Answer:	This is a GREAT question, Eduardo V.! I am so glad you asked, because it is all about the proper environment and care for the turtle! First, a turtle requires a minimum of 10 gallons of water for every inch of shell diameter. So a 5 inch turtle, for example, requires a tank with 50 gallons of water in it. Second, they require a partial water change of at least 25% (1/4) once a week. Third, they require a lot of filtration. The tank and filter pictured here, for example, is suitable for hatchling turtles up to about 2." in size. A hatchling is the diameter of a quarter to give you an idea. It's a great starter tank for baby turtles, and if you are diligent about care, can work for about a year to a year and a half. Adult turtles of 5" or more should be housed in tanks of 75 gallons or larger, with their water filtered by large canister filters. Algae accumulates due to an over abundance of waste. This can also be due to the diet that that is being fed. Turtles have nutritional needs, just like any other animal, and lettuce, hamburger, goldfish, etc., are not included in those needs. Step 1: Clean

Begin by cleaning out your tank with tap water (do not use soap or chemicals on aquarium or plants).

Step 2: Rinse

Rinse the Decorative ReptoFilter unit and place in the rear corner of the aquarium. Rinse gravel thoroughly until water runs clear, then add to aquarium bottom. Next, rinse the basking platform and any plants or decorations and arrange as desired.

Step 3: Add Water

Question:	How long doesn the UV light need to be on for, it didn't come with instruction of how much time to leave it on
Answer:	Ten hours a day should be about right. When I first got this turtle tank, I had just found an injured hatchling turtle in my driveway, about which I knew nothing. For the first few weeks, I kept the light on only a few hours in the evening, because I figured that Grendel the Turtle got plenty of sunlight during the day through the southern window that I ensconced him by. I didn't know that Grendel wasn't getting the light that he needed through the window until he woke me up one night belting out that great old tune "Let the Sunshine In!" by The Fifth Dimension. That's when I learned that sunlight through glass didn't do the trick for Grendel. I've since learned from reputable authorities that keeping the light on ten to 12 hours a day will suffice.
Question:	I did not receive the bulb with my tank. What is the wattage so I can buy one from the store

Answer:	We have a very small Turtle, 1.5 inches in diameter. The sides are easily 3.5 inches. Leave the non-water area level with rocks so it can't climb. Works well so far for the Turtle's size.
Question:	does the UV light lamp burn the plastic tank
Answer:	It might if you placed the bulb directly onto the plastic frame, but I can't imagine you doing that. More important, though, the Totally Terrific Turtle Teachers that I've read seem generally agreed that you should keep the light a foot to a foot-and-a-half above your turtle's shell. So ensuring that your turtle isn't toasted will also ensure that your turtle tank doesn't pull a Wicked Witch of the West and melt.

Answer:	The pump kind of pulls the water through the filters and the stones, it doesn't seem like it would filter much but I have had this for 2 years in a 55 gallon tank with a turtle, Algae eater and a few fish and it's amazing. I've never had to clean the tank and the water is crystal clear.
Question:	What happen if i pass the max line
Answer:	Going past the max line will result in the pre filtered water and the filtered water mixing together - you also wouldn't have a dry land area.
Question:	I have one in my 20 gal tank. Love it. But want to move turt to a 40 gal tank and cant figure out what to do to make it fit. Can anyone explain
Answer:	The tank has to be 12 inches deep, front to back. Mine is in a 40 gal tank so you must have a 40 gal high? My tank has the same dimensions as a 55 gal tank but the 55 is taller.

Answer:	Yes, it will leave the other part of the tank open. If you're having trouble with an escape artist, you should either put less water in the tank or move objects that allow the turtle to climb over the edge.
Question:	Hi, I have a 1 year old red ear slider who is between 3 and 4 inches across. He likes to escape. Will he be able to with this platform
Answer:	My guy is an escape artist and he got the clear topper off first night! The wire piece clips in securely but the clear plastic top has no clips or anything to keep it on and its a very thin overlap on the bottom piece so pretty easy to move when they are determined. Nothing inside the topper at all to aid him. He’s about 20 yrs old and about 6 inch shell end to end. Gorilla brand duct tape fixed his ass from escaping, just watched him try again lol.
