User questions & answers
Question: | Is the lid cat-proof |
Answer: | I don't have turtles so I'm not sure this will be 100% accurate. I love this filter - I have had it for over a year (and a larger Zoomed for over 2 years) I seldom clean my filter - I know sounds gross but my tanks stay clean even with Cichlids. You're able to see in the bottom to know if it needs cleaning and I go by that - probably once every other month - although I do water changes every 2 weeks. I have another filter that is so disgusting to clean (and start) I highly recommend going with Zoomed. |
Question: | How loud/quiet is the filter? I work in an office with cubicles and don't want a tank that has a noisy filtration system |
Answer: | I use this filter on a 30 gallon turtle tank and it does a good job and the noise level is very low ( a 1 on your scale). I keep the water level high enough that the outpore from the filter has no splash noise. |
Question: | Where did you put the heater and what kind of heater should I get? Thanks |
Answer: | Here's a little trick. I let tubing sit in HOT water while I'm cleaning rest of filter. By the time I get to the tubing, hot water makes it soft and flexible, so I go along inch by inch, folding and twisting the tube, and that loosens up the accumulated gunk. Then run hot water through to flush out gunk and repeat process. I resorted to this bc couldn't find brush long enough w/soft bristles that wouldn't scratch tube interior, which would cause rough surface to accumulate more gunk. It's time consuming, but I've been cleaning filter tubes this way for almost a year and they look like day one. But regarding your specific situation, a week for algae to grow in tubes seems quick, so you may not want to use this cleaning method so frequently (mine takes a month for algae growth), but rather find an algae-treatment instead, like a UV sterilizer. |
Question: | Do you have to replace the filter block, or the bio rings |
Answer: | The filter that can take up to that many gal per tank. A filter with a limit of 60 gal won't do much good with more then 60 gal. I use this filter on my 60 gal tank but I only put 40 gal in it. And I use 2 reverse power heads with underground filtration for my turtle and I only have to clean the filter 3 times a year. You can use 2 60 gal filters for your largest tank. Id go for the the filter that goes up to 75 gal for your 65 gal tank. |

User questions & answers
Question: | whats the inner diameter of the hose |
Answer: | it is a small tank because it is divided holds about 2 gallons of water for the entire tank |
Question: | is it 50hz or 60hx |
Answer: | They take the aqueous 2000 deluxe replacement cartridges |
Question: | What do you have to do to clean/replace material on the inside? Better than the cleaner that sits on the back of the aquarium |
Answer: | Most tetra species get more than 1.5 inches each at adult size. Some species of tetras getting up to 4.5 inches adult size. Putting tetras in this small of a tank is not recommended, because it will stunt them pretty bad and will shorten their life span. Professionally we recommend tetras to be in no less than 10 gallons. They do best in schools of 4 to 6 or more and need to be kept between 78-80 degrees as they are prone to stress and disease if kept in cooler water. Avid tetra owner for 15 years. Just my two cents. |
Question: | Does this filter come with a spray bar |
Answer: | I have this tank and it’s cool but as soon as we went to clean is it was a mess. Normally I do a 20 percent water change and this makes u do 50. Also my bettas have hated the flow of the tank and I’m in the process of getting new tanks for all 3 bettas |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you change the light |
Answer: | It's a great filter but you will/should by the EHEIM top skimmer...that solves your problem. If I don't use the top skimmer I will get a film eventually. It also depends on the tank. I would say if your tank is less than 120G you should have no problem - greater ... get the EHEIM as an addition. |
Question: | Will this work for the Fluval Fx |
Answer: | We've had our filter for just under a year. No leaks. No complaints at all with this filter. Easy, quiet, all around great. |
Question: | Does it come with any tubing |
Answer: | I have had the Fluval Fx6 Canister filter on my 125 gal saltwater tank for several months now with no problems at all. It is low maintenance but keeps my water crystal clear. It is a good way to go in my opinion. It was very easy to set up and cleaning is like any other canister but I don't have to it as often. |
Question: | Will this work for a sunsun |
Answer: | I've been using the Fluval FX5 on my 100 gallon red eared slider turtle tank for about 12 years now. It's worked flawlessly over the years. I'm about to replace it with the FX6 due to various things starting to get worn out. So yes it does have pretty good longevity. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If I put this in a new tank how quickly will it cycle the tank? Will the bacteria stay in the tank or die off after a bit? Is it cycled permanently |
Answer: | Well not 100% but I would say yes. There is only a small opening over the light for cats to possibly reach in, however unlikely that may be. Unless your cats lift the lid up and over or reach in at a weird angle it should be fine. |

