Question:	Does it test for SOD1 in degenerative myelopathy
Answer:	I went over my dog’s report and reviewed the many genetic factors that are tested. DM is listed as being tested for but there is no mention of SOD1 in the description. If it is found present there would almost surely be a more detailed explanation of the results.

Answer:	I purchased the kit on Black Friday 2019 sale. It took 16 days from mailing to receive all test results. I was expecting longer than the estimated 3-4 weeks due to the presumably increased sales during the holidays. Here is my timeline: Mailed the sample on 12/5. Delivered to Embark 12/10. Sample sent to lab on 12/17. Received health results on 12/20. Received breed, traits, and relatives on 12/21.
Question:	Has anyone compared results to wisdom panel? i am having a tough time trusting our wp results since they seem way off
Answer:	Yes I have! We have 2 rescue dogs, and We 100% definitively know the ancestry of one of our rescues but not the other. Our older rescue, Lily, is a Doberman-Lab (maternal doberman, paternal lab-retriever). Our other rescue is a mixed bag of cuteness--all we know for sure if she has some husky and some border collie. That being said, I wanted to compare Wisdom Panel and Embark, and since we knew what one of our furbabies is a doberman-lab, we thought she would be a great control for this experiment! I ordered Wisdom panel first (bc of its great reviews and more appealing price) and I was completely appalled and disappointed at the results for our doberman-lab. Her results came back as Alaskan Malamute + Poodle. I actually called to see if they mixed up her results with someone else's but customer service told me that it was impossible to do so lol! I loved Embark's results, and they actually tested her pretty accurately--It came back as Doberman-Lab Retreiver-Rottie (Rottie being minimal). I love the health results, they are so much more detailed compared to Wisdom Panel results and its worth the extra cost. As for our other mixed rescue dog, Wisdom Panel came back with a mix of 8 breeds and 20% 'undefined'. I was pretty disappointed with that and our results for her Embark test are pending.I did post to the Embark facebook group, as other ppl have, and many people have done a similar experiment between the 2 companies. It seems to be overwhelmingly pro-Embark, but I can understand that the price may be a turnoff. In my opinion, the price is worth it for embark, especially if you have health concerns.

I don't think this answer will help you now since it has been about 11 weeks since your original question and I'm not sure if the saliva DNA is still good after that long, But hopefully this may help someone else who has the same question about their deceased dog. On the DNAmydog.com website they now have a DNA test for deceased dogs for $157. They need anything that the dog chewed on or had oral contact with. chew toys, (unwashed) blankets they chewed on, toothbrush, etc.. Answer:	I submitted the sample on 4.29 and received the results 5.19. My puppy was a rescue, and on our first visit to the vet she guessed he was 8 weeks old and an Akita /Australian Shepherd mix. The Mars test confirmed that he was a first generation cross of those two breeds, so kudos to my vet! (Boo to the sociopath that left my perfect and gorgeous puppy in a dumpster.)

Answer:	In the case of blood, the first positive column means there is a small trace of non-hemolized blood in the urine. The following positive columns show a further increase in hemolized blood. The second column is moderate, and the third column is large amounts. In the other parameters, the columns show a progression from low to high levels (those in the left most columns are low, getting higher towards the right). If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to let us know!
Question:	Why does it have 6.0 and 7.0 negative for pH, when every site I've seen has 6.5 - 7 is healthy
Answer:	The little test reader just has you match up the colors, so I am not sure on the actually pH readings but I have used the test strips several different times and every time it has shown something was off she has had an infection so I have to say it seems pretty accurate.

Question:	Do the results give countries or just continents? I would like one that gives specific countries
Answer:	Just a general response to all the older responses to questions. All of the DNA companies are constantly changing their DNA results. The more people that have the test, that more data goes into improving the accuracy and/or improves the ability to be more specific. Therefore, just wanted to say, as time goes on, the older responses may no longer be valid.
Question:	Do you get both maternal and paternal lines with this test
Answer:	Not distinct, separate lines, no. But you do get those results, just mixed up. AncestryDNA tests only autosomal chromosomes; that is, non-sex chromosomes. These are the 22 chromosomes everyone has regardless of gender. That means your results will show both your parents' ancestry, even if you're female, but it'll be combined - you won't be able to tell which parent provided which country or DNA result. For maternal- and paternal-specific ancestry (mtDNA and YDNA, respectively), 23andme provides this testing. AncestryDNA stopped doing it in 2014 (see https://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2014/06/12/comments-on-y-dna-and-mtdna-tests/). I recommend doing both AncestryDNA and 23andme for a more comprehensive picture of your background. And if you're female, ask a male relative (father, brother, paternal uncle) to do 23andme so you can extrapolate your paternal YDNA and haplogroup, since females do not carry the Y sex chromosome. Again, this is not available via AncestryDNA.If you are only interested in overall, general, "big-picture" results, and aren't concerned with specifics like which part of the world your maternal/paternal line came from per se, or your haplogroups, then AncestryDNA is the way to go.
Question:	Are these results on a par with 23andme? Are they identical or is there more info or less
Answer:	Depends on what you’re using it for. I took Ancestry and my sister to 23andme. We were looking to confirm our relatives not our ethnicity. We had way more matches and have been able to find common ancestors with other DNA matches. 23 and me is harder to sort through the matches and I’m not sure If you can even see other people’s family trees as i haven’t figured it out in almost a year
Question:	How many past generations does this test go back? Will it test going back a few hundred years
Answer:	That depends on your ancestry and the number of people of similar ancestry who have tested. Biggest group is European heritage. I have 6th and 7th generation matches going back to colonial New England because there was a good degree of pedigree collapse (genetic reinforcement due to small populations intermarrying) The majority of matches will be in the 4th cousin range. However, matches are pointless unless you have a decent family tree (at least 4 generations) and respond to messages because you will not be able to make the connections otherwise.

