13 best bird food evers

Bird food evers, also known as bird feeders or bird feeding stations, are essential items for bird enthusiasts and pet owners who want to attract and feed wild birds in their yards or gardens. These devices are designed to provide food for birds, ensuring they have a steady source of nutrition while offering bird watchers the opportunity to observe various species up close. Here are some key points about bird food evers:

  1. Types of Bird Food Evers: There are various types of bird feeders, each designed to accommodate different types of bird food and serve specific purposes. Common types include platform feeders, hopper feeders, tube feeders, suet feeders, and nectar feeders for hummingbirds.

  2. Bird Food Options: Bird food evers can dispense a variety of bird foods, such as seeds (e.g., sunflower seeds, nyjer seeds, safflower seeds), suet cakes, mealworms, and nectar for hummingbirds.

  3. Bird Species: Different bird food evers attract different bird species. For example, tube feeders with sunflower seeds may attract finches, while hummingbird feeders attract hummingbirds. Suet feeders are popular for attracting woodpeckers and other insect-eating birds.

  4. Location and Placement: Proper placement of bird food evers is crucial. They should be positioned where birds can easily access them while providing safety from predators. Placing feeders near trees or shrubs can offer birds shelter.

  5. Maintenance: Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to keep bird food evers clean and safe for the birds. Dirty feeders can spread diseases among bird populations. Cleaning should be done using mild soap and water.

  6. Seasonal Considerations: Bird feeding is a year-round activity, but the types of birds you attract may vary by season. Some bird species migrate and may only visit feeders during specific times of the year.

  7. Attracting Birds: Providing a variety of food options and a reliable source of clean water can help attract a diverse range of bird species to your yard.

  8. Benefits: Bird food evers not only benefit the birds but also offer enjoyment for bird watchers.Observing and providing food for birds can be a rewarding and educational hobby.

  9. Local Regulations: In some areas, there may be regulations or recommendations about feeding wild birds, especially if it attracts pests or poses health risks to birds. It's important to be aware of and comply with local guidelines.

  10. Sustainability: When choosing bird food, consider sustainable options. Look for bird food produced in ways that minimize environmental impact and avoid using pesticides or chemicals.

Bird food evers are a delightful way to connect with nature, support local bird populations, and enhance your outdoor environment. By providing appropriate food and maintaining your bird feeders, you can create a welcoming space for birds to visit and thrive.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this 100% black oil sunflower seed? I noticed that the description fails to mention this while the description of the previous model does
Answer: It can be hung or mounted.
Question: What is the expiration of this bird feed? Will it keep to Christmas
Answer: Yes they could. They like black oil sunflower seeds. Another feeder type you could look into is a suet feeder. Woodpeckers love suet cakes!
Question: How can a 20 lb bag (description) have an 18 lb shipping weight (details
Answer: Bent does not sound like how mine is, an oval as pictured in the product description. And it is just like my first one of these feeders.
Question: Why does Wagner's 25-pound bag cost $25 and this 40-pound bag cost
Answer: As of September 2018, the feeders Amazon sends have a redesigned base. The bottom is no longer just cast metal. It is now plastic and cast metal. Also, if you use the threaded part of the bottom, to attach to a pole or for a tray, it is now just a single thread, not threaded several turns. It does not hold well. I do not like the redesigned base at all.

User questions & answers

Question: I'm trying to switch 2 seed addicted rescue budgies over to a healthy diet. Is this a good place to start? I don't know how old they are
Answer: I'm not sure about budgies but I know my conure was an incredibly easy switch, and he too was very adament about his seed when I got him. He's still a very picky eater and generally won't take anything else I offer aside from the ocassional piece of hard pasta. That being said, he switched over the the Harrison feed pretty much as soon as I offered it to him, which was astounding. I think your best bet is to buy a 1 lb. bag of the high potency (since Harrison's recommends using that first when converting) and mix it in with their seed, gradually increasing the ratio of pellet to seed until its pretty much all pellet. After the 1 lb bag is done, then you can get a larger bag of the adult lifetime. Hopefully they take to it easily, if not, just be patient and keep offering it, slowly replacing the seed with it. Good luck!
Question: I have 2 Pineapple concure age 4 to 5 month and Indian ringneck age 13 year which to recommend it and I prefer get one of all them
Answer: Try the Harrison's fine. The course may be a bit large for your birds. Hope this helps.
Question: I would like to see a photo of the actual pellets to determine if your idea of 'fine' and my idea of 'fine' match?? Thank you
Answer: They're about 1/8th of an inch in size. A picture won't help much without something familiar enough for scale...
Question: What are the ingredients, please
Answer: *Corn, *Hull-less Barley, *Hulled Gray Millet, *Toasted Soybeans, *Peas, *Lentils, *Peanut Kernels, *Sunflower Kernels, *Toasted Oat Groats, *Alfalfa, *Brown Rice, *Chia, Calcium Carbonate, Bentonite, Mixed Tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), Sea Kelp, Salt *Algae Meal, Vitamin/Mineral Supplement (Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Zinc Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Carbonate and *Sunflower Oil)*CERTIFIED ORGANIC INGREDIENTGuaranteed Analysis: Crude protein (min.) 14%, crude fat (min.) 6%, crude fiber (max.) 4.5%, moisture (max.) 10%.

