| Answer: | I just have to comment on this topic since I have 5 dogs now. I HIGHLY believe it is definitely necessary to filter your dogs water if you truly want your pet to stay healthy. I have spoken to several vets and Health Department officials over the 30-35 years that I've had dogs (mainly) and a few cats that very, very few town or cities have water that will pass the Health Department Guidelines. I happen to know that the town I grew up in has NEVER passed the Departments guidelines since 1970. I have had 6 of my animals die due to either kidney or liver disease caused by bacteria from tap water. Lord knows, we get sick from it. I had a whole-house filtration system put in after seeing what the water in the various towns has done to water filters after just a week of use. I've not just gotten this information from the Department of Health or just the multiple veterinarian hospitals I've used over 30+ years but, from human hospitals I've dealt with as well. Just think of your pet as if he or she were a human child. We sure take precautions to keep them from getting sick. Pet's can't tell you when most things go wrong until it's possibly too late. |

About installation methods
The waterer works by detaching the bottle part from the base. Then you have to screw off the spring mechanism and fill the bottle with water. Rescrew on the spring lid. It shouldn't spill or release water until you turn it over click it back onto the base, fitting the spring part into the designated spot on the base.
