Answer:	It's charcoal from the filter because it's brand new. Every new filter will have a small amount of charcoal particles that are tiny enough to fit through the fiber outer covering of the filter. They will disappear after the fountain is used and emptied a couple of times. They also some to the bottom of the bowl because they are denser than water, but they aren't dangerous if ingested. Infact, activated charcoal in much larger quantities is what is given orally to pets and people if a toxic substance or poison is ingested. It bonds with certain toxins and poisons so that they are not absorbed by the body and pass safely in the stool.
Question:	How difficult is this to clean? Anyone had mold build-up issues
Answer:	I returned it because it was too difficult to clean. I knew that there would a lot of cleaning maintenance to keep it mold-free, and I was prepared for that. However, you can only unplug this at the outlet. There's no disconnect at the bowl itself. And cord for the pump comes up through the bowl, so you need to bring the cord with the bowl to the sink. So, to clean it, we had to un-snake the electrical cord from behind the coffee maker, the toaster and the cutting boards and then re-snake the electrical cord after cleaning. If you have an outlet near your sink (or less clutter in your kitchen), this probably wouldn't be such an issue, but for us the inability to easily bring it to the sink was deal-breaker.

Answer:	According to the box, it said the fountain is made from "FDA Food Grade" plastic, and yes, BPA free. Hope that helps. It's a quiet fountain and has a pretty big capacity. Runs better than several we have tried. On the downside, the spout being right in the center means some of my not-so-bright rescue kitties will lap from the bowl while water flows on to their heads!! Would have been better if the spout was to one side.

First thank you for being wonderful and unusually caring person for rescuing or adopting an adult cat 1) if “Jom” is joining other animals (even dogs) in the house, it’s possible he’s trying to spread his scent around to assert his presence there and feel safe in his new surroundings. 2) please please please make sure you get him checked by a trustworthy vet to be sure there isn’t an underlying medical condition and who can also help guide you in overcoming any potential behavioral issues. 3) introducing a cat to a new household means a lot of confusion (and if an adult, upset) for a cat. If there’s been a lot of instability or uncertainty in his life prior to you it will take time to feel safe and trust you. It’s a long-term investment but I can tell you from personal experience that in time it will come. We rescued a cat that had incredible instability and unreliable people in his life and it took 3 years of consistent efforts but I remember the day he finally had come to fully trust me and it was SO REWARDING knowing I had given him that safe forever home with people he trust to love him. That said, You may need to contain a smaller room for him where he has his own litter box, and feels safe. We kept our adult rescue in our back room for the first month so he could get settled, feel safe and knew where everything was (food, litter box, water) and didn’t need to fend off other animals for his basic needs. We also spent A LOT of time with him and allowed our current pets to smell him from the other side of the door. Take the Pump apart

Remove the blue faceplate by using your finger to pull on the small tab on the side.

Remove the Stator

Remove the blue teardrop shaped stator by pulling up on the small lip.

Answer:	Yes very easy to clean. I have hard water which leaves line deposits along the water line. They cleaned off much easier on this ceramic fountain than on the stainless steel fountain I have.

Answer:	yep the whole thing is ceramic. Apart from pump of course but you can't see that as it sits under the middle part. Its very pretty sadly my cat didn't use it once.

Answer:	I usually fill to 3/4" from the top. The pump seems to like this and I also don't have to fill as often (since some water is lost to evaporation over time). Cats generally prefer to drink from moving water, and my cat always drinks from the water bubbling from the top. It's worth trying with your cat - see what he/she likes.

Answer:	No, it does not automatically shut off. The manual actually advises that if the water level gets too low you can burn the pump out. I have two cats drinking from it so top off each day. When I take a trip I leave a big sign for the house setter to remind to top off each day.