User questions & answers

Question: i cant give the harrison adult life time o i need to star with the high potency first
Answer: I started with the high potency because my parrot had some nutritional deficiencies, but you don't have to. Introduce it without any other food for short periods of time to see if the bird eats it. It may take time for the bird to accept it.
Question: I have finches and diamond doves, which is better..fine or course
Answer: For Finches, you probably want SUPER Fine -- and you might want to get 1lb bags - remember, you need to use up a bag in 4-6 weeks once you open it, so if all you are feeding is two small birds, a 5lb bag may be too much.
Question: Is this DEFINITELY the 5lb bag bag? The picture shows a 1lb bag
Answer: Yes,it is. The price has gone up since the last time I purchased it. Keep in the frig helps keep it fresh. I put about 1lb in a container and keep the rest in the frig.
Question: What pellet size is appropriate for Alexandrine parakeet - fine or coarse? Please advise
Answer: If memory serves me correctly they are about physically the size of my Quaker. This is the one I use for my Quaker. I think it would be great for the Alexandrine. In fact I sometimes feed it to my Galah Cockatoo when run out of her size pellet. She doesn't seem to mind. In fact I don't think she wastes as much.

User questions & answers

Question: We have our two cockatiels on the fine, but we’re getting a irn. would we use the coarse or the fine? i’m confused on the sizing
Answer: Indian Ringneck? They can and typically will eat Fine or Coarse. We would suggest the first eight months on High Potency but it is your choice if you are already feeding Adult Lifetime Fine to also offer this to the ringneck...
Question: does it help with feather plucking
Answer: My bird plucked his feather's because he had Borna Virus. After a year in treatment he stopped for the most part, unless he gets highly stressed. We switched him from Zupreem to Harrison's High Potency and it is much better for him. We treated him for a year with a liquid Celebrex course of medication. We also added 24 hour heat in his cage to help him recover. When birds are in a stressful environment like lots of noise, children, dogs barking, too much light, maybe tv's are too loud, video games, not enough time outside the cage (minimum 45 minutes a day) , not enough interaction (minimum 3 hours a day) , not enough toys (need lots of stimulation from chewing, claw toys, bells, wood blocks, etc. ) , maybe there is to much quick movement in the room, large boxes, sticks on the bottom of the cage ( look like snakes) . It really could be any one of several factors.
Question: Is this 5lb or 3? The listing has both sizes listed.. 5 lb as title and in picture but only 3 lb listed as the option
Answer: Back when I bought it I bought 5 LBS. I have never bought it again (it's been at least 8 months) as my particular parrot didn't really like it., so I don't know how they are selling it now.
Question: Does Harrison have any pellets without peanuts of corn. My parrots can't eat them
Answer: I would look at the Adult Lifetime Mash formula by Harrison's Bird Food, there is no peanuts or corn in this formulation...here is the ingredient: *Ground Hulled Grey Millet, *Ground Toasted Buckwheat Groats, *Ground Soy Flakes, *Ground Hulled Sesame Seeds, *Chia Seed, *Spirulina, Calcium Carbonate, *Ground Sun-Dried Alfalfa, Montmorillonite Clay, *Ground Dried Sea Kelp, Di-Calcium Phosphate, Vitamin E Supplement, Sea Salt, Ground Whole Anise, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, D-alpha tocopheryl acetate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Niacin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, d-Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Carbonate.

User questions & answers

Question: The description is written for a havahart trap but Im looking to buy bird food what are you actually selling
Answer: I purchased the parrot food but you might want to contact Amazon directly and ask why there is a mix up on the product description
Question: Is this the new mix from Higgins or is this the original netherlands seed
Answer: This is the netherlands seed, I have been using it for some time and I mix it with intune pellets, throw in some fresh fruit and veggies and my birds thrive.
Question: Do the companies spray anything on the bird seed so moths don't hatch
Answer: No, anything they could spray on it, would be damaging to your babies. If you don't want moths to hatch, split the bag up into freezer ziplock bags and freeze it for at least 2 days. That will kill any larvae or eggs before they get a chance to hatch.
Question: Would this be a good mix for a green cheek conure and is there artificial coloring in it
Answer: Hello, I think this mix might be to big for your conure. We have a cockatoo and she loves it. There are no artificial ingredients and has a great mix of seeds and fruits and nuts. If they have a mix for conures then I would advise you to get that mix. But the Vita Seed is the best.

