3 best tick spray
Tick spray, in the context of pet care, is a type of product designed to help protect dogs and other pets from ticks and often fleas as well. These sprays are a part of flea and tick control measures used to prevent infestations and reduce the risk of tick-borne diseases. Here's what you should know about tick sprays:
Purpose: Tick sprays are formulated to repel ticks and fleas that may attach themselves to your dog's fur or skin. They provide a proactive approach to preventing these parasites from infesting your pet.
Active Ingredients: Tick sprays typically contain active ingredients that deter ticks and fleas. Common active ingredients in tick sprays may include pyrethroids, permethrin, or natural ingredients like essential oils (e.g., cedarwood oil, citronella).
Application: Tick sprays are applied directly to your dog's coat. You usually spray or mist the product over your pet's fur, ensuring that it covers the entire body, paying attention to areas where ticks and fleas are more likely to hide, such as around the neck, ears, and under the tail.
Protection Duration: The duration of protection can vary between different tick sprays. Some products provide protection for a few days, while others offer longer-lasting coverage. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for reapplication.
Safe for Dogs: Tick sprays are formulated to be safe for dogs when used as directed. However, it's crucial to read the product label carefully and follow the recommended dosage and application instructions. Some products may not be suitable for puppies, pregnant or nursing dogs, or dogs with specific health conditions.
Efficacy: The effectiveness of tick sprays can vary depending on the product and the specific type of ticks and fleas in your area. Some sprays may repel ticks and fleas, while others may kill them upon contact.
Complementary Measures: Tick sprays are often used in conjunction with other preventive measures, such as flea and tick collars, oral medications, and regular grooming to check for ticks and fleas.
Tick-Borne Diseases: Ticks can transmit various diseases to dogs, including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Using tick sprays can help reduce the risk of your dog contracting these illnesses.
Consultation with a Veterinarian: It's a good practice to consult with your veterinarian before using any tick spray, especially if your dog has underlying health issues or if you have concerns about potential interactions with other medications.
Environmental Considerations: Some tick sprays may have environmental implications, so it's essential to dispose of empty containers properly and avoid spraying in areas where it can harm beneficial insects or contaminate water sources.
When choosing a tick spray for your dog, consider factors such as your pet's age, size, and health status, as well as the tick and flea prevalence in your area. Additionally, consult with your veterinarian for personalized recommendations on tick and flea control for your specific pet.

For use on clothing, tents, sleeping bags, and other outdoor gear, Sawyer Permethrin repels or kills disease-spreading ticks (Lyme disease), mosquitoes (West Nile and Zika viruses) and more than 55 other kinds of insects. Perfect for camping, backpacking, hunting, travel, backyard BBQs, picnics, and more, Permethrin insect and tick repellent adds an odorless layer of protection to shirts, jackets, pants, socks, shoes, sleeping bags, tents, netting, and other outdoor, camping, hunting, and travel gear. A University of Rhode Island study (2017) found that people wearing permethrin-treated shoes and socks were 73.6 times less likely to have a tick bite than those wearing untreated footwear. Using it on outdoor gear also helps reduce the mosquito population in your camp and prevents ticks from attaching to you. Permethrin spray bonds to fabric fibers for up to 6 weeks (42 days) of exposure to sun and air or 6 washings. Specially formulated not to stain or damage your clothing, other fabrics, gear, and equipment, it's odorless after drying and is as effective as 100% DEET. To apply, spray Permethrin directly onto clothing and gear with a slow sweeping motion, keeping the bottle about 6 to 8 inches away, and treating each side of the garment for about 30 seconds. The EPA recommends using 4.5 ounces of Permethrin to spray each outfit (consisting of shirt, pants, and socks). Maximize protection by pairing with Sawyer Picaridin topical repellent for the skin. Since 1984, Sawyer has used technological advancements to create products that keep you outdoors — from the backcountry to the backyard — including insect repellents for both skin and clothing, water filters for camping and emergencies, and sun protection.
- Add a layer of protection to your clothing and gear with Permethrin insect and tick repellent spray — perfect for use on shirts, jackets, pants, socks, shoes, boots, sleeping bags, tents, netting, when outdoors, camping, hunting, or on travel
- Ideal for backpacking, backyard BBQs, and other outdoor activities, it's effective against more than 55 kinds of insects — from disease-spreading ticks (Lyme disease) and mosquitoes (West Nile and Zika viruses) to chiggers, spiders, mites, and more