Answer: | The filter is very quiet. I have the tank right on my desk, and I never notice any noise. |
Question: | What size bottle is recommended for a 6 gallon tank |

Question: | How much do I need for setting up a new 75g freshwater tank |
Answer: | The charcoal block every 3-4weeks, the biomax insert every 6 months. You don't have to replace the foam block, and the imserts are fairly cheap. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit a 55 gallon |
Answer: | I would recommend API Stress Zyne Plus. My fish kept dying for the first few weeks. It took almost 8 weeks to for the tank to cycle. So get 2 or 3 fist to start and nothing fancy. Keep testing for Amonia levels. Once the tank cycles, it should be at 0. Then you can get fish you want to keep. |
Question: | I have a 55 gallon that is just shy of 47 1/2”, I know it says 48-60 but what is the measurement of the light fixture itself |
Answer: | The directions state 25 ml per 10 gallons on day 1 (100 ml) and then 10 ml per 10 gallons on day 2 and 3 (40 ml per day) so a total of 180 ml for your 40 gallon breader. I do a sustainment treatment every week of 5 ml per 10 gallons (another 20 ml). I think this is a great way to get and keep a large colony of beneficial bacteria. Good luck with the new tank! |
Question: | My fluval tank already has brackets installed to the backof glass for lighting. Can this light be attached to those or does it have to sit on top |
Answer: | The smaller 4 oz size would be great for a 6 gallon tank. It would last for quite awhile but not so long you would not have fresh product available when you do reorder. Add a few drops to your filter after cleaning it to jump start beneficial enhancers there as well. |
Question: | what's the voltage range? will it work in Europe, 220v |
Answer: | If you're looking to set up a new tank, i'd use the biggest bottle possible; the more bacteria the better the start you'll have. However, this is not a product i generally recommend, because the bacteria contained in these bottles are temporary spot holders for the real bacteria to colonize your filter after a few weeks. I'd rather you get microbelift's nite out II or Dr tims one and only (a bit more expensive), which contains the actual bacteria your filter needs. |

Question: | What all does is come with |
Answer: | yes, you can clean it. |
Question: | Is this a bow front or rectangle shape? And what is included in the kit |
Answer: | I purchased our's two years ago and measured it for you: 7W x 17H. It is entirely possible that the dimensions may vary. It is unubtrusive in our living area and projects a wonderful, gentle heat that warms a room approximately 18 x 20 with a 14 high ceiling. Extremely quiet and efficient, when rotating. |
Question: | is the filter quiet |
Answer: | We just put in a few drops of essential oil on the foam, slide in place and you can smell it right away, works Great 👍🏼 |
Question: | What are the dimensions of the tank |
Answer: | fully off. Just the on off symbol is lit but does not respond |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is the actual light itself inches |
Answer: | Either a smart phone or tablet is needed to use this light to its full extent. You can turn it on or off with out the app, but u can not adjust brightness or color without the app. The light will not be at max brightness if u turn it on manually, again the app is needed... so long story short do not buy this light with out a smart phone or tablet. |

