Answer:	The Heated K&H Outdoor Kitty House would be the more sturdy of the two and provide sufficient heat. It has an excellent thick heating pad you put inside which is very cushionyyy. I took off the plastic on both sides since the movement of the plastic seemed to scare the feral cats away. Heating pad is warm for them and works with the heat of their own bodies. Keep this out of the rain and wind. Garage would be perfect if for a feral cat, otherwise place it where it wont get wet and battered by wind and where dogs cant get to the cats. I bought this for our feral cat we have had since a kitten when her mother put her up on our wall and left her there. We took her in and kept her in our garage and she has always remained very warm, and that was 2 years ago. She roams the neighborhood but always comes back at night for food and her house.

Answer:	I have two of these houses plus a home made one in the front of my house under my eaves...Unfortunately, I don't have an outdoor plug nearby so I bought a heavy duty outdoor extension plug with a three plug coupler and plugged the three in, ran the extension cord under the eaves of my house up off the ground and into my garage...plug connections are covered to avoid getting wet and this is the third year I've used them without incident

Answer:	This is very late, I realize since the question was asked 4 years + ago, but I just have to add - if you have senior cats and it gets cold where you live? Please bring them inside. *Before anyone yells at me, I do know that some kitties refuse to come in a house. I have cared for feral cats and cats that are fully socialized with humans & I know they each have a unique personality complete with "quirks" - in which case this house could be awesome! We always just have a box with a towel and sometimes a heating pad with a timer for the ones who won't come in. But if at all possible,bring those kitties in :)

Answer:	I have 3 k&h heated cat houses of which I’ve run for almost 6 mos a year, for 3 yrs now. I am an electrician. As long as it is plugged in it is using power. The power these use are so minimal, they’re not much different than running 4-5 LED lights. No extra money at all. I am retired, now. I’d be screaming at the cats, “quit going in & out those doors, you little punks.”

Question:	how does this house stand up to wind,rain,snow? any suggestions what to do
Answer:	I don't know. We have coyotes around but they typically come out at night and I don't know if the decoy impacts their behavior. I do know it is also used by hunters, when they place a scent on the back foot, to attract them. Overall, however, it has not been an issue for us. Geese and deer tend to stay away.

Answer:	Not sure about getting your money back, but I bought this in January and it has kept the geese away. I used to have close to 100 a day and now not even 1. So real it even scared my neighbors away! I'm a believer!

Answer:	I use this only to scare raptors...however, we have both wild and domestic turkeys and they don't even look at it. I would probably use a human scarecrow of sorts instead.

Question:	Does the wall/roof insulate the heat well
Answer:	The shelter has a flexible inner insulating layer, between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick, covered with fabric. The only openings are the door, which comes with a removable plastic cover the cat can push in/out for access, and a small hole in the rear for the warming pad electrical cord to exit. The rear half of the pad has a water-proof warmer; the front half doesn't. The pad produces mild warmth when powered, but nothing like a home heating pad. So I feel comfortable that it protects the outdoor cat that adopted us against wind, blowing rain, and mild winter temperatures. We live in Texas, and our shelter is on a bench on a covered porch. So our winters are mild and the location is somewhat sheltered. If I lived in the northern US with long, frigid winters, or the shelter were more exposed to the elements, I'd definitely want something with more protection and a warmer heat source.
Question:	How long is the cord
Answer:	The cord on the heating pad extends approximately 69 inches from the heating pad. Another couple of inches is probably lost in getting it out of the cat shelter which would give it an effective length of about five and a half feet (5' 6")
Question:	Does the heating pad work 24/7 or only when the weight is detected
Answer:	According to the manufactures website, it is 24/7. It takes about an hour to 2 to heat up to 102 deg and stays there. There is a heated side and a non-heated side.
Question:	Is this house water proof
Answer:	I would not consider this shelter as being waterproof. I believe the fabric itself may shed water but the zipper would probably admit water. I'm quite sure the bottom would admit standing water along the zippered seams. We used this shelter in a semi-protected space (small porch) and enclosed all but the opening with a black plastic bag. Not esthetic but effective. We have found homes for three of the lovely kittens born in it 55 days ago and Mom is scheduled to be spayed on July 1st.

Answer:	It heats up whether or not there’s a pet on it... the timer (which we never used anyway, fwiw) is to turn the pad off when it gets warmer in the day or if you don’t want the heat on when you’re not home. Answer:	The mat is fairly thin, don't have exact measurements. Unless your door doesn't have any clearance at all, it should be just fine. And it does trap the litter very well.

Answer:	I wouldn't use the washing machine. I wash it off in the shower/bathtub with a disinfectant rinsing very well and stand it up to air dry. Or weather permitting, wash it off outside, use a disinfectant and rinse well, stand it up to drain and air dry.

Testing K&H Heated Pads and Beds

You'll notice that the K&H Small Animal Heated Pad inside your Birchwood Thermo-Kitty Home may not feel warm to the touch when your pet is not on the pad. That is normal. You can test the pad by placing a large pillow on top of the pad. After about 20 minutes, feel under the pillow. It will feel warm, not hot.

Testing Note: Do not use an extension cord during this test. Do not place anything on the pad (other than the fleece cover provided) any other time. This should only be done during testing.

Answer:	I put the plush pad on the bottom and the heating pad half on the mat and half going up the wall. This gives your cat more of a choice of how much heat he wants. My cat sits on the mat and leans his back against the wall and seems totally cozy!

Answer:	Mine had a faint odor and my husband who is an electrical engineer says this is common with plastic in items. The outer edge dries first and when the inside starts to dry it emits a gas. It should fade away soon if you have any smell. It is safe and I am thrilled with my purcase. The inside pillow has no odor at all. I purchased the tan heated pod.

Answer:	I just put the connecting halves together and zipped it right up. It was pretty easy.

Answer:	Mine is about 21" in diameter at the widest point, and about ten and three quarter inches tall. The opening is 9 inches wide and 8 inches tall.

Answer:	Yes it does, well, it has a zipper that you can adjust, if you look at the picture, the black ring around the pod is a zipper. I actually turned my pod into a heated one and it works GREAT! I highly recommend the pod and the heating element. All my cats love sleeping in there.

My cat is an outdoor, very large, older female that just showed up in my woods one day last summer. I put the house outside on the porch and she started using it right away. The heated, soft floor pad fits all the way to the corners in the house which would give the kittens extra space. Of course, if your cat has a large litter it might be a little crowded once they start growing. From what I can remember about cats with kittens, they prefer small, secluded spaces for safety. So, it might be okay. I hope this helps you.

Layout Your Structure:

Layout your main panel structure, black side up. Lay the black roof panel top down so that the zipper teeth face up. Take note of the zippers that attach the roof panels to the main panel structure.

Use the hook & loop strips on the door flaps to make any alignment adjustments you need to.

Using the zippers, attach your roof panels to the oblong sides of the main panel structure. Do this before raising the front and back panels.
