| Answer: | I don't know about Oscar excrements, but I have 3 Red eyed slider turtles, and they are like playdo factories when it comes to eating and...the EHEIM vacuum sucks everything up. I find if I did it every week (which I often forget to do) I don't have to clean the filter as often. I have the Filstar L filter or whichever one is for 175 gallons in a 50 gallon tank and because turtles do create much more excrement than fish have read you need a filter twice the size of the recommended gallons. I also think the use of the EHEIM vacuum has been great. I read lots of reviews before I bought the EHEIM and did not see a complaint. One pieve of advise was to tilt it when putting it down in the tank to start the vacuum (if it doesn't seem like it is sucking) and found that to be good advise to have before owning it. Hope this helps. |

| Answer: | Yes you can use in a bare bottom tank. If the fluted is causing issues, you can remove that section (or cut the flutes off). As this is fully submersible up to 3 feet deep, that should be just fine. If yours cuts out after you submerse the battery compartment, you have either a bad O-ring on the top of a bad factory sealing job where the wiring enters the battery compartment at the bottom.WE have a 120G bare bottom tank that is about 26" deep & use this. Not the greatest suction, but works. |

If you poke it into the gravel then pull back and let it work for a sec than all good. Same with sand though it is more difficult to control, but is possible. I had a 150gal with 3” of sand with stingrays on top. I was able to clean the sand no problem. |

I'm not sure about its max memory; the highest offered from HP with this rig is 16GB. If you really need to go above that, two factors affect this: processor type and OS level. Since this is an x64 machine, the max memory under Win7 Pro should be 192GB. x86 machines have a max of 4GB no matter the OS; Home versions of Win7 have varying limits from 8 to 16. Careful if you're upgrading to 10 that the machine will still handle the max 192GB; I haven't tried that. |
