Maybe medium dogs, depending on size of bowls, you can look into a larger mat if necessary. *To preface, my dogs eat dry food* My suggestion is that you can use this under a raised bowl holder for food and water. I'm assuming adding water will prevent ants from crawling through it, but with spilt food in the water will then make soggy food leading to another mess to clean. These are good to keep my dogs from moving their bowls, but little messes of water still spills when they drink, with the food a few pieces do get out. Best bet, is to try and figure out a non toxic mix of ant killer, as I know it can be hard to get rid of ants. To see if you can kill them off for a few months then reapply every season or however often you see them. This may not be the best answer, but I dont think these will completely prevent ants from getting to your dog bowls.

Question:	can it be used for people
Answer:	I don't own this bed, but my dog is a digger/nester too. I've found that if I put a loose blanket in whatever bed she's using, she will dig and arrange the blanket rather than tear up the bed. This has been THE solution for me with her digging and nesting in her beds. She likes the cozy fleece ones. So I wonder if you got your dog this bed and also put a loose little blanket with it, like a cheap 50x60 throw, that might keep any tearing from happening, and those who own it say it's not looped fabric to get nails caught in.
Question:	Is it machine washable
Answer:	Have it on the floor. Soft but not firm. Also have one in solid plastic crate and it works very nice. Very pleased with them.
Question:	How does this work
Answer:	There is a different material on the bottom to help keep the bed in place. It is not as plush as I wanted it to be.
Question:	Will it slip on the floor
Answer:	Do the non skid dots come off in the washer? I have bought several kennel bedding and the darn dots come off. I wash on delicate cycle and cold water.

Question:	Does this mat absorb water
Answer:	I have a large mat for my dog and have washed it in my washing machine with no problem (you might want to use a gentle cycle). But I laid it flat to dry as I didn’t want to subject it to high heat.

Question:	Will this mat slide on the hardwood floor
Answer:	Yes, it is not super thick like an actual dog bed but much thicker than the fake sheepskin crate pads I've seen. I shared on another response that is reminds me of a foam bath mat.
Question:	Does water leak through to the floor
Answer:	The one I ordered was the 24 inch. It was not 1 1/2 inches thick - barely 1/4 inch of padding so it was more like a dog blanket than a pad.
