12 best coco store fish tank gravels
Coco store fish tank gravels, also known as aquarium substrate, are materials placed at the bottom of fish tanks and aquariums. They serve several essential functions in aquatic environments and are commonly used by fishkeepers to enhance the aesthetics and overall health of the aquarium. Here's what you need to know about Coco store fish tank gravels:
Aesthetic Appeal: Coco store fish tank gravels come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, allowing aquarists to create visually appealing underwater landscapes. The choice of gravel can mimic natural aquatic environments, such as sandy beaches, rocky riverbeds, or lush plant beds, depending on the desired aesthetic.
Aquarium Health: Gravels play a crucial role in maintaining the overall health of the aquarium ecosystem. They provide a substrate for live aquatic plants to root and grow, which helps oxygenate the water and remove harmful chemicals like ammonia and nitrites.
Biological Filtration: Beneficial bacteria that aid in biological filtration often colonize the surface area of the substrate. These bacteria break down fish waste and other organic matter, converting harmful substances into less toxic compounds.
Fish Comfort: Fish and aquatic creatures may interact with the substrate in various ways. Some species like to dig or sift through the gravel, while others may use it as a hiding place. The choice of gravel can influence the comfort and natural behaviors of the fish.
Plant Support: If you have live aquatic plants in your aquarium, Coco store fish tank gravels provide a stable base for their roots to anchor and absorb nutrients. Different plant species may require specific types of substrate, such as fine sand or nutrient-rich planting substrates.
Cleaning and Maintenance: Regular maintenance of the substrate is essential. Over time, debris and uneaten food may accumulate in the gravel, potentially causing water quality issues. Aquarists typically use tools like gravel vacuums to siphon and clean the substrate during water changes.
Gravel Types: Coco store fish tank gravels are available in various types, including natural river gravel, colored aquarium gravel, sand, and specialty substrates for specific needs like planted tanks or marine environments.
Size Selection: The size of the gravel or substrate can influence the ease of cleaning and the comfort of fish. Larger gravel may allow waste to accumulate less and offer a better anchor for larger plants.
Rinsing Before Use: It's essential to rinse Coco store fish tank gravels thoroughly before adding them to the aquarium. This helps remove excess dust and debris, preventing cloudiness in the water.
Compatibility with Aquarium Equipment: Consider how the choice of substrate may affect other aquarium equipment, such as undergravel filters or mechanical filters. Some substrates may not be suitable for certain filtration methods.
Coco store fish tank gravels are a fundamental component of aquarium setup, contributing to the overall aesthetics and functioning of the aquatic environment. The choice of gravel should align with your aquarium's specific requirements, including the types of fish, plants, and equipment you plan to use, as well as your aesthetic preferences.Proper maintenance and care of the substrate are essential to maintain water quality and ensure a healthy, thriving aquarium ecosystem.

User questions & answers
Question: | What type of rock is used in the gravel |
Answer: | I have used the knife blade in my Cricut Maker to cut through thick leather, probably 3/16" thick. The problem I had was getting it to stick to my strong grip mat. (see caution at the end) Cutting smooth side down didn't stay. Placing rough side down destroys the mat. Transfer tape did not stick. I solved the problem with gaffer's tape! (available from Amazon). I use pro-gaff brand. Completely covered the rough side of the leather, placing the tape edge to edge, not overlapping. It stuck to the mat GREAT! CAUTION: IF THE LEATHER SLIPS WHILE YOU ARE CUTTING IT, YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR MACHINE! I BROKE THE PLASTIC GUARD AROUND THE BLADE BEFORE I LEARNED TO USE GAFFER'S TAPE! |
Question: | If I put this on top of my soil for my houseplants will it kill them |
Answer: | If you don't have the Cricut knife blade and housing you will have to purchase the Cricut knife blade and then the replacement you have to change them out |
Question: | How many bags for my 10 gallon tank |
Answer: | Yes, this blade is for the New Cricut Maker Machine, which is the only machine that uses this blade due to the type of technology that Provo Craft created for this machine. |
Question: | Can i use it for my succulent plants? Thanks a lot |
Answer: | As far as the expressions parts list no it will not fit |

Experience the Glo!
GloFish were originally bred to help scientists in detecting environmental pollutants. By adding a naturally derived fluorescence gene to the fish, scientists hoped to quickly and easily determine when a waterway was contaminated. Scientists soon realized the public’s interest in sharing the benefits of this research and GloFish were officially brought into the marketplace.
GloFish acquire their fluorescent color via a fluorescent protein gene that they inherit from their parents and pass on to their offspring through traditional breeding. Because of this, each line of GloFish originates from a single fish. For example, all Starfish Red Danios are descended from a single red fluorescent zebrafish.
GloFish are available in 3 species: GloFish Danio, GloFish Barb, and GloFish Tetra. Aside from their brighter disposition, each species is identical to their non-fluorescent counterparts. This includes everything from general care and temperature preferences, to growth and nutritional needs.
GloFish come in six stunning fluorescent colors including Starfire Red, Sunburst Orange, Electric Green, Cosmic Blue, Galactic Purple, and Moonrise Pink.