- Reduce likelihood of a tick bite by 73.6 times by treating shoes and socks with Permethrin (University of Rhode Island study - 2017)
- 24-ounce trigger spray bottle treats five complete outfits (updated EPA dosage is 4.5 ounces per outfit consisting of shirt, pants, and socks); maximize protection by pairing with Sawyer Picaridin topical repellent for the skin
User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this on my dog safley |
Answer: | The Scotts Wizz Handheld Spreader is designed to spread granular products. Unless the product to be spread is highly powdered or sticky it should spread fine. Several kinds of products are sold under the Preen label. I do not know which product you are interested in using, so I am speculating. The Preen Lawn care products should spread fine because they are designed for use with broadcast spreaders. The Garden Products are generally applied by hand using the sprinkle container, but both the Garden and the Organic Garden products are granular so they should both work unless they have gotten moist. One word of caution though, the recommended applications rates may need to be converted to dial setting by experiment. |
Question: | Does the 24oz bottle permethrin come with a sprayer |
Answer: | does not work well with sand like granules that r heavier than most. clogs gears and wears batteries down fast |
Question: | I thought this thing is odorless. However, I just bought it and the bag it came in has strong odor. Is it possible |
Answer: | The problem with NiMH rechargeables is that they are at most 1.2V each. Alkalines are 1.5V each, so trying to use NiMH will only give the device 5V (1.2V x 4) instead of 6V (1.5V x 4). Some devices won't operate at 5V, thinking that the alkalines batteries (really NiMH) are dead. There are several lithium AA batteries available on Amazon that should directly work. They are the type that have micro-usb charge ports on the side of them, and present regulated 1.5V (like alkaline) at their terminals, rather than the typical 3.2-3.6V of unmodified lithium cells. They have a decent capacity, and should easily last a spreading session on an average yard. I use these extensively in devices that take AA alkalines, with excellent results. They are pricey, but save money and waste in the long run. You probably already own the necessary charging infrastructure (a micro-usb cable and a wall-wart usb charger). You can also try to use two 3.2V lithium unmodified rechargeables along with two AA "dummy" cells. This will give 6.4V to the spreader instead of 6.0V from alkalines. I've used this method successfully in a trail camera that takes 8 AA batteries. I use four 3.2V rechargeable lithiums and four dummy AA cells. You will need to buy a charger for these, though. Amazon sells four packs of these batteries, bundled with a cheap charger. |
Question: | Is it safe to spray on skin |
Answer: | Unfortunately no the rock salt is just too heavy and large for it even at the 9 max opening setting and with fresh batteries it struggles and stops clogs up, maybe if you can find a finer ground rock salt possibly but the little motor seems underpowered it is not heavy duty, ended up using it as a big scoop and shaking it to spread the rock salt. It can handle lightweight things like grass seed very well and other small pellet fertilizers like milorganite. Don't think it would be good for any powders only small pellets. I'd skip this and look into buying a walk behind/push broadcast spreader for spreading rock salt. |

Insect Repellent Treatment for Clothing, Gear, and Tents
For use on clothing, tents, sleeping bags, and other outdoor gear, Sawyer Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent not only repels insects, it actually kills mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, mites, and more than 55 other kinds of insects on contact. Odorless after drying, Permethrin will not stain or damage clothing, fabrics, plastics, finished surfaces, or any of your gear.
Use Permethrin on clothing by itself or with skin-applied repellents to create the ultimate protective, armor-like insect barrier.
Frequently Asked Questions
Permethrin is applied to clothing and outdoor gear material, bonding to the fabric fibers for up to 6 weeks or through 6 washings (whichever comes first). When a tick, mosquito, or other insect comes into contact with Permethrin, it absorbs a dose that will either repel or kill the insect. Applied to clothing, tents, outdoor furniture, or sleeping bags, Permethrin is very effective at reducing the mosquito population in your camping area and keeping ticks from attaching to you.
Sawyer Permethrin uses the same active ingredient found in hair shampoos for head lice. However, because your skin breaks down Permethrin within fifteen minutes of contact, it's not useful as a personal protection insect repellent when applied to the skin.
Permethrin-treated clothing and fabric should be your first line of defense, and it can be used in conjunction with a topical skin-based repellent such as Sawyer's Picaridin, MAXI DEET, and Ultra 30 products.
What Can I Treat with Permethrin?
In addition to clothing and accessories like hats and waders, Sawyer Permethrin Insect Repellent is ideal for treating backpacks, tents, camp furniture, hammocks, mosquito netting, luggage, and even bed sheets. Since mosquitoes are better hoppers than flyers, adding more Permethrin-treated landing surfaces around you will improve your protection.
Permethrin is compatible for use even on fragile fabrics such as silk, plus all synthetics and waterproof membrane fabrics (won't affect plastics or finishes). While Permethrin is safe and compatible with almost all fabrics, it has an easier time bonding to soft fabrics like cottons, wools, and synthetic blends.