Can my pet have this test even though they are not showing any visible symptoms?

Of Course! The beauty of our testing process is that it will register food items whether or not your pet has ever consumed the food item or not. That way you will know what items you should or should not feed your pet. Even if you have previously fed your pet an item, such as pork, and it shows up on the test, it does not necessarily mean that your pet will show a visible symptom. Most of the time the symptoms do not manifest unless you are feeding your pet that food item every single day. In addition, some symptoms are not always visible such as joint pain or a tummy ache. If you continue feeding your pet a food item every day, the symptom may continue until it manifests itself into a visible symptom. If you are already doing what you were intended to do with your pet's nutrition plan, then that might explain why your pet does not express any visible symptoms. We have had instances where pet parents have removed the offending items even though their pet was not showing any visible symptoms. After several weeks, they noticed that their pet showed signs of increased activity and energy. We have seen this happen with people too.

How long does it take to see improvement for your pet once you eliminate level 3 and/or level 2 food items?

Our testing is designed to help you become more in tune with your body. After eliminating the level 3 and level 2 items for 6-8 weeks, you can re-introduce one item at a time into your diet. If you eat it and wait a few days, and do not have any symptoms, then your body may have re-balanced and you will be able to continue to eat the item again in moderation. Some of our customers choose to retest every 6 months or so, but this is not entirely necessary if you have become more in tune with your body and can identify what foods may be causing the symptoms you experience.

Is it correct that something can show up as an intolerance because the pet has been consuming the item often?

If your pet has a food intolerance, it means that your pet is lacking the digestive enzyme to break that particular food down. So the reaction is not life threatening and may take hours or days after eating the food to manifest any type of symptom. Unlike a true allergy, where only a trace amount can trigger a reaction, with an intolerance symptom, it may manifest only if they eat a substantial amount of the food. So it is not the act of consuming the item often that creates the intolerance. The intolerance is always there, it is really the manifestation of the symptoms that becomes more apparent with over consumption. That is why it is always recommended to feed in rotation and moderation after the initial elimination period to avoid triggering any unwanted symptoms.

Dietary & Lifestyle Adjustments

The first steps in conducting an elimination plan is to utilize the master list that is emailed to you with the results. You would cross off your registered level 3 and level 2 food items on the master list. The remaining items would be the items you would want to eat for 6-8 weeks. After eliminating these level 3 and level 2 intolerances out of your diet for 6-8 weeks, you can add back one offending food item at a time. Wait up to 48 hours to see if you experience any noticeable symptoms. The body may have been able to heal and re-balance itself from this intolerance, and you will be able to eat the food item again without any issues, but only in moderation. If you notice a symptom after eating this offending food item, keep in mind that you can eat this food again, but you may still experience an undesirable symptom.

Question:	Why does this brand lump british & irish together? (i noticed ancestry dna lists them separately). the genes are significantly different. thanks
Answer:	It will if you have a significant difference, if that is the case, it will drill down to say Irish. For instance, my husband (who is from Ireland) was 99% British and Irish, and then drilled down to 99% Irish. I was 88% from Spain and Portugal (I'm from Portugal) and then drilled down to 88% Portugal. I never mentioned to them I was from Portugal so the fact that they determined that I was Portuguese and not Spanish or a mixture was a surprise. Now, if you only have a small percentage they may not be able to distinguish between the two groups. Hope this helped!

Answer:	There is access to your raw data, however if you recently took the test and have results under the V5 chip, you will not be able to upload to many third party sites at this time as this raw data is not yet supportrd
Question:	In regards to finding out my Native American roots, will this provide ancestral records to tribal affiliation
Answer:	Not only will it not provide tribal affiliation, there is a notable rate of false negatives for Native American ancestry in DNA testing right now (both 23andme and other companies). Meaning these results might say you have zero Native ancestry even when you do have some. People who have their family tree well documented and live on reservations have had this happen, due to the comparison samples the companies use to test against.

Answer:	We tried for our child August 4th. Tested August 25th with this test. Recieved a positive. Period was not to start until September 5th as I have a 38-40 day cycle.

Answer:	Also for future readers of this question: It's generally recommended that you wait 3-7 days before testing again. But ONLY if you got a negative result using your first urine of the day. For most pregnancies, hCG levels double every 2-3 days. So you're better off waiting a few days, then testing with your very first urine of the day. If you got a negative result using urine that was not held in your bladder for several hours, repeat the test the next morning. Try leaving the test/cup on the toilet lid or on the counter next to the toilet the night before. It's easy to forget when you're all groggy. And, as A B said, some women will have undetectable levels of hCG for the first several weeks. If you get multiple negative results -using first urine of the day- with at least three days between testing, make an appointment with an OBGYN. The blood test is a little more sensitive and, depending on how many periods you've missed/how long you believe you've been pregnant, they may do an ultrasound, even if the tests are still negative. This is probably common sense but, start your preferred "pregnancy" lifestyle (increase your dietary folate intake, stop drinking, etc) right away, even if you're getting negative results.