User questions & answers
Question: | I want this as a substrate but I really want the white sand look. Does this come in white and if not, would I be ok with putting white sand on top |
Answer: | I have 7 cory cats, 4 dojo loaches and 3 hillstream/chinese loaches and they don't mind it at all. It is like sand, I have the fine black one and I got it just for them...well and my plants too! |
Question: | is this too much for a ten gallon tank? should I get a smaller bag or is this good |
Answer: | I didn't wash it, because it contains beneficial bacteria. I had no issues. It did not make the water cloudy at all. I don't recommend washing it. |
Question: | Can i use this with gravel? i want to put this as a bottom layer then put gravel on top or mix. can i vacuum it |
Answer: | Yes you can add it into and established tank, that is what I did, I had a tank full of black sand and I removed all of my plants and driftwood int o a food safe container filled with siphoned tank water, then I removed my fish and placed them into food safe containers. Then I removed 75-80% of the sand from my tank, cleaned the debris that was left over and poured in the Eco complete in, mixing it in with the sand. I had reserved my tank water and poured it back into a container, although unlike other substrates this does not cloud the water. After I filled the tank about 25% I added the plants and driftwood back, then added some more water and my fish and topped the tank off with fresh water. It was a half day process but well worth it, something I would do again! |
Question: | I have a loach and he loves to dig and stick his nose out. Is this a soft ground or rough |
Answer: | It all depends on the length/dimensions of your tank. I used it on my 50 gallon that is 36" long and only needed about 2 1/2 bags to get 3 inches. If you have a tall tank the less substrate you will need. |

User questions & answers
Question: | the description for this item reads 7k / 15.4 lbs but the item pictured reads half that 3.5k / 7.7 lbs; which is correct for the item |
Answer: | The container I received had 15.4 lbs., someone made an error. |
Question: | Will my plants live with only this substrate |
Answer: | I have only this substrate in my 29 gallon and it is sufficient to grow plants. I recommend periodically supplementing with Flourish in order to maximize plant growth, but a decent group of fish will provide enough nutrients for decent plant growth. |
Question: | How do you clean this stuff on a regular basis? I read some where not to use the handheld tube vacuum |
Answer: | Tube vacuum should work fine. I’d imagine whom ever wrote that hadn’t rinsed it very well and kicked up a ton of sediment. It’s really just chips of clay, nothing that should interfere with a vac any more than a gravel would! |
Question: | How does it taste |
Answer: | I haven't tasted it myself but my plants seem to really like it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do i need this of i have well water |
Answer: | If 5ml = 1GL For 10Gl u need 50 ml. |
Question: | Can betta fish live with guppies |
Answer: | I would usually wait about 10 to 15 minutes before adding the fish and it worked. Hope that helps. |
Question: | Why does the new bottle need 14 drops per gallon instead of 7? Did the formula/ingredients change or just the directions |
Answer: | I always mix the water conditioner into the water before putting the fish back in the tank. I clean the tank and then put the recommended amount of "dirty" water (what the fish has already been living in since it has the beneficial bacteria in it necessary for a healthy environment) back in the tank and fill the tank the rest of the way up with fresh water. Then I add the water conditioner to the tank and mix it into the dirty / fresh water before reintroducing the fish back in to the tank. |
Question: | Can I add this to my 5 gallon tank between water changes? I used filtered water and plan on changing the water every 10-14days |
Answer: | I don’t use distilled water so, I’m sorry, but I can’t answer that. |

Question: | whats the difference btwn torpedo beach and Natural crystal river. which ones is larger grain |
Answer: | Torpedo is .5 mm - 2.0mm , crystal is .5mm - 1.0mm |
Question: | can you use it with live plants |
Answer: | Yes. My tanks are planted fairly heavily with live plants and my substrate is this product only. Suppose it depends on which plants you have though. I have Amazon swords, anubias, some crypts, an unidentified tall and fast growing plant with slender leaves, java moss, java fern, and ludwigia repens. All do well. |
Question: | Is this good for a Betta fish tank |
Answer: | If you have it pretty thinly covering the bottom, yes. But if you want depth then I wouldn't recommend. It discolored easily if not oxidized. When I gravel vac and stir up sand to release any trapped gases, the sand beneath is a horrible grey color for a few days before going back to original color. |
Question: | Is it really sand? It looks more like gravel |
Answer: | It feels looks and feels like sand. |

Developed by Hermit Crab Specialists, Fluker's Premium Sand Substrate mixture is the perfect blend of sand, coconut fiber, salt and calcium carbonate that ensures a perfect consistency for burrowing crabs. Probiotic is also added to help breakdown organic waste in your pet's enclosure. Fluker's All Natural Premium Sand Substrate Mixture for Hermit Crabs
Hermit crabs are natural diggers. They dig to hunt for food and when it is time to molt. It is very important to fill your crab's habitat with enough moist sand for the molting process. The proper amount of sand is three times deeper than the height of your largest crab's shell. The deep moist sand protects your crab during the molting process and prevents dehydration, which is vital for your crab's longevity.
Unlike the calcium carbonate "sand" often sold as hermit crab substrate, Fluker's Premium Sand for Hermit Crabs is a perfect blend of all-natural sand, coconut fiber, sea salt and probiotic. The silica sand packs swell and the coconut fiber helps with water retention. Calcium and sea salt are added to replicate the exact sand hermit crabs find in their natural environment. Finally, probiotic has been introduced to help maintain a clean environment.
Hermit crabs need plenty of space to thrive. It is extremely important to select an enclosure large enough to satisfy their needs.
DIRECTIONS:
Fill tank evenly with Fluker's Premium Sand. The minimum depth should be at least three times the size of your largest hermit crab. Moisten the sand with purified water so it packs well. (The consistency should be what you would use to build a sand castle.) Once installed, you should check the substrate periodically to ensure that it stays moist.