HOW DO YOU USE IT?
FOR TREATMENT OF ACTIVE PROBLEMS. Treats up to 5,000 square feet. Apply this powerful spray twice within 2-10 days to your outdoor areas (like the lawn and patio) to ensure you’re eliminating whatever pests are present and full pest life cycle. Start at your home and spray top to bottom. Continue onto the lawn, working your way back to the fence line. Walk at a steady pace and use a sweeping motion, slightly overlapping treated areas. Complete coverage is important, especially in shaded areas. Once control is established, the less frequently you’ll need to apply. To ensure you’re fully treating your pest problem, we recommend using in conjunction with the Flea & Tick Control for Pets + Home spray. Pro Tip: For ants, soak mounds and repeat as needed to establish control below ground.
FOR PREVENTION AND MAINTENANCE. Prevents up to 5,000 square feet. For ongoing control, apply as needed. Higher concentrations and year-round use may enhance results.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
THE POWER OF CEDAR OIL. Cedar oil affects octopamine, which is essential to life for pheromone-driven pests (like fleas and ticks) as it is responsible for regulating heart rate and movement in insect pests. Cedar oil blocks the octopamine neurotransmitter receptors in pests, causing pests to be repelled from the area. When contacted, pests suffocate and die. Mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and beneficial, sight-driven insects are not affected by cedar oil because they do not have octopamine neurotransmitters.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN READY-TO-USE AND CONCENTRATE. The Ready-to-Use spray is quick and easy, hooking up directly to a garden hose and is already diluted as the water comes out. The Do-it-Yourself Concentrate is more cost-effective. It must be properly diluted and requires a separate applicator.
INGREDIENTS: Active: 12.63% Cedarwood Oil, 2.73% Sesame Oil, 1.09% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Inert: 83.54% (Water, Glyceryl Monooctanoate, Soap, Glyceryl Monodecanoate).Total: 100.0%.

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello. Does this kill flea eggs too or juts adults |
Answer: | Yes! this product DOES kill flea eggs also! Now, I will say in my experience, you may need to apply this product to the animal as well as floor, furniture, and bedding a second time in order to be sure the eggs are really treated and to catch any "sneaky" ones that may slip by. It is really very effective and economical. |
Question: | what does it contain |
Answer: | the flea and tick home spray is a great smelling spray that is safe to use.it can even be sprayed directly on your pet!! it contains only peppermint oil, clove extract and sodium lauryl sulfate.i had a bad experience spraying other chemical flea preparations, and found this which is safe and a more natural mixture.i really like it and have had good results. |
Question: | ticks |
Answer: | YES!!!!. When I was new to this tick infested area I had more than 10 attached to me (slow learner). The dog also had many but since he was on tick control the ticks died. I knew that he had to have brought live ticks to my bed......I sprayed the "dirty" spread and left the product on for 24 hours. After that I sprayed myself and the dog every time we went out. NEVER since the spraying did he have any nor did I any ticks attached and there was no tick infestation in the house (I was concerned about that). The only product I used was Vet's best. |
Question: | can this be used on cats |
Answer: | It clearly says it’s for home and DOGS. It even states after what age the dogs should be sprayed. It does not state it can be used on cats. They do have a cat version of the spray. |
