically do a good vacuuming and 30% water change every 30 days for a tank this size, but that is dependent on the types of inhabitants, and the quantity of them. Replace filter media monthly, and take the filter system apart every couple of months. Once your tank has been up for a month or so, begin adding Tetra EasyBalance Plus weekly to help reduce the frequency of water changes, and maintain water quality in between them.