Product description
Premium, research-grade, low-ash Fluval Carbon is highly porous, providing large amounts of surface area for absorption of impurities present in aquarium water. The inner matrix structure provides a large porous area that permanently traps organic waste while removing liquid wastes such as urine, dyes or many other impurities from the water. The activated carbon effectively removes heavy metals, odors, discolorations, organic contaminants and pollutants to leave your aquarium water crystal clear and sparkling. It does not contain phosphates and will not change the pH of the aquarium water. Fluval Carbon is pure activated carbon that is ideal in both fresh and salt water.
Fluval first broke onto the aquatic scene in 1975 by introducing the world’s first 3-stage filter with synchronous motor technology – a landmark breakthrough that is still applied in the industry today. Since then, Fluval has built a legacy around this pioneering spirit, relentlessly adapting in a changing world to launch innovative aquarium products that remain at the forefront of technology, and which set the bar in quality, style and functionality. Above and beyond its manufacturing role, Fluval prides itself on its charitable and educational efforts that give back to the fishkeeping community, whether it means helping to fund the protection of wild coral reefs or jumping on a plane to document endangered fish species halfway around the world. Fluval’s mission is not just about building products that mimic the natural world, but inspiring aquarists of all skill levels to enjoy and respect the hobby for generations to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | I have a fluval 406 canister filter any want who recomended me this product to keep the water clean?? Or any good product for a turtle tank |
Answer: | You will need something. This provide no aeration. You will need a Venturi device of some kind. I'm aware of any in-line adapter, and the Venturi pump I got is away to strong for most tanks.. Air pump are noisy as crap, avoid them. I would probably just use a U3 in Venturi mode in addition. I have one of those running on my 50 gallon tank although I changed the media to matrix. |
Question: | Are the particles large enough to take out of the bag? i have a small tom filter and they no longer make the cartidges, so i just need a small amount |
Answer: | re: Fluval 206 cannister filter: I think it is a design flaw of the cannister or cheap o rings. My cannister starting leaking, so I bought two new o rings. They leaked too. I'm going to purchase another new o ring and if that leaks....I'm chunking this filter. |
Question: | Why does it say " ; Use carefully when keeping live plants" in the last sentence above where the benefits are listed at the top |
Answer: | For the 306, the canister itself is around 14" tall. With the levers and rigid outputs on the top, it measures around 18" (or maybe a little less). From out the top, the hoses attach (but they are flexible). The directions say to keep the hoses straight, but we found that nearly impossible in our cabinet, where the hoses take a bit of a turn out the back and up. By the way, this filter works great! We have a 30 gallon tank and bought the 306 model; the water is balanced and crystal clear. |
Question: | how often does this have to be changed |
Answer: | I didn't say a hang over the side filter is more difficult service, I said servicing the canister style filter is easier, and here's why. #1 Because canister filters are a more efficient design, servicing them is not a high priority in keeping your aquarium in good healthy condition. I am not familiar with the type you have but all HOB filters are right there in plain sight, where as canister style filters are out of sight, neither has any thing to do with servicing them but from the view point of your aquarium being a focal point in the room, the less machinery that is exposed the better. I run 3 Fluval 406 canister filters on my 100 gallon planted fresh water tank. Some say that's over kill. I have never heard anyone say your should not over filter your water, in fact I don't think you can. When you service one of these, everything stays in place. You simply turn it off, close the aqua valve, unsnap the power head and remove the canister to the kitchen sink and do your thing. You reinstall it empty of water, so less chance of a spill, snap the power head on, open the aqua valve, wait about 30-45 seconds while the canister fills and flip the on button. I do mine twice maybe three times a year but not because of poor water quality, because the outflow is below what it should be. First time I gave you the short answer, here's the longer one. The bottom line is a filter is a filter is a filter. I like the fact that mine are out of sight, all together, sitting on a foam pad to absorb noise and vibration. My air pump hangs in mid air under the aquarium. Best way to kill the vibration and noise. I used monofilament fishing line to hang the air pump. I have an Aqueon AQ4500 submersible water pump that I adapted so you can screw a garden hose to it, for water changes. It's rated close to 1200 US Gallons per hour, which is right about 20 gallons a minute, so I don't spends much time doing that. Aquarium's can be many things, from beautiful to the worst thing you have ever experienced. They can time consuming or not. There is some joy in doing maintenance, but when it becomes a burden, there's not much joy. I have tried to make mine as self sufficient as possible and or very easy to repair or service and the simple things like feeding, sometimes is not easy if your having to look for filter cords and air pump cords and anything else that needs to be stopped, fishing around in a jumble of wires looking for the correct one's to unplug for feeding, I built a control panel that is attached to the end of my aquarium stand. Everything electrical in my tank goes through the control panel. I flip five or six switches and I'm feeding. All filters are off, air stone is off, circulation power heads are off and heaters are off. I'm sure you have heard of the KISS clique? Keep It Simple Stupid. So like I said earlier, I like my machines in the engine room to keep my aquarium un-cluttered and as natural as I can. I hide everything in the tank as best as I can and it seems like I'm always dreaming up a better way or someone gives you a tip and off you go. I guess the bad part is the fact that you never have an aquarium that's big enough. The longer you have it, the smaller it gets, or it seems like that. Enjoy the hobby, it will last you a life time even if there are times when you do not have an aquarium for whatever reason. Like bicycles and roller skates, once you got it, you got it for life. And once you graduate from HOB's to canister's you'll never go back. I have 2 of them somewhere, don't know the brand or the size but sometimes someone or some reason or something happens and there is a need for a filter and what quicker way to get it running than an HOB. They do the job and they get returned to the misc parts bin when no longer needed where they await their next adventure. |
