2 best large breed dogs

Large breed dogs have specific nutritional needs, including their diet, which is often addressed through dry dog food and other pet supplies. Here's some information about large breed dogs and their dietary requirements:

  1. Nutritional Needs: Large breed dogs, such as Great Danes, Labrador Retrievers, and Saint Bernards, have unique nutritional needs compared to smaller breeds. They require a balanced diet that supports their growth, joint health, and overall well-being.

  2. Protein: Protein is essential for muscle development and maintenance in large breed dogs. High-quality animal protein sources like chicken, beef, and fish are commonly found in dry dog food for large breeds.

  3. Fat: Large breed dogs also need an appropriate amount of fat for energy and to maintain a healthy coat and skin. Look for dry dog food formulas with moderate fat content.

  4. Calories: It's important to monitor calorie intake to prevent excessive weight gain, which can put stress on a large breed dog's joints. Specialized large breed dog food often includes controlled calorie levels.

  5. Joint Health: Large breed dogs are prone to joint problems like hip dysplasia and arthritis. Dry dog food designed for large breeds typically contains glucosamine and chondroitin to support joint health.

  6. Calcium and Phosphorus: Maintaining the right balance of calcium and phosphorus is crucial for large breed puppies' bone development. Excess calcium can lead to skeletal issues, so choose puppy food formulated for large breeds.

  7. DHA: Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is beneficial for brain and eye development in puppies. Some large breed puppy food includes DHA for these reasons.

  8. Feeding Frequency: Large breed puppies should be fed smaller, frequent meals to reduce the risk of bloat, a condition more common in larger breeds.

  9. Weight Management: As large breed dogs are susceptible to obesity, monitoring their weight and adjusting their food intake as needed is vital. Special weight management formulas are available.

  10. Consult Your Vet: Every dog is unique, and their nutritional needs may vary. It's essential to consult with a veterinarian who can recommend the best dry dog food and feeding plan for your specific large breed dog.

  11. Hydration: Adequate water intake is crucial for all dogs, including large breeds. Ensure your pet has access to clean, fresh water at all times.

  12. Pet Supplies: Along with food, consider other pet supplies like elevated food bowls to promote healthy digestion, large and durable toys, and a comfortable bed that can accommodate their size.

Remember that the specific dietary requirements of large breed dogs can vary depending on their age, activity level, and health status. It's essential to choose a high-quality dry dog food that is formulated to meet the needs of large breed dogs and consult with your veterinarian for personalized recommendations.

User questions & answers

Question: how much glucosamine does this have
Answer: I am a customer not a distributor. My dog loves Proplan Sport Performance 30/20 All Live Stages Formula
Question: How much is recommended to feed a 65 lb dog according to the chart? It isn't shown on Amazon that I can tell
Answer: Probably not, but maybe. I have a 3year old sheltie-BC mix and if I'm not careful she can easily gain weight on this food. She runs with me about 6 miles a week on top of playing fetch daily for an hour or 2 and chasing/wrestling the cat in between all that. This is definitely for high activity dogs, not just hyper but actually highly active. Lots of running or agility or other physical activities. That said, for given weights I found less of this food is required to keep my dog healthy. This is a great food if you have a dog that doesn't eat enough or needs to pack on a few pounds, in my opinion. My dog put on 5lbs in 6months on this food during the summer when I ran with her a little less than normal (38lbs to 43lbs, so pretty significant given we weren't trying to gain weight).
Question: where can my scheduled shipments be found on amazon
Answer: Thank you for your question. Per our feeding guidelines for the Pro Plan Pro Plan Sport Active 26/16 Formula Dry Dog Food, an adult dog weighing 80lbs should be fed 3-1/3 - 4 cups. You can view our full feeding guidelines chart at our website here: https://www.purina.com/pro-plan/dogs/dry-dog-food/sport-active-26-16-high-protein We hope this helps. - The Pro Plan Team