User questions & answers

Question: Why has this price increased so dramatically
Answer: There were more sunflower seeds then red Milo in my bags. I have no idea what percentage of each seed is in the mix. My birds love this stuff! the doves love the sunflower seeds and the finches, orioles and other birds like this mix.
Question: How do i cancel this order
Answer: YES! it has sunflower seed, cracked corn and peanut pieces in addition to TEN other kinds of seed. I use squirrel proof feeders for the birds and seperate feeders for the squirrels with sunflower and peanuts and peanut butter. (which the birds eat too ) ALL of the birds here in central Virginia LOVE this blend and there is no waste.
Question: We are using this for a class project. i checked the ingredient list, but wanted to make sure... this is nut free, correct
Answer: I just called Wagner customer service (516-933-6580) and asked whether the Greatest Variety product contains any artificial dyes. The rep said No, that their products do not have artificial dyes. She said that the red is the natural color of that particular seed. The red color is helpful in attracting birds.Update: Well, I received the birdfood and looked at the ingredients. The last ingredient item is "Artificial color."
Question: Does this seed cause crazy grass growth where the seed falls
Answer: I've never deliberatly planted these seeds, this product is for feeding wild birds and is a very good mix. that said, birds and squirrels being who they are, some seed does get scattered on the ground and does sprout, I've had a few sunflowers come up and bloom, but most is just grassy stuff, I don't think you can plan on a crop

User questions & answers

Question: Anyone know diff. between "indigo bunting" and the "blue finch
Answer: The blue finch is only found in Brazil.
Question: is nyger seed low-waste? Like, will the shells or remnants leave a mess
Answer: It does leave waste but it is not as much as with other seeds, like sunflower shells. If you have your feeder on a solid ground or with woodchips, you will notice some mess. If you have it in the grass or in a garden with dirt, you will hardly notice anything.
Question: how long is the seed good to put out
Answer: To be honest our goldfinches have been consuming these seeds at such a high rate, that the issue of how long they are good for has never been a concern. We have used the entire bag in less than a month
Question: I know that this seed can go bad if not used within a certain amount of time. Can it be frozen to keep it's freshness
Answer: Actually, the local Wild Birds store recommends freezing nyger seed to keep it fresh. I've done this for years with no problems. The most important thing with nyger is to keep it fresh. In my experience the birds refuse stale food, which never happens after it's been frozen.

Answer: I think it would so well. Probably the largest cage you could find for the price.. I have 2 Australian diamond doves in one along with 3 Zebra finches.
Question: generally how long does it take for birds to grow after you plant the seeds
Answer: It does....very handy :)

Should I feed the birds year-round?

Yes, birds need food year-round, so it is best to keep bird feeders full all year. Birds have a high metabolism and need to continually eat. Birds nest from late winter through late summer and during these months there is not an abundance of natural foods, so they need additional food for breeding and raising their young.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this bird seed sprout under the feeders
Answer: I haven't used that seed since 2017. There is always a chance for seeds to sprout if there are no birds or squirrel to clean it up on the ground. Sometimes this also can happen if the birds don't like all the seed.
Question: what are all seeds included
Answer: I really couldn’t tell you all the seeds . The main reason I purchase this seed was because it had black sun flower seed.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you store this outdoors? During a NY winter especially
Answer: I live in southern New York and I store Wagner's Greatest Variety Blend in a metal garbage can with secure lid outdoors all winter long, and the seed is just fine. I tried the heavy duty plastic/rubber (?) garbage container but the raccoons and other critters eventually managed to chew through it.
Question: Went to purchase again I paid $7.98, why is the price at $17.98 now for 10 pound bag
Answer: I paid $6.84 for this, last week. Its close to $11 this week.
Question: I have the concern regard the pink artificial colour that in the content, is it safe for feeding birds
Answer: I question the necessity of dye in the bird seed too and am not sure of it's safety but we are getting large flocks of all kinds of small birds that are feeding on it heavily. It seems more popular with the birds than another brand that I've put out.
Question: I paid $6.84 for this, last week. It's close to $11 this week. Why
Answer: I have been buying this bird seed for several months now getting a shipment every 2-3 weeks and always have paid around $11. I did notice about a week or two ago the price was almost $17 and I refused to buy it then. Waited to the price dropped again before purchasing.
