Answer:	The cord has to come out of the front opening. A hole could be drilled to accommodate the plug size but that would have to be filled or it would let in the cold air. My cats are on their second pad, the first failed after 5+ years. This current one is on a temperature controlled thermostat so it is not warm when the temp is over 40 degrees, works great.
